Clockenflap 2025 announces first lineup and early-bird tickets
The initial lineup includes Indonesian rap star Rich Brian, legendary Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand, British singer-songwriter Jacob Collier, indie folk singer Passenger, and former Portishead frontwoman Beth Gibbons. Artists from closer to home include Taiwanese star Yoga Lin, Hong Kong's own Panther Chan, Japanese indie pop group Chilli Beans, Thai indie singer Phum Viphurit, and more – as well as the return of local mythical post-punk legends, Bitter Tea of General Yeng, after 40 years away from the stage!
Early-bird tickets are on sale right now, available until the end of the day on May 23. Three-day passes are available at the early-bird price of $1,790, while single-day tickets can also be purchased at $1,150 each. Festivalgoers under 18 years old can also get tickets at a discounted price.

Susan Boyle sends message to Liam Gallagher after Oasis show
The Wonderwall hitmakers were performing in Edinburgh for three days, as part of their only Scottish shows on the Oasis Live '25 Tour. They performed in the capital on August 8, 9 and 12. In the picture, she donned an Oasis top as well as a bucket hat. It's been a pleasure seeing him return to stand up with a brilliant and very powerful show after a 10 year gap. Jenny Eclair kicked-off our 40 Years of Fringe: In Conversation series last week. It was great to have her back at Gilded Balloon and look back at her wonderful career highlights. Doon Mackichan and Kieran Hodgson of 'Two Doors Down' are doing three shows chatting about the TV series. Then Michelle McManus will interview new Scottish comics on the last weekend. Rosie O'Donnell also finished her sell out run on Sunday with a huge display of four large confetti canons set off in the venue to celebrate her debut show at the Fringe. I have to say that the staff were not too chuffed to have to clear up tons of confetti – but the show was definitely worth it. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad As a run ends, another begins and I'm overjoyed to be welcoming Doon Mackichan, Fiona Allen and Sally Phillips back together with Smack the Pony opening this Sunday 17th. All four shows sold out well in advance of the festival so I can't wait to see what they will get up to. I will try and persuade them to come back together for more shows in future. With funny women at the core of Gilded Balloon's programming each year, it's been a great joy to relaunch our Women in Comedy mixed-bill show from the 90s. Featuring all women and marginalised genders from across the festival, the show runs at 9pm Thursday to Sunday for the next two weekends and is a great way to see some legends of the scene as well as rising talent. A personal highlight for me this year has been the fabulous Gail Watson starring in the moving and hilarious show Faye's Red Lines. A star of Edinburgh's beloved panto, Gail has been charming audiences and has now been shortlisted for a Scottish Theatre Award on the Fringe, alongside some glowing reviews. I'm excited to see all of our new and ongoing shows continue to charm and amaze audiences this year. This includes the Heats for So You Think You're Funny? which started this week. This is our comedy competition for new and exciting comics from across the country, and I can't wait to see the top acts in our grand final next Thursday. It's always a great opportunity for Edinburgh locals to discover and support huge talents before they're household names, so I would absolutely encourage anyone looking for something different to come along to the Gilded Balloon. After 40 years in the business it's a pleasure to bring all these shows to the Fringe!

Sturgeon touts her book to a room full of fans
Now she says she is living through her adolescence, the most obvious illustration of which is a tattoo which now adorning her forearm. (Shock news – there may be a second sometime soon). During the intervening period she has lived her life largely in the public eye. Now, after announcing her imminent retiral from politics her memoir of eight and a half years in office as First Minister and as a politician of varying degrees since her late teens is published. Frankly is widely available but has been on sale in branches of Waterstones since Monday – apparently in breach of an earlier embargo. The audience at the sell out Edinburgh International Book Festival event in the McEwan Hall was clearly made up of Sturgeon fans, ranging from those who individually thanked her for her leadership during the pandemic to the warm applause at various things she said. Ms Sturgeon said that Alex Salmond was a 'strong charismatic individual' and the two of them together became 'an incredibly successful partnership. But Kirsty Wark who was conducting the interview issued the first of carefully barbed comments against Salmond who died suddenly almost a year ago, suggesting that Salmond would have been upset 'if you had delivered independence'. She also referred to his dual person saying he could be 'both charming as well as a bully', and said to Ms Sturgeon ' I think he undermined you a lot of the time.' Sturgeon rejected that notion replying that he 'also bolstered me a lot of the time. He was so integral to some of the happiest times of my life.' Wark also accused the former female First Minister of failing to achieve closure of the attainment gap as she had promised. Sturgeon admitted it is 'possibly one of my biggest regrets' but that her policies to introduce the Scottish Child Payment, funding for early years education and the Baby Box are lifting children out of poverty and will continue to have an effect in years to come. She also claimed the Scottish teaching profession is the highest paid in the UK and that child poverty is falling right now in Scotland in contrast to the rest of the UK. On gender recognition reform, her regret is that she did not pause the progress of legislation but claims that the debate is toxic on both sides. Nicola is now reconciled with Kezia Dugdale ('we are now good friends') after the 2017 leaders debate, but clearly has no friendly thoughts towards Joanna Cherry, KC, who has said she will reveal information about a conspiracy against Alex Salmond in her own memoir to be published next year. Ms Sturgeon said: 'There are certain people who spend a lot more time thinking about me than I do about them.' King Charles came in for a mention during the hour long talk and according to Sturgeon she feels that the monarchy 'should end soon'. And in a word directed to her SNP colleagues for whom she was a leader without parallel, winning eight elections in a row, she brushed off any thought that they were scared of her. She said: ' I wasn't as uncollegiate as my critics would say.' Did we learn anything we didn't know about Nicola Sturgeon before? Probably not. To find out if there are any revelations in the book – well you will have to buy it to find out.
