'Owners Not Okay With Muslims Due To Pak Issue': IIT Graduate Rejected By Bengaluru Landlords
Last Updated:
The X user said brokers have failed to recommend him an accommodation in a place of his choice in Bengaluru as they all told him that "owners not okay with Muslims"
An IIT-Madras alumnus has claimed that he has been rejected by multiple landlords in Bengaluru because of his religious identity, amid tensions between India and Pakistan.
Identifying himself as Sanjeed on X, he said brokers have failed to recommend him an accommodation in a place of his choice. He said he visited four such homes with brokers, but at the end of the day, they all told him 'owners not okay with Muslims".
Asking if there were any areas in Bengaluru that were not 'islamophobic", he said he would optimise for that. In an earlier post, he had mentioned that he was looking for a 2 BHK in Indiranagar or Koramangala – known to be preferred by IT professionals.
'Saw around 4 places with brokers. at the end of the day broker says 'sorry owners not okay with Muslims, due to Pak issues"…what areas in blr are not islamophobic? will optimize for that," he said in his post on X.
'I am so sorry, Sanjeed, that you are facing this issue. This is not acceptable at all. Here are some area suggestions considering the situation you are encountering: Queens Road, Shivaji Nagar, Kora Second Block, Richmond, Cox Town. I have stayed at Queens and Kora Second Block. My landlords were/are Muslims as well. You should not have any problems here," (sic) an internet user said.
Another user said: 'North bangalore is pretty chill with amazing gated societies. Do consider areas behind Manyata tech park, Bhartiya city, Hennur and everything from Hebbal to Yalahanka has quite nice societies.
South Elec city is very nice." (sic)
In fact, in another post, Sanjeed even said if Bengaluru does not work out for him, he would prefer moving to a place like Dubai. He, however, thanked all those who had recommended other locations for him with broker details.
One internet user even asked him to move to Gurugram, which is a major IT hub. 'Should come to gurgaon no one cares to my knowledge," (sic) one individual commented on the post, which has more than 50,000 views.
Another individual invited him to work in Indonesia. 'Happy to chat if getting out of Bangalore becomes a priority. Jakarta/Indoneisa is a great place to live and we are building our AI team now," (sic) the user said.
Some, however, were not impressed by his use of the term 'islamophobic" and slammed him for it. While calling it a choice on part of the landlords, one user said: 'Dude, no need to use big words like Islamophobia etc. just like you choose not to eat no halal meat, owner choose not to give it to Muslims. Both of you choose things based on religion. You can be called as Hindu phobic for eating halal meat." (sic)

IIT-Madras launches School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to boost startup ecosystem
The Indian Institute of Technology–Madras (IIT-M) has launched a School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to provide structured academic support for the creation of startups. 'Our goal is to emerge as the leading school for innovation and entrepreneurship in the next five years and put IITM on the map of entrepreneurial universities across the world,' Prabhu Rajagopal, Head, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship told The Hindu. 'The goal is primarily to provide an academic footprint to the entrepreneurial activities that are going on inside the campus,' he added. According to Mr. Rajagopal, who is a serial faculty-entrepreneur and a faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering Department, the school will offer a wide range of academic and non-academic programs, cutting-edge research in innovation and entrepreneurship, and a distinctive lab-to-startup pathway through the MS in Entrepreneurship (to be offered from the July-November 2025 semester). 'We will bring all the innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives on campus under this school. For example, the Centre for Innovation (CFI) and Nirmaan will now come under the school,' he added. Plans are on anvil to create IITM-specific funding mechanisms at the initiation and scale-up stages for startups, to be housed under the banner of this school. Practice-led degrees at undergraduate and master's levels are also being envisaged. 'We are also looking at an 'Innovation Doctorate,'' Mr. Rajagopal said. 'Last year, IIT-M Director set an ambitious target of incubating 100 startups every year. And we have achieved it. But it can't be a one-time wonder – We need to be doing it on a regular basis every time. And that's why we need to provide academic support for entrepreneurship on campus,' he added. During the financial year 2024–25, IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITMIC) incubated 104 new startups. Over 50% of these startups were founded by IIT Madras members, including faculty, staff, students, and alumni, while 48% were founded by external entrepreneurs. Over the last 12 years, IITMIC has incubated a total of 457 deep-tech startups, collectively valued at over ₹50,000 crore.

Pune woman ‘marries' woman she met through matrimony portal, he dupes her of Rs 10 lakh
The Kothrud police in Pune Monday booked a 45-year-old man for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 10 lakh after 'marrying' her and borrowing money from her. The accused has been identified as Sachin Suresh Jagtap, a resident of Ravet. The FIR was registered against Jagtap under sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4)(cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the woman's complaint, she received a request from the accused in November 2023 on a matrimony app, and they got married according to Hindu traditions in January 2024 in the presence of witnesses. However, the marriage was not officially registered, according to the police. The woman divorced her former husband a few years ago, and Jagtap allegedly told her that he also went through a divorce in 2015. After the marriage, Jagtap, however, allegedly refused to let the woman move in to reside at his house, making several excuses. Later in January, Jagtap and a friend allegedly convinced the woman to lend him her credit card so he could borrow money to help with his business venture. He also convinced her to take out a loan against her mutual fund investments to lend him more money. In total, the woman lent Jagtap Rs 10.10 lakh. Assistant Police Inspector Prema Patil told The Indian Express, 'The couple met on a matrimonial site. The man intended to marry the woman and even had the ceremony, but he never stayed with her after the marriage. He took money from her, saying that he needed it to build his business. He last contacted her in October last year. The investigation in the case is ongoing, and no arrests have been made yet.' Soham is a Correspondent with the Indian Express in Pune. Josh Hazlewood extends his unbeaten runs in final helping RCB win maiden IPL title. Check out his record
Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood continued his record of being undefeated in major finals after he helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinch their first Indian Premier League trophy on Sunday night. He took 1 wicket in the final against Punjab Kings but his contribution throughout the season for the franchise was immense with the Aussie taking 22 wickets from 12 matches, finishing 3rd in the Purple Cap race. He has won all the finals he has played including for the Sydney Sixers, the Australian national cricket team as well as the Chennai Super Kings. Here's a look at how he fared in the previous summit clashes: 2010 U19 WC final: 4/30 against Pakistan in 8.4 overs, bundling out Pak for 82 in chase of 208. For this effort, he won the 'Player of the Match' award. Champions League T20 final in 2012: 3/22 in four overs for Sydney Sixers, bundling out Lions, a South African T20 team, for 121, which was chased down easily. His effort also included the scalp of future South African great Quinton de Kock. World Cup 2015 final: Rock-solid spell of 0/30 in eight overs. This is his only wicketless spell in a tournament final. Mitchell Starc's iconic dismissal of skipper Brendon McCullum kept Aussies in the match from start as they made a lightwork of a below-par 183 by New Zealand. Big Bash League 2019-2020 final: He took 3/18 in three overs of a 12-over-a-side game for the Sixers, which reduced Melbourne Stars to 97/6 in a run-chase of 117. IPL 2021 for CSK: Representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he took 2/29 in four overs, including wickets of Sunil Narine and Eoin Morgan which sunk KKR to 165/9 in chase of 193. T20 WC 2021 final: Pitted against New Zealand, he took 3/16 in four overs, not allowing Kiwis to score massive as they could score just a competitive 172/4, powered by Kane Williamson's 85. His wicket tally included scalps of Daryl Mitchell, Kane and Glenn Phillips. Aussies chased down the total with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner hitting fifties. World Cup 2023 final: Hazlewood delivered a solid spell of 2/60 in 10 overs, which included wickets of Ravindra Jadeja and Suryakumar Yadav. A rampaging India slumped to 240 all-out which was chased down courtesy a Travis Head masterclass in front of a packed Narendra Modi stadium. (stats via Statsguru) (With agency inputs)
