Bureaucrat Bishnupada Sethi gets protection from arrest till July 8
The case originates from the December 8 arrest of a group general manager of a public sector undertaking (PSU), who was allegedly caught accepting rS 10 lakh bribe from a Bhubaneswar-based real estate firm. During interrogation, Sethi's name reportedly surfaced, leading the CBI to conduct a search at his residence on February 18.
Sethi had earlier filed a writ petition on February 25 seeking to quash the CBI investigation. The high court had granted him interim protection at that time, which was extended periodically until the petition was dismissed on June 20. On the same day, Sethi filed an anticipatory bail plea.
After a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Justice V Narasingh granted Sethi interim protection from arrest until the next hearing and sought a status report on the investigation from the CBI. In its June 20 ruling, the court had dismissed the writ petition, calling it 'premature and not maintainable' since the probe was still at an early stage. The court cautioned against misuse of its extraordinary jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution to obstruct legitimate investigations.
Emphasising the principle that 'higher the office, greater the responsibility,' the court remarked that public servants, especially senior bureaucrats like Sethi, are expected to uphold the law and not evade scrutiny. It also criticised what it described as 'forum-shopping' by the petitioners, warning that allowing such practices would send a dangerous message.

The PM e-Drive initiative aims to deploy 14,028 electric buses with a total financial outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over a two-year period from April 2024 to March 2026. The scheme represents one of the world's largest national efforts to electrify public transport at scale.

Millet push, kiwi boost, dragon fruit drive: Uttarakhand's Dhami government reflects on 4 years of farm and horticulture gains
The Uttarakhand government has expanded focus on both traditional agriculture and high-value horticulture, introducing a series of initiatives aimed at increasing farmers' incomes and diversifying crop production across the state, under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's four year tenure. The state has integrated millets into the public distribution system, mid-day meals, and Anganwadi nutrition programs to boost both demand and nutritional access. In 2023, the State Millet Mission was launched to raise awareness, increase production, and improve procurement and storage infrastructure. The state government has significantly raised the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for mandua — from Rs 2,500 per quintal in 2021–22 to Rs 4,200 per quintal in 2024–25- marking a 68 per cent increase. In parallel, marketing initiatives such as open-market promotion and the House of Himalayas platform have been rolled out. The number of mandua collection centers has expanded from 23 in 2020–21 to 270 in 2024–25, with support from Multi-Purpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies and Farmer Producer Organizations. Further institutional support is being introduced through the Uttarakhand State Millets Policy 2025–26. The policy is structured in two phases: the first, running from 2025–26 to 2027–28, will cover 30,000 hectares across 24 development blocks; the second, from 2028–29 to 2030–31, will expand coverage to 40,000 hectares across 44 blocks. The policy applies to 11 districts, excluding Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, and supports crops such as mandua, jhangora (barnyard millet), ramdana (amaranth), kauni, and china (foxtail millet). It offers 70 per cent state assistance for setting up kiwi orchards at a cost of Rs 12 lakh per acre, with beneficiaries covering the remaining 30 per cent. The policy is applicable in 11 districts and has a total project outlay of Rs 894 crore. A separate scheme for dragon fruit cultivation was also launched in April 2025 under the Chief Minister's State Agriculture Development Program. The initiative, running through 2027–28, targets seven districts-Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Nainital, Bageshwar, Pauri, Dehradun, and Tehri. It offers 80 per cent state support on an estimated cost of Rs 8 lakh per acre, with the remaining cost borne by farmers. The scheme focuses on promoting cultivation through modern and scientific methods. 'Our government is committed to boosting traditional agriculture as well as horticulture to increase farmers' incomes. We are providing everything from modern seeds to advanced technologies. A prosperous Uttarakhand requires prosperous farmers,' said CM Dhami.

Jagan claims collapse of law and order in Andhra, demands President's rule
YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has demanded the imposition of President's Rule in Andhra Pradesh, alleging a total breakdown of law and order under the TDP-led NDA government. Jagan also alleged that YSRCP workers were being "assaulted" for defying the ruling TDP.(Facebook) The former chief minister alleged that YSRCP leaders and activists were being targeted through false cases, "illegal" arrests, and an "organised campaign of political harassment". "When there is no protection to politicians and citizens, law and order is deteriorating, and the Constitution is being violated, then why shouldn't President's rule be imposed?" Reddy posed on 'X'. He said on Friday that the recent attack on Dalit village panchayat president Nagamalleswar Rao of Mannava village in Guntur district in broad daylight shows the "lawlessness" in the state and the video of that incident depicts the gravity of the situation. Jagan also alleged that YSRCP workers were being "assaulted" for defying the ruling TDP and questioned whether people are truly safe under the Chandrababu Naidu government. Meanwhile, YSRCP SC Cell president TJR Sudhakar Babu accused Naidu of insulting Dalits. He alleged that the chief minister demeaned Dalit YSRCP supporter C Singayya, who died by allegedly falling under the wheels of Jagan Mohan Reddy's convoy at Etukuru Cross in Guntur district. Naidu likened Singayya to a dog and resorted to disrespecting the deceased person and politicising the tragedy, Babu alleged. The YSRCP leader also accused Naidu of showcasing "a pattern of hurling casteist insults", and cited previous remarks by TDP leaders, ostensibly questioning Dalits' education and political rights. Babu alleged that CM Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh prioritise real estate over welfare and foster violence against Dalits, and demanded a full probe into Singayya's death.
