Too early to conclude Air India crash cause: Aviation min on probe report

Union Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu on Saturday said that it is immature to jump to conclusions at the juncture over the recent Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad, as the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has only released the preliminary report.
On June 12, a London-bound Air India flight, AI 171, crashed immediately after take off in Ahmedabad, killing 260 people.
"So, let's not jump to any conclusions at this stage. Let us wait for the final report. These are technical things and that is why we have these investigation agencies. Once they are clear..., they are going to submit the final report. At this stage it will be very immature for me to comment on it," said Naidu.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an official programme in the port city, the aviation minister heaped praise on the AAIB, Indian pilots and cabin crews, calling them the 'best' in the world.
He also underscored that 'justice' has to be done to the family members of one of India's worst air disasters.
"Justice has to be done. So, I know it is a very difficult time for the family members, but from our side, whatever best we can do from the ministry we are trying to assist," he added.
Promising assistance to the AAIB in submitting the final report, the aviation minister noted that, "We have to wait for something 'concrete' to emerge. This is a preliminary report right now and from the ministry we are analysing the report but I think it would be better if we comment on it once the final report comes in." "We are hoping that as soon as possible the final report comes in then we can arrive at some conclusion," said Naidu, adding that there are multiple other things that also need to be looked into before preparing the final report.
The minister, said for the first time that securing the black box and trying to decode its data is being done in India in the AAIB lab in Delhi.
"So, I would like to appreciate all the efforts they put in to do a very transparent, very mature (and) professional way the investigation has been done," he said.
Naidu also highlighted that AAIB has respected all the international protocols while preparing the report.
Further, he eulogised Indian pilots and cabin crew, calling them 'the most wonderful workforce'.
"I have to appreciate all the efforts the pilots and crew in this country are putting into aviation," he said, adding that they are the backbone and primary resource of civil aviation.

8th Pay Commission: Expected hike, implementation timeline, beneficiaries — Full details inside

The Central Government is gearing up for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, which will overhaul the pay structure, allowances, and pensions of nearly 1 crore central government employees and pensioners. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw earlier confirmed the formation of the commission is expected by January 2026. What Is the 8th Pay Commission? The Pay Commission reviews and recommends changes in the salary structure, allowances, and pension benefits of central government employees. The 8th Commission will revise key elements such as: Basic Pay Dearness Allowance (DA) House Rent Allowance (HRA) Transport Allowance (TA) It will benefit over 50 lakh government employees and around 65 lakh pensioners, including defence personnel. When Will It Be Implemented? While the Commission is expected to be formed in early 2026, reports suggest recommendations may be submitted by the end of 2025. However, the actual implementation could be pushed to FY27, depending on how quickly the Terms of Reference (ToR) are approved and the report is finalized. Past trends show such delays are common—the 7th Pay Commission was announced in 2014 but implemented in 2016. How Much Salary Hike Is Expected? Although official numbers are awaited, industry estimates predict a 30–34% salary hike, in line with earlier trends and recent tax cuts worth ₹1 trillion planned for FY26. Current minimum basic salary: ₹18,000 Expected minimum post-hike salary: ₹51,480 Estimated government expenditure: ₹1.8 lakh crore The fitment factor, which was 2.57 in the 7th CPC, plays a critical role in determining the revised pay. A higher fitment factor will result in a proportionately higher basic pay. Understanding the Salary Structure: Basic Pay: Fixed and based on pay level (≈51.5% of income) DA (Dearness Allowance): Adjusted for inflation (≈30.9%) HRA (House Rent Allowance): Location-based rental support (≈15.4%) TA (Transport Allowance): For commuting expenses (≈2.2%) For example, an employee earning ₹18,000 basic pay with 50% DA would receive ₹9,000 as DA, bringing the total to ₹27,000—excluding other allowances. The 8th Pay Commission is set to bring substantial relief and salary upgrades for lakhs of government employees and pensioners. While January 2026 is a tentative milestone, actual rollouts might stretch to FY27. Keep an eye on the official ToR and recommendations for precise updates.

India slams Rath Yatra disruption in Toronto, calls incident ‘despicable'; urges Canada to act against perpetrators

NEW DELHI: India has strongly condemned the disruption caused during the Rath Yatra procession in Toronto, calling it a "despicable act" that goes against the spirit of unity and social harmony. In an official statement, ministry of external affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the matter has been taken up with Canadian authorities. 'We have seen reports regarding disruption created by mischievous elements during the Rath Yatra procession in Toronto. Such despicable acts are regrettable and are against the spirit of the festival, which seeks to promote unity, inclusivity, and social harmony,' Jaiswal said. The MEA said it expects Canada to take appropriate action. 'We have strongly taken up the matter with Canadian authorities to hold the perpetrators of the act accountable. We hope the Canadian Government will take necessary action to protect the religious rights of people,' the statement added. The incident occurred during the annual Hindu festival in Toronto, where anti-social elements reportedly attempted to disrupt the religious procession. India has repeatedly called on Canada to ensure the safety and rights of its diaspora community, amid concerns over rising incidents targeting Indian-origin religious gatherings.

"ECI has been exposed," says AAP's Saurabh Bhardwaj ahead of Bihar polls

New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj on Monday alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is using the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar as a tool to manipulate voter lists ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in the state. Speaking to ANI, Bhardwaj said that the Commission has been 'exposed' in past elections in Delhi, Haryana, and Maharashtra, and accused it of engineering large-scale irregularities in the voters' lists to favour certain outcomes. 'The Election Commission has been exposed in the Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi elections. Before the Delhi election, we proved how to rig the elections; the names of genuine voters were deducted, and thousands of new voters were added. The way the election commission was exposed in Delhi, they knew that this exercise wouldn't work,' he told ANI. Bhardwaj further added, 'They are devising methods to manipulate the voter list. This is not a way to conduct elections. This means you are going to decide who will cast the vote and who will win.' Reacting to the same, Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav, criticised the Election Commission of India, calling it 'Dhritrashtra' over their decision to revise electoral rolls in Bihar, and accused them of 'not respecting' the Constitution or following Supreme Court advice. Speaking with ANI, Pappu Yadav said, 'The Election Commission has already become 'Dhritarashtra'. They are neither following the Supreme Court's advice nor respecting the Constitution. The Supreme Court advised them and clearly stated that under no circumstances can you decide who is Indian and who is not. Work under the Constitution and include Aadhaar card along with other documents.' Meanwhile, the BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy supports the Election Commission of India on special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, saying it is the responsibility of the poll body to remove any 'Bangladeshi or Pakistani' from the voter list. Supreme Court has allowed EC to continue Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls while advising them to consider allowing Aadhaar, ration cards, and electoral photo identity cards as admissible documents to prove voter identity. A bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi stated in its order, 'We are of the prima facie opinion that in the interest of justice, the Election Commission will also include documents like Aadhaar, Ration Card, Voter ID card, etc. It is for the ECI to decide whether it wants to accept the documents or not, and if it does not, then provide reasons for its decision, which shall be sufficient to satisfy the petitioners. Meanwhile, petitioners are not pressing for an interim stay.' The Election Commission of India (ECI) said that till Saturday evening, 80.11 per cent of electors in Bihar submitted their forms, adding that the commission is moving ahead to complete the collection of Enumeration Forms (EFs) before the stipulated time of July 25. Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, ECI has not announced an official date. While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again be looking to continue their stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to unseat Nitish Kumar. In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, HAM(S)-4, with the support of two independent candidates. The Opposition's INDIA Bloc has a strength of 111 members with RJD leading with 77 MLAs, Congress-19, CPI(ML)-11, CPI(M)-2 and CPI-2. (ANI)
