YNWA as KL Kopites bring Anfield buzz to M'sia to celebrate Liverpool's title triumph
DATARAN 3 Two (3 Two Square) here was a sea of red today when more than 600 die-hard Liverpool supporters flooded the venue to celebrate the Reds' latest English Premier League title triumph.
The event, organised by KL Kopites, the official Liverpool supporters' club, also featured a double-decker bus fully wrapped in Liverpool colours.
Liverpool clinched their second EPL title in five years when Arne Slot, in his first season as manager of the Mighty Reds, guided his men to thrash Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield on April 27 to take an unassailable lead with four matches to spare.
It was Liverpool's second EPL title since winning it in the 2019/2020 COVID-19-hit season under charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp.
The latest triumph is all the more special as it also saw Liverpool equalling Manchester United's record of 20 top-flight English League titles.
KL Kopites president Sashidaran Nair said this is the first time they are organising a proper 'bus parade' ever held in Malaysia.
'The idea started back in 2020 when Liverpool won the league (under manager Jurgen Klopp). We had already booked the bus but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to postpone it.
'This year, we're not only celebrating, but also giving fans a real experience. Everyone can board the bus and take photos with a replica of the Premier League trophy on top of the bus,' he told Bernama during the event.
He said the KL Kopites also gave away more than 40 lucky draw prizes, including match tickets to Anfield and signed jerseys by former Liverpool players Harry Kewell and Lucas Leiva.
Meanwhile, Jordan Chan, 47, who has been a Liverpool supporter since the 1990s, said he was excited to participate in the 'bus parade'.
'As someone who has supported Liverpool for a long time, this kind of celebration really gives me a whole new experience,' he said.
Twenty-five-year-old Megat Amir Irham Ahmad Mahidin was just as thrilled to finally celebrate properly with other Liverpool fans after being unable to do so in 2020 due to the pandemic.
'I didn't get to celebrate our team's title triumph in the 2019-2020 season because of the pandemic and the lockdown. So, this time I want to celebrate non-stop with all the other Liverpool supporters who are here today,' he said.

Liverpool keeper Kelleher set to join Brentford
LONDON: Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is set to sign for Brentford in a deal that could rise to £18 million (US$24 million), according to reports on Sunday. Ipoh fans celebrate Liverpool win with open-top parade

ABOUT 100 supporters of Liverpool Football Club attended a private gathering in Ipoh, Perak, to celebrate the Merseysiders' 20th English Premier League title win. The event was organised by the club supporters' group Ipoh Kop End at the Five Thousand Years Restaurant during the live screening of the trophy lifting ceremony. Event organiser Peter Ho said those who attended watched the match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace before the title celebration. 'We also had a correct score competition and lucky draw. 'Some members won jerseys signed by former Liverpool player Luis Garcia, official merchandise and other prizes. 'We also sang songs on stage during the trophy lifting ceremony,' he said when contacted. Ho said as a supporter of Liverpool for over 33 years, the title triumph meant that the club was now the apex English football club. 'I believe it's just the beginning and there'll be more to come. 'We are planning to hold another gathering for the first match of next season at the restaurant in August, so I hope that more can join in,' he added. The open-top bus with supporters driving through Ipoh to celebrate Liverpool's 20th English Premier League title win. Veteran coach and lifelong supporter of Liverpool Datuk M. Karathu, who was the event's guest of honour, said he was happy to see so many fans gathered there. Earlier, about 40 members of the Liverpool supporters' group also took part in an open-top bus parade through the city centre. The bus set off from Ipoh Padang and made its way to Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, Ipoh Railway Station, Ipoh Old Town and Birch Memorial Clock Tower, before returning to Ipoh Padang. Parade co-organiser Edwin Seibel Nathan said participants had a wonderful time on board. 'It rained earlier, but it stopped as we boarded the bus, so the cool weather made it even more enjoyable,' he said. 'There were people waving as we passed by and cars honking as well. 'Some who couldn't join in the parade came to the field to send us off and welcome us back.' He said many participants took pictures with a replica trophy that he brought along. 'Many said they want to do this again if Liverpool wins another trophy,' he added.

Popovic wants win over ‘best team in Asia' in quest for World Cup berth
AUSTRALIA coach Tony Popovic is eyeing victory over Japan on Thursday to not only boost his side's World Cup qualification hopes but further improve the Socceroos' prospects of becoming the strongest team in the Asian confederation. The Australians face Hajime Moriyasu's much-changed squad in Perth knowing a win would take them to the verge of securing a ticket for next year's 48-team finals in North America as runners-up in Group C behind the already-qualified Japanese. 'A win is something that we're pushing towards,' said Popovic, who led his team to a 1-1 draw when the sides last met in October. 'We feel confident we can show an improved performance from what we did in Japan, albeit that was a very good one. 'We'll have to be at our best to beat the best team in Asia. That's where we want to get to and to be the best we have to beat the best and they clearly are.' The Japanese confirmed their ticket for the finals in March and, as a result, head coach Moriyasu has named a squad featuring eight uncapped players for the trip to Perth. While Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo and Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo have been included in the 27-player line, the Japanese are missing key players such as Kaoru Mitoma, Hidemasa Morita and Ayase Ueda. Australia go into the game in second place in the group, three points ahead of Saudi Arabia with two games remaining, although Popovic will be without goal-scoring midfielder Jackson Irvine, who is sidelined after foot surgery. 'It's not their best squad, I wonder what that will look like because when we played them in Japan they had their starting 11 all playing in Europe,' Popovic said.
