Petronas acknowledges Sarawak's notices on gas activities
Sarawak's utility and telecommunications ministry has accused Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd of operating its Miri Crude Oil Terminal without a state licence.
KUALA LUMPUR : Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) today confirmed that its subsidiary, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, received notices on April 30 from the Sarawak utility and telecommunications ministry concerning gas processing and distribution.
Petronas said Carigali is statutorily authorised under the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 to undertake the company's activities and comply with all applicable laws in doing so.
'While we respect the aspirations of the state of Sarawak, Petronas also has a duty to uphold the PDA 1974 and safeguard national interests.
'Petronas will continue to engage constructively and work closely with the federal government, the Sarawak government and Petros in exploring future arrangements to ensure regulatory clarity and operational continuity for the benefit of the industry, state and nation as a whole,' Bernama quoted it as saying.
Petronas said it is committed to ensuring the rights and interests of all parties, including end-consumers and investors, are addressed accordingly.
Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that Sarawak's utility and telecommunications ministry had accused the Petronas subsidiary of violating Section 7(e) of the state's Distribution of Gas Ordinance (DGO) 2016.
In the letter, Carigali was accused of operating its Miri Crude Oil Terminal without a state licence and was given 21 days to rectify the matter, failing which it would face financial penalties under Section 21A.
Section 7 of the DGO 2016 spells out the licensing of activities related to the distribution of gas, while subsection (e) covers the activities of building, managing or maintaining a gas pipeline or other apparatus, equipment or mechanisms for the distribution of gas.

Unveiling of Madani slogans for Merdeka, Malaysia Day celebrations invite brickbats, ridicule
WHEN the rakyat is unhappy, rest assured that no matter what the government of the day does, it will be subject to criticism. With the cost-of-living crisis dominating the headlines alongside a number of other high-profile issues, many citizens – not limited to just opposition supporters – have been sharpening their knives. The unveiling of this year's slogan for Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations was no exception. As highlighted by The Reporter on Facebook, the slogan Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni (Malaysia Madani: Prioritising the People) was met with its fair share of cynicism and scepticism. Editor's Note: As per Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil's justification, the theme reflects the government's priority in protecting people's welfare by following the Malaysia Madani aspiration that upholds the values of unity and prosperity. Topping the agenda was the rising cost of living such as the recent price like of liquefied gas for commercial use being the main bone of contention. A few – wittily – suggested alternative slogans to reflect the withdrawal of essential subsidies. Another alternative slogan sang the praises of the crooked and corrupt. The various taxes imposed by the Madani administration was also a hot topic of discussion. Inevitably, the numerous hardships encountered by Malaysians lead to more alternate slogans, including one which literally translates to 'The Rakyat Get Urinated Upon, Taxes are Prioritised'. One netizen observed that thousands of jobs can be lost in a blink of an eye, alluding to PETRONAS recent downsizing. Even though many were put on contracts, it makes it difficult to manage family expenses, he argued. One simply observed that this year's theme was completely out of sync with the government of the day. The removal of subsidies is one but a number of other issues which included the abuse of telco data and using bodies such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to silence critics. Another netizen echoed similar sentiments by claiming that the difference between the slogan and reality were miles apart. It can be argued that on one hand, unpopular policies are necessary for the long-term health of the nation. MARii, Petronas collaborate to bring ADaPTIV to automotive industry
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) project management and technical services commercialisation arm Petronas Global Technical Solutions Sdn Bhd (PGTSSB), have established a strategic collaboration aimed at revolutionising vehicle maintenance through advanced technology. The collaboration focuses on harnessing the energy company's Advanced Diagnostic and Prognostic Technology (ADaPT), a predictive analytics technology developed to optimise assets' structural performance for the energy sector and applying it to the automotive industry under the ADaPTiV initiative. The partnership was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between MARii and PGTSSB, witnessed by Investment, Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong. Leveraging ADaPT, driven by artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things, and big data analytics, ADaPTiV is poised to deliver intelligent, real-time predictive maintenance for vehicle components. This innovative technology is set to improve vehicle reliability, enhance safety, prolong component lifespan and offer significant cost savings by optimising maintenance schedules. ADaPTiV features powerful AI-powered predictive analysis that forecasts potential component failures and suggests necessary actions before breakdowns occur.
