Shorts permitted in camogie after overwhelming majority vote at Special Congress
The motion — which needed a two-thirds majority in order to be passed — succeeded after receiving an overwhelming 98% of the votes from delegates.
Camogie Association President Brian Molloy announced the result, which means every player will now have the option of wearing shorts instead of compulsory skorts.

'We are pleased to announce that delegates have voted by an overwhelming majority in favour of giving players greater choice in their playing attire,' said Molloy on a landmark day in the history of the association.
'From midnight tonight, each individual player will have the option to wear skorts or shorts – adding choice while maintaining the professionalism and uniformity of our team kits in both colour and design.
'I want to sincerely thank our incredible volunteers for their ongoing support over the last few weeks, and to our delegates for voting on behalf of over 120,000 members, including 94,000 playing members.
'As the All-Ireland championships begin this weekend, we ask everyone to support their teams, drive higher attendances at all upcoming games, and help us fill Croke Park for the finals on August 10th.'
Players have campaigned vigorously for change in recent weeks and have staged protests by wearing shorts on matchdays. Some matches have been cancelled as a result while others were played out as normal after teams completed their warm-ups in shorts and changed back into skorts before throw-in.
Motions concerning skorts went before Camogie Congress last year but were defeated. The matter was not intended to be heard at Congress again until 2027 but following a wave of public pressure, the Camogie Association announced a Special Congress for today to address the issue of skorts.
The Gaelic Players' Association released a statement shortly after the result was announced at Croke Park.
'We welcome the result of this evening's vote for choice at the Camogie Association Special Congress.
'The GPA would like to put on the record our admiration for camogie players across Ireland and beyond, both at inter-county and club level, who made their voices heard to ensure this outcome.
'To our own membership who have led the campaign for choice, we salute your willingness to stand up for both yourselves, and future generations of camogie players.
'We thank the delegates who listened to players' call for choice.
'The last few weeks have once again shown the necessity of putting players at the heart of decision making within Gaelic games.'

Paul Madden has been appointed as the new Clare senior football boss. Former Éire Óg Ennis manager Madden replaces Peter Keane after the Kerry native departed the role after only a year in charge of the Banner footballers. Madden has taken the role on for a three-year term, having led Éire Óg to three Clare SFC crowns during his stint in charge of their senior footballers. His backroom team will be confirmed at a later time. The Banner were Munster runners-up this year, losing the provincial final to eventual All-Ireland winners Kerry.

Ireland's Eve McMahon makes move on second day of European Championships
Ireland's Eve McMahon jumped to the leading pack of contenders on the second day of the European Championships for the ILCA 6 women's one-person dinghy in Sweden after a solid day of racing. Her start to the series saw her disqualified from the opening race on Monday that incurred a maximum points penalty. However, once three races were sailed on day two, the single event discard allowed her to drop that score. A 10th place followed by a second, delivered a nice bounce in the standings up to fifth place overall. READ MORE The Howth sailor made Irish sailing history in May when she won bronze at the world championships in China and is looking to close out her 2025 season on a similar high. Meanwhile, her older brother Ewan has also had a strong start to his ILCA 7 men's event though slipped slightly in the standings to sixth overall after day two in Marstrand when he scored second and 10th places. Any top 10 place by the end of the qualification round that ends on Wednesday would be a commendable score and a solid attacking base for the three days of Gold fleet racing that follows before the championship outcome is decided on Saturday. For Ewan McMahon, his current standing sees him ahead of double Olympian team-mate Finn Lynch who is currently 12th European in 15th overall. Notably, McMahon is only two points off first overall while Lynch is only eight points behind his team-mate. The entire 153-boat men's fleet is split into three flights to manage the qualification round but all the top boats will race together from Thursday in the final series. The picturesque Marstrand venue north of Gothenburg on Sweden's west coast is proving highly tricky as a strong swell with light winds is making spotting windshifts difficult. After a breezy start to the championships on Monday, the forecast for the remainder of the week is for continued light conditions that raise the risk of deep results so the sailors will maintain conservative strategies to avoid high scores.

Thomas Frank leaves Yves Bissouma out of Spurs' Super Cup squad due to lateness
European Super Cup Final: Paris Saint-Germain v Tottenham Hotspur, Stadio Friuli, Udine, 8pm Irish time – Live on RTÉ 2 Thomas Frank has flexed his muscles with Tottenham's squad by excluding Yves Bissouma from the travelling party to face Paris Saint-Germain owing to persistent lateness. Spurs make their Uefa Super Cup debut in Udine on Wednesday in a fiendish early test for their manager, who is overseeing his first pre-season since moving from Brentford in June. Frank has wasted no time pressing home his standards and explained he had opted against selecting Bissouma, the Mali international midfielder, because of multiple lapses. 'Bissouma has not travelled with the team because of disciplinary reasons,' Frank said after their arrival in northeast Italy. 'He has been late several times and the latest time was one too many. With everything you need to give your players a lot of love but also have demands and there also need to be consequences. This time there was a consequence for that.' Frank suggested the punishment applied only to this fixture and that he would 'follow up when I come home'. READ MORE The infraction will heighten doubts over Bissouma's future. He has entered the final year of his contract with little sign a new deal is imminent and his three seasons at Tottenham have been decidedly mixed. The club suspended him from the trip to Leicester last August after he was recorded inhaling nitrous oxide and their former manager Ange Postecoglou said he 'sometimes lets the game drift by him' after the defeat by Fulham in March. Although the Super Cup sits below Uefa's three other major club competitions in terms of prestige, Frank played up the importance of following their Europa League win by toppling the Champions League holders. 'It's a massive game,' he said. 'A great challenge and an even bigger opportunity. That's how my brain works, I see opportunities instead of pressure. So for me, massive opportunity. We will definitely embrace it and we will do everything.' Spurs' squad for the coming Premier League season remains incomplete and they are trying to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace under the noses of Arsenal. Frank did not take the bait when asked about any deal for the forward. 'There are a lot of good players out there, there are also a few from the PSG team, but I don't think we can buy them right now.' he said. 'In general, players in and players out, I'm only speaking if something is done or not done.' Frank must improvise in attack given the long-term absences of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. On the brighter side, Dominic Solanke has recovered from an ankle injury that has plagued his summer and should take a place on the bench. Destiny Udogie is also available after a knee problem. – Guardian
