Traffic measures in place for gas pipe upgrades
Northern Gas Networks (NGN) said it was replacing the "ageing metal pipework" on The Mile from the junction of Mile End Park to Algarth Road in Pocklington with "more durable plastic pipes".
Temporary traffic lights will last for about four weeks.
NGN said the work would "ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas" for customers living in the area.
Once the work is complete, the temporary lights will move to Yapham Road between the junctions of Garths End and Sherbuttgate Road North.
This final stage is also expected to take about four weeks.
NGN is working with East Riding of Yorkshire Council on the project.
Dave Smales, site manager at NGN, said the works were "vital" in order to "continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Pocklington".
NGN will return to Mile End for further work at the end of September with more details to be announced nearer the time, he added.

Lane on major Buckinghamshire road closed off
A lane on a major High Wycombe road was briefly cordoned off due to the arrival of the emergency services. In the afternoon of Saturday, August 9, fire engines and ambulances were seen southbound on Marlow Hill (the A404). A post on the Thames Valley Incident Alert Facebook page suggested this is in relation to a 'medical emergency'. The emergency services' presence on the hill led to one lane between the A40 and Daws Hill Lane, towards Flackwell Heath, being closed off. This meant drivers had to use the outside lane when on the main road. The closed off road was eventually reopened several hours later. We have contacted Bucks Fire & Rescue for information and a comment.

Latest planned road closures in and around Watford
A stretch of road almost 2.5km long is among the latest planned closures in the Watford area for roadworks. Herts County Council has used the Public Notice Portal to publish its intention to close the lengthy stretch of Harthall Lane, Kings Langley, along with other closures in Watford, Bushey, Abbots Langley and Bedmond. All temporary road closure orders and other restrictions are valid for up to 18 months from the date they come into force, but restrictions will only apply at times shown on signs at or near the relevant locations. Copsewood Road, Watford – temporary closure Herts County Council is intending to make an order to prohibit all vehicles from using Copsewood Road, Watford from its junction with Leasowe Road north-eastwards for a distance of approximately 25m, except for access, to allow utility service works to be carried out. The order, if made, will come into force on August 18. Harthall Lane, Kings Langley – temporary closure The county council is intending to make an order to prevent all vehicles from using Harthall Lane, Kings Langley, from its junction with Toms Lane north-westwards to Bedmond Road south-westwards, south-eastwards and north-eastwards to its junction with Harthall Lane, a distance of approximately 2.41km, except for access, to enable utility service works to be carried out. If made, this order will come into force on August 18. Gallows Hill, Abbots Langley – temporary closure An order is set to be made to prohibit all vehicles from using Gallows Hill, Abbots Langley from its junction with Hill Lane northwards to its junction with Abbots Road, a distance of approximately 360m, except for access, to allow utility service works to take place. This order, if made, will come into force on August 18. High Street and Bell Lane, Bedmond – temporary closure Herts County Council is intending to make an order to prevent all vehicles from using the following lengths of road for utility service works: - High Street, Bedmond from a point in line with the south-western boundary of No.23 High Street northwards for a distance of approximately 61m. - Bell Lane, Bedmond from its junction with High Street eastwards for a distance of approximately 11m. If made, this order will come into force on August 18. Woodfield Rise/Caldecote Gardens, Bushey – temporary closure The county council is set to make an order to prevent all vehicles from using Woodfield Rise/Caldecote Gardens, Bushey from its junction with Little Bushey Lane south-westwards for a distance of approximately 483m, except for access, so utility service works can take place. This order, if made, will come into force on August 18.

DVLA driving licence change takes effect in August affecting thousands of drivers
A major change to UK driving licence rules has officially come into effect in August, allowing thousands of Moldovan motorists living in Great Britain to exchange their national licences for a British one without the need to retake a driving test. The update, announced earlier this year and confirmed by the DVLA, means that from August 1, 2025, eligible drivers from Moldova who become residents in England, Scotland or Wales are able to apply to swap their car driving licence for a UK equivalent through a streamlined process, reports The move follows a newly signed memorandum of understanding between the UK and the Republic of Moldova aimed at simplifying the recognition of driving qualifications between both countries. According to government estimates, approximately 18,000 Moldovan nationals living in Great Britain stand to benefit from the changes. Previously, Moldovan motorists would have been required to take a UK driving test in order to gain a British licence. Under the fresh rules, this will no longer be necessary, provided applicants meet standard licensing criteria and are legally residing in Great Britain. The DVLA has assessed Moldova's driver testing and licensing standards and confirmed they are equivalent to those in the UK. A spokesperson said: 'We are satisfied that car licences issued in Moldova reflect a comparable level of driver competence and road safety understanding. "No concerns have been identified that would compromise the safety of UK roads.' The changes will not apply in Northern Ireland, where driver licensing is a devolved matter handled separately by the DVA. In addition to making it easier for Moldovan nationals to drive legally in the UK, the agreement is reciprocal. Moldovan authorities will now also accept UK-issued licences, including those held by Moldovan citizens who passed their driving tests while living in the UK. The initiative is expected to improve mobility and reduce bureaucratic barriers for residents moving between the two countries, while maintaining high road safety standards.
