Sultan Mizan Graces Groundbreaking Of Uitm Bukit Besi Mosque
DUNGUN, June 26 (Bernama) -- Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, today officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a mosque at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Bukit Besi Campus.
Also in attendance were the Yang Dipertuan Muda of Terengganu Tengku Muhammad Ismail and Tengku Sri Setia Mahkota Raja Tengku Datuk Seri Muhammad Mu'az.
Their Highnesses were received by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali and other dignitaries.
UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib said the mosque, to be named Pusat Hidayah, will be developed in three phases, with the first phase estimated to cost RM2 million.
He said the waqf-based project is funded through public contributions, with RM2 million raised since 2018. Phase one will include a prayer hall and an imam's room, with subsequent phases to follow once more funds are secured.
'Construction on the 0.61-hectare site is expected to begin soon and phase one is targeted for completion in 2027,' he told reporters after the ceremony.
The mosque, which can accommodate 1,500 worshippers, will serve 774 UiTM students and residents of Kampung Besol, as the nearest mosque is five kilometres away.
In the interim, the student hostel lobby, surrounding recreation areas and landscaped spaces are being used for prayers.
Once fully completed, the mosque will also serve as a centre for religious learning, community service, and the promotion of positive values among students and nearby residents.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- In the calm of dusk, the prayer hall of Masjid Negara echoed with heartfelt supplications as Muslims marked the arrival of 1 Muharram 1447 Hijrah, ushering in the new Islamic year. From as early as 6.30 pm, more than 1,000 congregants, including tahfiz students and members of the public, gathered in the mosque's main prayer hall for the year-end and new year prayers in commemoration of the Hijrah. Following Isyak prayers, a solat jenazah ghaib (funeral prayer in absentia) was performed for Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) chairman Prof Datuk Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty, who passed away at 11.27 am today at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital, Serdang. Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Mohd Na'im urged Muslims to embrace the spirit of Hijrah not merely as a historical event, but as an ongoing journey of personal and communal transformation. He said 1 Muharram is a timely opportunity for introspection, to shed narrow thinking and negativity, and to strive towards building a more progressive and balanced society. 'May we be granted the strength and resolve to continue spreading good, developing our potential and contributing to national progress,' he said.

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, said the world today is facing a series of environmental phenomena that have triggered widespread disasters, endangering both human well-being and the sustainability of our planet. 'The growing population, rising urban density, land clearing for new settlements, infrastructure development, urban expansion, and industrial activity have all directly impacted the natural environment. 'This Earth belongs to Allah. Let us honour and give thanks for the divine blessings we have received— not by defying His commands, but by ending all forms of harm and injustice toward the natural world. Remote School Becomes A Beacon Of Hope For Orang Asli Children Through Anak Kita Programme
KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- Tucked away from the bustle of the city, deep within the dense forests and clear waters of Tasik Banding, stands a school that serves as a beacon of hope for Jahai Orang Asli children in the remote villages of the Royal Belum rainforest, Gerik, Perak. Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Tiang, the only school in the area, serves 125 students from Year One to Year Six and is accessible only by a nearly two-hour boat ride across the lake and through the jungle. Despite the challenging terrain, the classrooms echo with the voices of Orang Asli children, who typically communicate in their native tongue but are now learning to pronounce syllables and words in the national language and beginning to understand basic numbers. Every word spoken and spelled out by these young learners reflects their unwavering determination to learn, despite limited resources, a tenacity now given new momentum with their school's selection as one of 104 in Perak to join the Anak Kita programme. The school's headmaster, Mohammad Rezal Shuib, said the programme is a collaboration with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, involving the placement of Guru Bitara (Master Teachers) from the local community to co-teach with remedial teachers, helping to ensure more effective communication and engagement with the students. He said Orang Asli students face significant educational challenges compared to mainstream students due to their different cultural and language backgrounds, as well as geographic, socioeconomic and environmental factors that shape their overall learning experience. 'The strength of the Anak Kita programme lies in its ability to adapt to local challenges, making it a more inclusive and effective educational initiative. 'At SK Sungai Tiang, for instance, most students are from the Jahai tribe who speak their mother tongue. Having a Guru Bitara, who understands the local culture and language, makes learning smoother and more effective,' he told Bernama. Launched on Sept 27, 2024, the programme is a national education reform initiative under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
