'Love Island: All Stars'' Olivia Says She and Marcel Have 'Mutually' Decided to 'Stay Friends': 'We Speak Every Day' (Exclusive)

Yahoo05-02-2025
Olivia Hawkins is setting the record straight on her relationship status following her exit from the Love Island: All Stars villa.
The 29-year-old was dumped from the South African villa on Jan. 22, as she and Marcel Somerville were voted the least compatible couple by the public. In the days since leaving together, Olivia tells PEOPLE she and Marcel, 39, have "decided to mutually agree to stay friends."
"We did really get on in the villa," she says, but they simply "didn't have enough time together in there before we got thrown out into the limelight."

They're still in touch, though, as she says "it'd be a shame to not keep in contact." She adds: "We still speak every day, but I think we've just agreed that it's more of a friendship."
Olivia, a season 9 alum, and Marcel, who was on season 3, were only in the villa for nine days before they were dumped, and they didn't start their journey together. Olivia was coupled up with Luca (season 8) and Marcel was reunited with his ex Gabby (season 3) on day one, as a result of a public vote, and they didn't start exploring their connection until a few days into the season.
"I feel like potentially we could have developed something being in there," she says of here connection with the Blazin' Squad alum.
"It's just harder coming out after having so little time because then you have people's opinions and our lives become so busy. It's trying to find time to see each other. But yeah, I guess we'll never know."

Olivia admits she was surprised when she and Marcel were voted least compatible out of the villa — and against Nas (season 6) and Catherine (season 10) and Elma (season 5) and Ronnie (season 11) — considering she thinks that, "at that point in time in the villa, if anyone had voted for the top two most compatible couples, it would've been me and Marcel and Ekin-Su and Curtis."
"So that's why the Islanders were all so shocked [by our dumping]," she says. "It was a shame, but I feel like all the chaos and the drama happened as soon as we left, so I'm kind of glad I avoided that this time."
Deciding to go back into the villa in the first place was an "easy decision," she says. "The timing was right for me. I was in talks to do it the previous year and I'd only been out of the villa for a year, so it was too fresh for me. And I was also supposed to do [Love Island] Games [last year], but for me, it was just a lot in the space of the year. I needed that time out."
As she transitions back into normal life, Olivia still feels like there's a camera following her at times and forgets she can "speak freely."
"I've just been trying to kind of get back into a routine, which is hard when you come back because obviously you're just flung out back into the public [eye]."
She's also been catching up on the season. "Since we've left, it's gone wild," she says of how the season is developing. "It's so strange. I can't even imagine myself in there right now. I've detached myself. I look at them as characters again — it's very bizarre."

Here's What Mariah Carey Really Thinks About the Billboard Charts

Mariah Carey just shared how she honestly feels about Billboard's charts. In a game of 'Over/Under' with Pitchfork posted Thursday (Aug. 14), Mimi talked about whether she thinks the song and album charts — many of which she's dominated at different points throughout her career — are over- or underrated. 'Well, they matter to me a lot,' she began. More from Billboard Was Mariah Carey's 2005 the Greatest Comeback Year for a Pop Star This Century? Mariah Carey Announces Release Date for 16th Studio Album, 'Here For It All' Mariah Carey Just Learned Katy Perry Went to Space Months Ago & Has the Perfect Response 'So, I'm going to say they're underrated, because not everybody is in that world,' Carey continued. 'Sometimes the songs are, like, literally underrated, because people don't know them, and they're album cuts. And then sometimes it's like [Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper] 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' — not sometimes, one time.' Carey is a record holder for most No. 1 hits on the Hot 100 as a solo artist with 19, just one less than The Beatles' record 20. She's also the only artist to have a No. 1 on the chart in 20 distinct years, and in 2019, she became the first artist to have had a Hot 100 No. 1 in four different decades. And of course, Carey annually ascends to the top of Billboard's holiday charts with evergreen hit 'All I Want for Christmas Is You,' which has collected 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 since its release in 1994. When asked about her mind-boggling chart successes last year in an interview with Billboard, Carey said that it was 'astonishing.' 'To have 19 No. 1 singles and be one away from The Beatles … I don't know how I can't acknowledge that,' she added at the time. 'One away from The Beatles … that's a lot. I think it's a little hard to wrap my head around.' Elsewhere in the Pitchfork video, Carey shared her thoughts on everything from Love Island — in her words: 'Ugh' — to Labubus, which she said are 'so cute.' As for another decades-old music industry institution, the Songbird Supreme stated, 'I think the Grammys are overrated … But we love everybody.' Brooklyn Nets' Michael Porter Jr. dishes on what he's looking for in a future wife

Brooklyn Nets' Michael Porter Jr. dishes on what he's looking for in a future wife originally appeared on The Sporting News Michael Porter Jr. knows what he wants in a woman, and it's not just good looks. The Brooklyn Nets star is hoping to find a domestic wife that brings "something to the table." Appearing on the Tuesday, August 12 episode of the "One Night with Steiny" podcast, Porter opened up about his ideal type of girl and why substance matters more than clout or glamour. "My only thing with a girl is, you gotta bring something to the table. "I don't mind providing for you, I don't mind doing that," the 27-year-old NBA player said. "You can stay at the crib, you can do your thing. You gotta bring something to the table." A woman's value can come in many forms. But having skills in the kitchen is one thing the NBA star finds attractive. "These girls nowadays, it's like they just want to live like queens and do absolutely nothing." -Michael Porter Jr. "You gotta help me mentally, you gotta be able to cook or something... otherwise what value are you bringing to my life," Porter explained. "These girls nowadays it's like they just want to live like queens and do absolutely nothing." Ambition matters to MPJ While Porter doesn't expect a woman to be chasing a major career, he does expect his leading lady to have ambition in other parts of her life if she's going to be a match for him. "You don't have to have ambition as a woman in terms of like you want to further your career, but you gotta have ambition in some way like you like to get up and workout you like to build something in your life," he said. He says that's one of the big differences he's noticed between women and those he's met in larger cities since joining the NBA. Raised in a large household with a stay-at-home mother who homeschooled him, Porter says he'd be fine if his future wife chose the same path, as long as she's not completely idle. "In a wifey, I don't mind if she's a stay-at-home mom," he said. "My mom was a stay-at-home mom, but she raised all eight of us kids. She homeschooled us, she cooked for us when my dad was out working. She raised us." MORE: Michael Porter Jr. takes aim at Nuggets in first comments since Nets trade Michael Porter Jr. says he could never do a show reality dating show Don't expect to see Porter handing out roses on the "Bachelor" or looking for a date on "Love Island." The NBA star says reality dating shows aren't for him, and the world would "hate" him if he ever appeared on one of them. "It just wouldn't be a good sight," he said. "Those people on those shows they don't necessarily actually like each other." The Denver Nuggets traded the Missouri standout to the Nets earlier this summer. He played his first six seasons with the Nuggets, winning an NBA title during the 2022-2023 season. The "Love Island USA" Season 7 reunion was filmed on Tuesday, Aug. 12, in New York City, growing the anticipation for fans who are excited to see what their favorite islanders have been up to since the show wrapped. The special episode will be released later this month. Here's the latest on the upcoming reunion. When is the 'Love Island USA' reunion? The "Love Island USA" Season 7 reunion is scheduled for Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. ET on Peacock. It's hosted by Ariana Madix, who will be joined by reality television host Andy Cohen. More news: The 'Love Island' drama, allegations and when a friend group implodes Which contestants are going to the reunion? Days ahead of the reunion, there was online speculation that certain former islanders would not be in attendance. However, in an Instagram story shared on Aug. 12 around 9:45 p.m., Cohen teased that "everybody" was there. 'Guys, 'Love Island' reunions are no joke," he stated. "This reunion? It's good and everybody's here. I'm having so much fun with Ariana. She's amazing, and you know what...I like hosting a reunion with her. It's really fun." Multiple videos on social media show glimpses of couples, Ace and Chelley, Nic and Olandria, Taylor and Clarke, and Iris and Pepe entering the building. TMZ also captured other Season 7 contestants, including Charlie, Jeremiah, and Austin. During Bravo's late-night program "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" on Aug. 13, the television host said that the extended version of the controversial heart rate challenge will be shown at the reunion. Will Cierra attend the reunion? Last month, Cierra announced that she would not be attending the reunion. "At this point in time, I will not be at the reunion," she said in a nearly 10-minute TikTok video posted on July 27. "So I feel lighter knowing that my perspective, my thoughts, my feelings and my emotions is out there." The 25-year-old left the villa during the July 6 episode after past social media posts resurfaced showing her using a racist slur against people of Asian descent. On the show, her exit was attributed to a "personal" situation. She later apologized and confirmed that her exit stemmed from posts "where I was very naively using an incredibly offensive and derogatory term," she said in a social media video. "I had no idea that the word held as much pain, as much harm, and came with the history that it did, or I never would have used it," she said at the time.
