The incident occurred around 5.10pm on Wednesday, July 16, at the bridge over Cessnock Water, A76 near Hurlford.
Emergency services attended and the 14-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead.

His family has been notified.
The male driver of the car, a Vauxhall Corsa, and his two passengers were checked over by paramedics, however, they did not require to attend hospital.
The road was closed for several hours to allow collision investigation to take place.
Road Policing officers in Ayrshire are now appealing for information.
Sergeant Brian Simpson from Road Policing said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and we are providing them with support as our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of this incident. If anyone has any information, please contact us.
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 2706 of Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

A van driver and a dog have died following a one-vehicle collision near Dumfries. Emergency services were called to the C1s Old Military Road between Castle Douglas and Dumfries at around 8.55pm on Wednesday evening. A 23-year-old man, the driver of a white Vauxhall Vivaro van, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware. One of the three dogs in the van was put to sleep due to its injuries. The other two were taken to a local veterinary practice for treatment. The road was closed for enquiries to be carried out and reopened around 2.50am on Thursday. Sergeant Colin Ramage said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died. 'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash, and we would urge anyone who saw what happened to come forward. 'We're also keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the area around the time of the crash and may have dash-cam footage, as it could assist our investigation.' Man and dog die after van crash in Dumfries and Galloway

A man and a dog have died after a van crashed in Dumfries and Galloway.
