Chelsea boss lashes out at Club World Cup organisers after yet another weather delay
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca lashed out after a two-hour weather delay disrupted his team's last-16 Club World Cup victory over Benfica on Saturday, suggesting the United States was not a suitable country for the competition - a year before it is due to host the men's World Cup.
Chelsea beat Benfica 4-1 in extra-time to qualify for the quarter-finals after a game that ended four hours and 39 minutes after kicking off, following a two-hour interruption due to a storm warning.
It was the sixth time that a game was stopped at the 32-club tournament because of the risk of lightning.
"For me personally, it's not football," Maresca told a press conference. "I think it's a joke. It's not football.

"I can understand that for security reasons, you have to suspend the game. But if you suspend seven or eight games, that means that probably this is not the right place to do this competition.
"It's a fantastic competition. It's the Club World Cup, all the best clubs are here," he added.
"But six, seven games suspended? It's not normal. In a World Cup how many have they suspended? Probably zero. In a European (championship), how many games? Zero. There is some problem."
Fifa, which organised the tournament, was not immediately available for comment.
Chelsea were 1-0 up when the players were asked to leave the pitch and play only resumed almost two hours later.
"The game was very good for 85 minutes, then we stopped for two hours, and when we started it was a completely different game. It's not the same game because you break the tempo," Maresca said.

The Boks will now turn their attention to the first Test against Italy in Pretoria this coming weekend. There was good and bad news on the lock front for the Springboks following the season-opening match against the Barbarians in Cape Town on Saturday. The good news is the return to full fitness and form of Lood de Jager, who played a full 80 minutes in Cape Town in his first match back in the green and gold for two years. De Jager in fine form De Jager also missed out on the 2023 World Cup because of injuries and there were fears following the 2019 World Cup win in Japan that the tall lock's career might be on the line because of injury. But, De Jager was back to his best on Saturday, calling the lineouts, which worked a treat for the Boks, while his all-action performance, in the lineouts and loose, was excellent. De Jager made several tackles and carried regularly in a performance which delighted his coach Rassie Erasmus. 'The condition that he had was almost career ending, but when we did the fitness testing three weeks ago, he was exceptional,' said Erasmus of De Jager, who's been playing rugby in Japan for the last season. 'His body might be 32 or 33, but he has had some two or three years 'rest' in the last couple of years, and I think that showed. I also thought Jean Kleyn went deep into the game very well. We're very glad Lood came through it, and we have some nice depth at lock now.' Kleyn out Kleyn though picked up an undisclosed injury in the match and he has been ruled out of the upcoming Tests against Italy (two) and Georgia. 'We feel for Jean,' said Erasmus, 'but injuries are part of the game, and we are fortunate to have good depth at lock within the squad, so there is no need for us to replace him at this stage.' Kleyn will return to Irish club Munster to recover from the injury and undergo the necessary rehabilitation. Besides De Jager, the other locks in the squad are Eben Etzebeth, RG Snyman, Franco Mostert, Salmaan Moerat, Ruan Nortje, and Cobus Wiese, while Jean-Luc du Preez and Pieter-Steph du Toit are also comfortable playing in the second row. The Boks travel to Joburg on Sunday and get their preparations under way for the first Test against Italy, at Loftus this coming Saturday, on Monday. Erasmus will name his team for the first Italy Test on Tuesday.

Price is no stranger to the domestic and international hockey scene, having served previously as an assistant with the SA women's indoor team. Domestically, he boasts an exceptional coaching record with five SA Indoor IPT titles and one runner-up finish.

Javier Mascherano insists his Inter Miami side can shock European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup last 16 on Sunday, despite admitting they are levels below the French giants. Kick-off is at 18:00 (SA time). With Argentine great Lionel Messi leading the charge, Miami surprised in the group stage as they progressed but facing newly-crowned Champions League winners PSG in Atlanta is a 'huge challenge' in the coach's eyes. 'We will try to be up to the standard, we will try to do things in the best way we can, and why can't be dream of being able to shock them?' Mascherano told a news conference on Saturday. 'My message (to the players) is that this is not over yet, there is a game to be played. We know we are taking on an opponent of unique power, one of the best in the world, but this is football. 'Tomorrow, why not try to play the best game possible, a near-perfect game for us, and have the chance of competing and some chance of going through.'
