Major project on ramp from southbound Rt. 28 to northbound Rt. 8 getting underway today

CBS News07-07-2025
A ramp closure could make for a messy commute for drivers on Rt. 28 this morning.
The ramp to the Rt. 8/Butler exit from the southbound lanes of Rt. 28 was closed early Monday morning ahead of schedule and will remain closed until the end of the month.
PennDOT is closing the ramp so that crews can do reconstruction work and as a result, a significant detour is being implemented.

Drivers wishing to exit Rt. 28 onto Rt. 8 are going to need to drive past the ramp that's closing and take Exit 3 to Millvale and continue onto East Ohio Street.
From there, drivers will be able to get back onto Rt. 28 heading the other direction and take the left exit to Rt. 8/Butler.
During the temporary ramp closure, crews will work on a barrier to separate travel lanes, do pavement restoration work, add upgrades to signage and signals, and implement ADA curb updates.

The Best EVs of 2025 (So Far)

If you want a new electric vehicle, you have a lot of fantastic choices. EVs occupy a relatively small share of the market, but almost every carmaker has at least one in its lineup. Whether you're looking for a sporty, low-slung sedan or a three-row people-mover, there's an electric car out there for you. While EVs might all deliver power in a similar way, they're far from equal. Exterior design, interior layout, suspension tuning, weight, and battery size are just a few of the variables that can make an electric vehicle stand out above the rest. These are the best EVs on sale we've tested in 2025 (so far). Audi RS E-Tron GT Photo by: Audi 912 Horsepower Price: $168,295 Why We Love It: With 912 horsepower and a 0–60 mph time of just 2.4 seconds, the Audi RS E-Tron GT is a true super sedan—earning spots on both our Best Sedans and Best Performance Cars lists for 2025. But it's not just fast; it's also an outstanding electric vehicle. Powered by a 97.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack and two electric motors, the RS E-Tron GT offers an impressive 278 miles of range on a full charge. Even better, it can recharge in just 18 minutes at a DC fast charger—meaning less time plugged in and more time carving corners. Starting at $168,295, the RS E-Tron GT isn't cheap—but with this level of performance and capability, it's worth every penny. Read Our Review Cadillac Escalade IQ Photo by: Alanis King / Motor1 750 Horsepower Price: $127,700 Why We Love It: The Cadillac Escalade has long been an icon among full-size SUVs—and now, it's entering a bold new era. With the introduction of the IQ badge, Cadillac's flagship SUV trades its traditional V-8 for a massive 205.0-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and two electric motors, producing 750 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. Despite all that power, the Escalade IQ still delivers an impressive 460 miles of range on a full charge. At a DC fast charger, it can recover 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes—perfect for road trips and long hauls. Starting at $129,990, the Escalade IQ is among the priciest SUVs on the market, but with its blend of luxury, performance, and range, it more than lives up to the hype. Read Our Review Jeep Wagoneer S Photo by: Anthony Alaniz / Motor1 600 Horsepower Price: $67,195 Why We Love It: The Jeep Wagoneer S is a bit of an enigma—in the best way. It looks and feels like a traditional Jeep, yet the 600-horsepower dual-motor setup in the Launch Edition can propel this 6,700-pound SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. That's serious speed, especially for a two-row SUV that retains all the utility and presence you'd expect from the Jeep name. Inside, the Wagoneer S features a refined, traditional cabin packed with premium materials and modern amenities. Powered by a 100.0-kilowatt-hour battery, it offers up to 303 miles of range on a full charge. For 2025, Jeep also introduced a more affordable Limited trim with 500 horsepower. The 2025 Wagoneer S starts at $67,195, while the high-performance Launch Edition comes in at $72,790—offering remarkable value for an electric SUV that blends power, comfort, and capability. Read Our Review Hyundai Ioniq 9 Photo by: Hyundai Canada 215 Horsepower Price: $60,555 Why We Love It: Hyundai's first electric three-row SUV is hard to fault. While its bold styling may not be for everyone, the Ioniq 9 delivers where it counts: comfort, efficiency, and value—especially depending on how you spec it. Starting at $60,555, the Ioniq 9 offers an impressive 335 miles of range on the base model. The top-tier Calligraphy trim still delivers a solid 311 miles of range, while adding up to 422 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive for a more dynamic drive. Alongside its Kia sibling, the EV9, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 helps position Hyundai Motor Group as a leader in three-row electric SUVs. Read Our Review Kia EV4 Photo by: Brian Silvestro / Motor1 201 Horsepower Price: $40,000 (est.) Why We Love It : If you like the idea of a Tesla Model 3 but prefer something more low-key, the Kia EV4 is a compelling alternative. It has an eye-catching design, a comfortable driving experience, and solid range—all in an affordable package. Expected to start around $40,000 when it launches in 2026, the EV4 will come with two battery options: 58.3 kilowatt-hours or 81.4 kilowatt-hours. While official EPA range estimates are still pending, Kia projects up to 235 miles for the standard battery and around 330 miles for the larger one. Both versions will feature a single permanent-magnet motor powering the front wheels, delivering 201 horsepower and 208 pound-feet of torque. Read Our Review Lucid Gravity Photo by: Lucid Motors 828 Horsepower Price: $96,550 Why We Love It: Lucid's second-ever vehicle is a remarkable achievement. The Gravity is not only one of the fastest and best-handling SUVs on the market, but also one of the most efficient, offering up to 450 miles of range. It holds the title of the fastest-charging EV in America. While its minivan-like profile may not appeal to everyone, the design is sleek and the interior is both futuristic and functional. Thanks to Lucid's clever packaging, the Gravity seats seven comfortably while taking up less space than most traditional three-row SUVs. The main drawbacks stem from Lucid's status as a young automaker. At the launch, test vehicles exhibited build-quality quirks and software bugs, and the company has struggled to ramp up production. It's typical early-adopter territory—but if you're willing to take the leap, it might be worth it. Read Our Review Mercedes-Benz G580 579 Horsepower Price: $162,650 Why We Love It: Judged purely on capability, the electric G-Wagen—the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology—is arguably the best G-Class ever built. With four independent electric motors, it surpasses its gas-powered sibling off-road and can even ford deeper water, thanks to the lack of an air intake. It's a serious tool with serious presence. Those four motors also unlock some wild tricks. There's G-Turn, Mercedes' version of a tank turn, which allows the SUV to spin 360 degrees in place. G-Steer helps reduce the turning radius by manipulating individual wheels, improving maneuverability in tight spaces. And with a 0–60 time of just 4.6 seconds, the electric G is no slouch on pavement either. The trade-off? Range. With an EPA estimate of just 239 miles, the G580 doesn't go as far as some rivals on a single charge. But for those who value capability, innovation, and iconic design, that may be a compromise worth making. Read Our Review Porsche Macan Electric Photo by: Chris Perkins / Motor1 375 Horsepower Price: $80,350 Why We Love It: Porsche's decision to make its best-selling model—the Macan—fully electric isn't without controversy. Slower-than-expected EV adoption has prompted the brand to fast-track a new gas-powered SUV, and the new electric Macan carries a noticeably higher price tag than its predecessor. But set the drama aside, and you'll find an exceptional vehicle underneath. The rear-wheel-drive base model delivers the kind of sharp handling and refined driving experience you'd expect from a Porsche. Build quality is top-tier, and its efficiency is surprisingly impressive for a performance-oriented SUV. If you're willing to embrace the electric transition, the new Macan offers a compelling blend of premium feel, driving enjoyment, and forward-thinking design—just with a steeper entry price. 'Let His Buggy Sit Some More:' Mechanic Gets a Customer Call First-Thing in the Morning. Then He Cancels His $1,300 Order

A mechanic got an unpleasant call from a customer first-thing in the morning—so he cancelled the man's entire $1,300 order. TikTok user RNG Performance ( @redneckgarage1 ) is an Ohio-based mechanic and parts dealer for off-road vehicles, in particular those from Chinese brand CFMoto. He also rebuilds clutches. In a recent video, he explains why he refused service to a customer who was upset with the amount of time it took to get the clutch he ordered delivered, which was resulting in his vehicle spending extra time at the dealership awaiting repair. Stay informed with our newsletter every weekday back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . 'This guy calls this morning as soon as we open,' explains RNG's owner and operator. 'He's giving my wife a hard time. You know what? It's a big order. This guy wants to talk to me that way … I said I was going to stick to the policy and stuff. I changed my mind. I'm gonna let his buggy sit some more at the dealer.' As he speaks, the owner goes onto his computer and processes a refund for the angry customer. 'It's a full, 100 percent refund,' he says. 'I'm just not gonna tolerate this from a customer. Money doesn't mean a dang thing to me.' What Started the Argument The mechanic says, 'All my regular customers know that I work hard to get your stuff out as fast as possible. He knew his belt was on back order. He paid extra shipping to have it shipped when it comes in. That's fine.' He continues, 'But, guys, I build clutches more than anyone in the CFMoto industry. And I'm so busy. I don't trust other people to do what I do, so I do it all. Every clutch that gets purchased—whether it's a complete clutch, a clutch kit, whatever—it all goes through me. When it goes out the door, I want to make sure it's right.' Trending Now 'Third Time's the Charm:' Woman Notices 4 Chunks of Paint Missing From Her White Palisade. Then She Takes It to Hyundai 'This Goes Against All of My Irish Bloodline Superstitions:' Woman Parks Her Car in the Hot Sun. Then She Pops Open Her Umbrella He acknowledges that he has had mishaps in the past, but says he works hard to complete every job in a timely manner and address any issues after the fact. 'I can only work as much as I can work,' he says. 'Let's get into the phone call.' The Infamous Phone Call The video then cuts to a clip of the owner answering the phone earlier in the day. His friendly, informal greeting is met with instant aggression and profanity. The customer indicates (not so politely) that he is ready to get the clutch and belt that he ordered—yesterday. The shop owner insists that there are customers ahead of him and the process is going as quickly as possible. The conversation gets even more heated, with the customer threatening to 'pull up' to the establishment and confront the proprietor in person. 'I paid for separate shipping for a belt,' the customer says. 'And on top of that, you guys took my money two weeks ago for my clutch. I'm getting charged $45 a day to have my equipment and my machine wait for your parts.' The customer says he is a business owner himself and RNG is holding up his business. 'You're making excuses, my boy,' the customer says. The two men continue to argue about how to proceed. While the owner threatens to cancel the entire transaction on numerous occasions, he also indicates that he's willing to prioritize getting the customer's clutch out as soon as possible—if the customer apologizes. At this point, however, it seems the customer is fed up. He now wants the refund, says he's not going to do any business with RNG going forward, and appears to threaten the owner with a face-to-face altercation. Opinions Differ In the comments section, some people took the mechanic's side. But viewers overwhelmingly took the side of the customer in this situation. 'Three weeks?' asked one person. 'I'm with the customer. You seem like you just don't [care] about getting things done in a timely manner. Don't care about money? You might when people stop buying from you.' A second person agreed. 'Bad customer service, created a frustrated customer, and you made a joke out of it,' they wrote. Someone else said, 'I don't care about all the drama. As a business, you need to work on deescalating disgruntled customers. Going back and forth with this guy and matching his energy just makes you look emotional and reactive rather than someone who knows how to manage situations.' Another person agreed. 'I was on your side… until I saw the video,' they wrote. 'If you're busy with this and that, stop making videos until you get caught up. You seem like a good guy, but your mentality has to change.' Of such critics, RNG Performance says in a follow-up , "A lot of you ain't got a clue what you're talking about." In a separate post , he adds, "The boss can do what the boss wants." New Shelby GT500 Caught Testing: Listen to its Supercharged V-8

The GTD won't be the only supercharged S650-generation Ford Mustang. Ford is also working on something else as a follow-up to the 2020-2022 GT500, and it sounds mean. Spy video from Ford Authority shows what looks to be a near-production-ready GT500 prowling around Metro Detroit, with its supercharged V-8 burbling away through a variety of exhaust setups. There's a test car with four rectangular-shaped exhaust pipes, another with four traditional round tailpipes, and one with just two pipes. Ford seems to be running all of these in an exhaust setting that mutes the engine somewhat, but the distinctive V-8 note comes through regardless. You can also hear the car shifting quickly. We expect that this car will use a dual-clutch transmission of some sort. The old GT500 used a seven-speed DCT, while the new GTD uses a rear-mounted eight-speed transaxle. Both come from Tremec and are similar to the unit used in the C8 Corvette. While you can't hear any supercharger whine here, that was true of the last GT500. So, it's reasonable to assume that this car will have the 5.2-liter "Predator" V-8 used in the old GT500 and in the GTD. In the GT500, this engine made 765 horsepower, while the GTD ups it to 815 hp thanks to a smaller pulley and revised intake and exhaust . We're not sure what this new car's output will be, but it's reasonable to expect it to fall between the two. Interestingly, Ford Authority reported last year that Ford might not use the Shelby GT500 name for this car . Ford said previously that it created the Dark Horse name for the current top-trim naturally aspirated Mustang to appeal to a younger audience , so perhaps it's moving away from older names like Shelby, Boss, Mach 1, etc. We'll have to wait to find out. Camouflage obscures a lot of the pertinent details of this new car, but it doesn't look too different from a standard Mustang model. That said, it looks like the fenders are flared out to accommodate the wide tires that have become a modern hi-po Mustang hallmark. We also see some of these cars wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, while others have Pirelli P-Zero Rs. Both ultra-sticky and ready for track work. Given that Ford is testing cars that look very close to production-ready, we shouldn't have to wait long for this car, whatever it's called, to make its debut. And we know it'll sound great.
