Bryson Stott Reveals Phillies Felt 'Embarrassed' After Mets Series Sweep

Yahoo17-05-2025

The Philadelphia Phillies are 25 and 18, in second place in the National League East. After a strong start to the year, the Phillies had a road trip to face the New York Mets and then the Chicago Cubs. It was a pivotal road trip with the Mets and Cubs atop their respective divisions.
However, the Phillies got crushed by the Mets, getting swept out of New York, including a series-sweep clinching walk-off from the Mets.

In a recent interview with Bryson Stott on Sports Radio 94 WIP's Afternoon show, the Phillies' second baseman was asked about the team bouncing back from the Mets series.
Stott said, "They ended out season last year. I don't want to say [it was an] embarrassing series up there, getting swept. But I think some of us kind of felt embarrassed by that [Mets series]."
Stott sharing how some of the team felt embarrassed after the Mets series is noteworthy. With the Mets set to be the Phillies' direct competition for the National League East crown, they need to get past the Mets if they want to win the World Series.

Coming off such a disastrous series, Stott and the Phillies caught their breath and have played significantly better since. After bookending the Mets series with losses to the Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs, the Phillies have since gone 12-5.

Following the Mets series, the Phillies came alive. Stott pointed out how the series was a wake-up call for the Phillies. Stott said, "I think it just kind of was a wake-up call, no matter how early it was."
The Phillies won't face the Mets until Friday, June 20th, in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, the next time the Phillies head to New York to face the Mets isn't until August 25th for a key divisional matchup late in the season.
Fortunately, the Phillies have rebounded since being swept. However, Phillies players still feel the lingering embarrassment from their NLDS loss and earlier series against the Mets this year.
With a star-studded lineup including Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor, the Phillies haven't seen the last of the team that 'embarrassed' them early in the season.

Red Sox rumors: Alex Cora's job status amid ‘sloppy, mediocre' season

The post Red Sox rumors: Alex Cora's job status amid 'sloppy, mediocre' season appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Boston Red Sox had high hopes for their 2025 campaign, but to this point, they have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league. As a result, fans everywhere are looking for someone to blame, and manager Alex Cora has taken his fair share of heat. While calls for his job have begun to grow, it doesn't sound like he's in danger of losing his job anytime soon. Advertisement Cora has been the Red Sox manager since 2018, although he did get fired for the 2020 season, only to get hired after his suspension for his role in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal ended. Having led the team to a World Series championship back in 2018, Cora has built a lot of good will for himself in Boston, and while the team has looked awful through the first two-plus months of the season, he's not on the hot seat for the time being. 'The Boston Red Sox may be playing sloppy and mediocre baseball, but manager Alex Cora's job is safe,' Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported. The Rafael Devers position drama is one thing, but they have dealt with a ton of injuries, and several key contributors have not managed to meet expectations to this point, which is why they have a 31-35 record to this point. Advertisement The Red Sox did pick up a big 10-7 victory over their longtime rival, the New York Yankees, on Saturday night, giving them a shot to pick up a series victory on Sunday. They will look to hand the American League East leading Yankees a tough loss when they return to action at Yankee Stadium, with first pitch for this clash being scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. A pair of Petes forcing their way into NL MVP consideration

Shohei Ohtani, who could be back pitching in July, is the clear NL MVP favorite. But based on current exploits, it might be between a couple of guys named Pete drafted by the Mets: Pete Crow-Armstrong and Pete Alonso. The Alonso signing may not be the best of the winter (that might be Max Fried), but it isn't far behind, even with $33 million in tax added to the $30M salary. Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong (4) celebrates after hitting a home run against the Washington Nationals. Rafael Suanes-Imagn Images He won't be getting $500M, or close. But this is the third year out of four Alonso is outhitting Vlad Guerrero Jr. The Mets had the other Pete, but as Jed Hoyer said on 'The Show,' the New York Post podcast, the Mets didn't want to part with the higher ranked (at the time) Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio or Matt Allan, so the Cubs settled for acquiring PCA in a 2021 trade.

Mets pitcher Kodai Senga headed for injured list with right hamstring injury

Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — Mets right-hander Kodai Senga, the major league ERA leader, will be placed on the injured list after suffering a right hamstring strain in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals. 'He's going to get an MRI tomorrow, we'll see the severity of it,' Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. 'But he's going to be on (the) IL here. So we've just got to wait and see what we're dealing with.' Senga allowed just two base runners in the first 5 1/3 innings before racing to cover first on CJ Abrams' grounder to Pete Alonso. According to Mendoza, Senga said he felt his hamstring grab one stride before he made a leaping grab of Alonso's high throw. Senga touched the bag with his right foot on his way down. He stumbled upon landing and reached for the back of his right leg before hopping and eventually tumbling to the ground. Senga was visited by Mendoza, a trainer and his interpreter before being surrounded by teammates. He got up and walked off the field on his own, albeit with a slight limp. Alonso has struggled making accurate throws to pitchers covering first base this season, but Senga relayed to Alonso that he was injured before he reached for the toss. 'I talked to (Alonso) right away as soon as the inning was over — I went up to him and I was like hey, man, this is baseball, it happens,' Mendoza said. 'And then Senga went in, he sent the translator and basically told him, hey, I felt it on the step before the jump, so tell him not to worry about it.' Alonso remained downcast after the game. 'I still feel awful,' Alonso said. 'I tried to make the best throw I could and it just sucks. It sucks to be involved in that, Senga, he's one of our guys here and it sucks. You hate to see anyone go down, Yeah, it sucks being a part of that.' Paul Blackburn, who blanked the Los Angeles Dodgers over five innings in his season debut June 2, is the most likely candidate to replace Senga in the rotation next Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. Frankie Montas (right lat) and Sean Manaea (right oblique) are each on minor league rehab assignments recovering from injuries they suffered in spring training. 'I keep saying it. Injuries happen,' Mendoza said. 'We feel for him but nobody's going to feel sorry for us. We've got people coming and the guys that are healthy now, they will continue to step up.' The 5 2/3 scoreless innings of one-hit ball lowered Senga's ERA to 1.47. Left-hander Jose Castillo entered with the Mets leading 4-0. The leg injury is the second in as many seasons for Senga, who suffered a left calf strain in his only regular-season start last July 26. After missing the first 102 games because of a right shoulder strain, Senga gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Braves before he was injured sprinting off the mound to clear room for Alonso to catch a pop-up by Austin Riley. Senga returned to make three appearances, including two brief starts, in the playoffs. 'I just spoke with him — obviously frustrated, but I told him he's going to be back and he's going to be an important part of this team when he gets back,' Mendoza said Thursday. 'Sucks that he's got to go through it again, but hey, we'll get him back.' ___ AP MLB: recommended
