Marvel requests to be removed from Blake Lively's legal battle

Perth Now30-04-2025

Marvel has asked to be removed from Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's legal battle.
The 'It Ends with Us' co-stars are currently locked in a bitter legal dispute with each other - but Marvel has requested to be removed from the case, over the Nicepool character that features in 'Deadpool and Wolverine', the Ryan Reynolds-led superhero movie.
Marvel Entertainment recently submitted a letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman in the Southern District of New York, urging the court to "quash the subpoena issued to Marvel from" Baldoni's Wayfarer Parties.
The entertainment company has also requested the court to "issue a protective order prohibiting the disclosure of Marvel's confidential documents by any party or other non-party in this action".
In the court documents - which have been obtained by People - Marvel added: "Alternatively, Marvel requests that the Court stay the return date of the Subpoena and related document requests until after the Court decides the pending motion to dismiss of Counterclaim Defendant Ryan Reynolds."
Baldoni, 41, has claimed that the Nicepool character was used to "bully" him.
And in response to the recent court request, Baldoni's legal team have opposed Marvel's "motion to quash the Wayfarer Parties' Subpoena and for a protective order".
Baldoni's lawyers said: "On April 2, 2025, Marvel sent the Wayfarer Parties a letter containing its objections to the Subpoena, which are the same objections set forth in its recent letter-motion.
"On April 7, 2025, my office met and conferred with Marvel's counsel via telephone about the objections, and although we attempted in good faith to address Marvel's purported concerns about confidentiality and relevancy, Marvel's counsel interrupted us, refusing to engage in that discussion.
"Instead, Marvel's counsel interjected and stated he merely wanted to know what documents the Wayfarer Parties 'really' needed, regardless of the Subpoena's demand for all documents concerning: (a) the creation, development, modification or portrayal of Ryan Reynolds' 'Nicepool' character from Deadpool and Wolverine; and (b) Justin Baldoni."
Nicepool was portrayed by Ryan - Blake's husband - in 'Deadpool and Wolverine', the 2024 superhero movie.
In the film, Nicepool describes himself as a "feminist" and describes Ladypool - a character played by Blake - as "gorgeous".

‘Loki and Daredevil would have a fun match-up!' Tom Hiddleston eyes Marvel collab with Charlie Cox

Tom Hiddleston wants to work with Charlie Cox in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The 44-year-old actor has portrayed Loki since 2011's Thor and is set to return as the God of Mischief in Avengers: Doomsday, and Hiddleston has now revealed he wants to join forces with the Daredevil: Born Again star, 42, in a future MCU project. When Buzzfeed Celeb asked Hiddleston which Marvel actor he'd most like to collaborate with in the superhero franchise, he said: 'I've worked with a lot of them now, and that's been a great joy. It's hard to pick one, because they're all such extraordinary actors. 'I'd like to work with Daredevil. Charlie Cox is a dear friend of mine. I think Loki and Daredevil would have a fun match-up. 'Charlie and I were in a play together on Broadway on Halloween, and I dressed up as Daredevil and he dressed up as Loki. It was really fun!' As well as Hiddleston's Loki, Avengers: Doomsday will see the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. The 2026 blockbuster will introduce former Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. as Marvel's new big bad, Doctor Doom. While Avengers: Doomsday will include swathes of fan-favourite characters, Cox previously insisted he wouldn't appear in the film. During Marvel's livestream for Avengers: Doomsday in March, the studio revealed returning cast members by showing chairs with their names on the back, though Cox's name did not appear. Following Cox's absence from the announcement livestream, he told Screen Rant: 'It's not there, is it? 'Listen, the way that information gets to us is the same way that it gets to everyone else normally. At least historically, that's been the case. 'Someone sent me the link. I looked for my name. It's not there. So, maybe one day.' Before the livestream, it had been theorised that the Devil of Hell's Kitchen would be included in Avengers: Doomsday, with speculation growing around Christmas last year when Cox was spotted working out at DFRNT Health and Fitness in Western Australia. The gym owners had posted an image of Cox and his wife Sam in the health club with the caption: 'Charlie is currently training for his role in the upcoming Avengers movie', though the actor later revealed he had been training for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again - not for the blockbuster. The actor called his bosses to insist he didn't tell anyone he would be suiting up as Daredevil in Avengers: Doomsday, and admitted he felt 'terrible' when the speculation began. Cox told Entertainment Weekly: 'I was there for Christmas with my family. And on the last day, they asked if they could take a picture with me, which we did. 'I had said to them, 'I'm getting ready to play Daredevil', because I am! I'm getting ready to play Daredevil in season two of Daredevil: Born Again. 'Sometimes people who aren't really in the [entertainment] world, they don't understand the terminology or whatever, but for some reason they posted that and they put, 'Getting ready for his role in the Avengers', which is not true. 'I felt terrible. I had to call my bosses and say, 'I didn't say that,' obviously. Why would I say that? Why would I make something like that up?'

Diddy trial stunned by shock appearance of Kanye West

Kanye West made a surprise appearance at Sean 'Diddy' Combs' sex-trafficking trial Friday morning, entering the courtroom with one of Combs' sons. When West - who goes by Ye Ye - came to the courthouse around 11.10am, screams could be heard from bystanders, who shouted questions at him and recorded with their phones. West - wearing all white denim pants and jacket and black sunglasses - was asked, 'Are you here to support Combs?' 'Yes,' the fellow rapper responded. He did not respond to questions about whether he's been following the trial, which has been running for five weeks. He was met by Combs' son Christian 'King' Combs, who walked with the rapper inside. Once West was cleared through the courthouse security, he got in an elevator and went to the 23rd floor to watch the trial on a television screen inside a less-used secondary overflow room. Two overflow courtrooms have been available throughout trial so the public can still view the trial in case the main courtroom reaches capacity. The main courtroom, however, was not full Friday. West briefly observed inside the room, before other reporters caught wind of his surprise visit, apparently prompting him to leave. West spent about 40 minutes total inside the courthouse before leaving with Combs' son and someone who appeared to be security. West's wife, Bianca Censori, was not in attendance or seen at the courthouse. West didn't answer questions as he got into a black car and drove away. A day earlier, one of Diddy's alleged victims, former gal pal 'Jane,' gave shocking testimony about an unnamed, world-famous rap 'icon' whom she said was into a 'similar' sex-crazed, 'freak-off' lifestyle as the Bad Boy Records founder. West didn't respond to reporters' questions about whether he was the 'iconic' rapper described on Thursday. One of Sean 'Diddy' Combs' alleged victims and his one-time gal pal 'Jane' testified that she attended a January 2024 Las Vegas party hosted by a famous rapper who was throwing a birthday party for his girlfriend. Jane said she was flown on the rapper's private plane to Sin City, where a group of attendees went to a play, then to a birthday dinner, before going to a strip club and capping the night off with an afterparty in a hotel room. Jane said at the afterparty she saw an escort named Antoine having sex with a woman as the rapper, his girlfriend and others watched. Jane said she and Diddy had hired Antoine several times to join in 'freak-offs' with them. And when she saw Antoine at the party, he told her he travelled around with the mystery rapper and his girlfriend. Jane also said she recommended to the rapper another escort she and Combs hired because, similar to the 'I'll Be Missing You' rhymer, the mystery rapper was into a 'similar' sex-crazed 'lifestyle.' Jane said Combs was upset with her when he found out she went to the rapper's party and subsequent 'freak-off'. Diddy, 55, is accused of using his fame, fortune and many businesses to run a decade-long scheme in which he controlled and manipulated his longtime girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, 38, and others including Jane using violence and threats, forcing them into 'freak-off' sex marathons that went on for days. The rapper has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He faces life in prison if convicted.

Jeremy Renner reveals the one thing that got him through horror snowplough accident

Jeremy Renner felt as if he was "on fire and electrocuted and melting" all at once after his snowplough accident. The 54-year-old actor broke 38 bones in his body and sustained a collapsed lung and lacerated liver after being crushed by his snowcat in January 2023 and was so "confused" in the moment but now that he has recounted his journey to recovery in a new book, insisted that he had nothing to do but "breath" his way through the pain. Speaking on UK TV show The One Show, he said: "What is the alternative in that situation when your nerve-endings are on fire, and electrocuted and melting, and drowning, all of it all at once, it was confusing. "The only thing I wasn't doing was breathing, pain is just pain, essentially, so I had to breathe otherwise I would pass out, my organs would fail and I'd die. "That's why the book is the My Next Breath, it's the fight to exhale, then inhale, not realising that the ribcage is collapsed and the lung was punctured. My eyeball came out, when you can see your eye with your other eye, it's like 'Okay...'" The Marvel star is the oldest of seven siblings, and recalled that attending antenatal classes with his mother when she was pregnant was what gave him the power to know just how important breath control was in that moment. He said: "Not a lot of 12-year-old boys get that opportunity, but, ironically, it was probably the thing that gave me the confidence to understand the power that you're mitigating pain with breath. "And believing in that, knowing that, seeing it first hand with my mom in labour. Feeding her ice chips to get her to breathe right and all these things. "That was essentially what I had to do. I had to breathe to stay alive, but it also helped mitigate my pain. It took so much energy to focus on the breath that I didn't have to worry about my eye or my twisted-up legs or that the bones were broken. I wasn't even focusing on or feeling that, I had to breathe. "If you can't breathe, you're drowning, right? It doesn't take very much time to drown so when you're there for 45 minutes, you're really trying to figure out your next breath and that's all that mattered. "I don't even call it an accident because it wasn't, it was an incident."
