PMAY-G transforms rural India, says Union Minister of State Pemmasani
GUNTUR: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Friday emphasised the pivotal role of rural transformation in India's progress. Addressing the Regional Rural Workshop in Goa, held under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), he said the event showcased the collaborative spirit required to build a new India.
Chandrasekhar noted that PMAY-G, launched in 2016 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, embodies the principle of Antyodaya—uplifting the most marginalised. 'The scheme is not just a policy but a movement turning aspirations into concrete homes, offering families a journey from uncertainty to security,' he said.
The Centre aims to build 4.95 crore rural homes by March 2029. Of these, 3.90 crore have been sanctioned and 2.76 crore completed. 'Each number represents a secure family—children studying safely, elders living with dignity, and parents resting peacefully,' he added.
The Minister stressed that PMAY-G is about holistic development. Integrated with flagship schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Swachh Bharat, it is ensuring access to clean water, sanitation, and cooking gas in rural homes. He also highlighted the adoption of green housing technologies and the use of Artificial Intelligence to ensure transparent beneficiary selection, noting that the government's focus remains on long-term impact over mere statistics.
Calling microfinance a key bridge to fulfilling rural aspirations, Dr. Chandrasekhar said the future lies in innovation, data-driven decision-making, and inclusive financial support. These, he asserted, will drive the transformation of rural India into a model of sustainable development.

Union Agriculture Minister announces approximately Rs 6,262 crore for MNREGA for Madhya Pradesh this year
Sehore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development works worth crores of rupees in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare said in a release. As per the release, on this occasion, Chouhan said that for the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act), Madhya Pradesh will receive approximately Rs 6,262 crore this year. Chouhan called upon everyone to actively participate in development initiatives and said, 'We will leave no stone unturned to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The development of villages and the nation is only possible with the support and cooperation of the people. The development of the country depends on the development of its villages.' Chouhan added that consistent work is being done to bring Narmada water to Sehore, and the people can expect the waters of Narmada to reach the region soon. Efforts are also underway to supply Narmada water to farmers' fields in Ashta and Ichhawar. Speaking on urban development, Chouhan noted that Bhopal is being designated as a metropolitan city, and this will significantly benefit Sehore as the two cities grow closer and progress together. Regarding housing for the poor, Chouhan shared that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), 14 lakh homes were approved for the poor as per the 2018+ list. He announced the approval of the remaining 7,85,356 houses. He also mentioned that the survey work for the scheme is underway, and after verification, new eligible applicants will also be approved to ensure that every deserving poor family gets a home. The Minister proudly stated that 1.48 crore women across the country have become 'Lakhpati Didis' (women earning Rs 1 lakh or more annually), and the government continues to strive to ensure no woman remains poor. Efforts are also being made to increase this number further. Chouhan further discussed the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, stating, 'I have asked 16,000 scientists to step out of laboratories and go into villages. These scientists are now visiting rural areas, sharing their research directly with the farmers. I urge farmers to listen carefully to the scientists and adopt their recommendations to increase productivity. It is our resolve to achieve Viksit Krishi (developed agriculture) for a Viksit Bharat.' Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, also addressing the gathering on this occasion, assured that irrigation facilities will be extended to every farm and that, wherever necessary, full water support will be provided to ensure complete irrigation, the release added. The session spotlighted India's robust economic trajectory, expanding investment opportunities, and the country's efforts to harmonise economic growth with ecological responsibility. Sonowal also became the first minister from India to visit the prestigious business school, as stated in the release. The Minister was joined by a distinguished panel of faculty and maritime experts, including Brian Wessel, Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority; Leif Christensen, Associate Dean, Copenhagen Business School; and Irene Rosberg, Programme Director of the Blue MBA. The Union Minister was accompanied by Manish Prabhat, Ambassador of India to Denmark. Speaking to the Blue MBA cohort, Minister Sonowal outlined India's maritime growth strategy, driven by the Sagarmala Programme and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, both aimed at creating sustainable infrastructure, multimodal logistics, and a future-ready maritime ecosystem. Delhi: Amit Shah meets officers behind successful anti-Naxal ops in Chhattisgarh, congratulates them on historic success
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah met officers in Delhi who played a key role in recent anti-Naxal operations carried out in Chhattisgarh and congratulated them on their historic success. Shah said that the Modi government is committed to freeing India from the menace of Naxalism. In a post on X on Saturday, Union Home Minister said, 'Met the officers who played a crucial role in the recent anti-Naxal operations and congratulated them on the historic success of these operations. I am eager to meet the brave jawans who made these operations successful with their courage, and will soon visit Chhattisgarh to meet them. The Modi government is committed to freeing India from the menace of Naxalism.' It is noteworthy that, under the guidance of the Union Home Minister, security forces have been conducting anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh. As part of these efforts, the Chhattisgarh Police (including DRG units from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Bijapur districts) carried out an operation in the interior areas of Abujhmad from May 18 to May 21. On May 21, an encounter in the forests of Boter village resulted in the elimination of 27 Naxals, including CPI (Maoist) General Secretary and Polit Bureau member Basavaraju alias Gaganna, along with the recovery of a large quantity of arms and ammunition. The officers involved in this operation, including Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Additional Director General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations/SIB/STF) Vivekanand, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj, Superintendent of Police (Narayanpur) Prabhat Kumar, Superintendent of Police (Bijapur) Jitendra Yadav, and Superintendent of Police (Naxal-free Bastar District) Shalabh Singh, were honored by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The event was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sharma, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, and several other senior officials.
