Rod Stewart's record breaking hope after health issues force him to cancel gigs

Daily Record3 hours ago

Sir Rod Stewart is set to take to the Legend stage at Glastonbury next weekend despite a run of recent health setbacks. The Maggie May icon, 80, caused concern amongst his fans last week when he was forced to cancel a run of gigs due to illness, throwing his much-anticipated set at the iconic UK festival into doubt.
Rod axed six shows, four of which were in Nevada including two at Caesars Palace, as well as two in California. Sir Rod took to Instagram to say he was under 'strict doctor's orders' to rest his voice as he apologised for having to reschedule. He added: "I have to cancel and reschedule my next six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu.
"So sorry my friends. I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I'll be back on stage and will see you soon."
But anyone who has tickets for Glastonbury and is worried they might not see the legend in action in his Sunday, June 29 slot should be rest assured the megastar is at the top of his game when it comes to health and fitness, despite his recent issues with the flu, and he's even hoping to break a world-record for sprinting soon.
The Celtic-daft star has got a race track in the garden of his Essex home and has been practicing furiously. He told AARP magazine: "I got it [his 100m time] down to 19 seconds by learning how to push off. I'm going to try and do 17 seconds, which I think is a world record for an 80 year old."
Rod says he likes to keep himself in shape, and revealed he's worked with the same personal trainer for the past 38 years. He added: "I keep myself very fit, I played soccer all my life – don't so much anymore, because I had a knee replacement. And I've always had a trainer – same guy for 38 years. I have an indoor pool, massive gym, golf course, everything."
Rod also revealed that he is inspired by another legendary crooner when it comes to his strict fitness regime - the late Frank Sinatra.
He said: "We do a lot of underwater training, where the trainer throws a brick into the pool and I have to dive in, push the brick to the end of the pool, and come up. Frank Sinatra once said to me 'Rod, the secret to being a great singer is having powerful lungs. Do lots of underwater swimming, where you hold your breath'."
The dad of eight recently announced that he will reunite with his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood for his Glastonbury gig, and he expressed some dissatisfaction at the allocated length of his set - showing he's more than ready to put on a great show for the crowds.
Speaking on the That Peter Crouch Podcast, he told the former footballer he was only due to play for an hour and a quarter on the Pyramid Stage.
"I've asked them 'Please, another 15 minutes' because I play for over two hours every night and it's nothing," he said.

Many people have donned their fanciest maxi dresses for the racing extravaganza. It's no wonder people have dressed to the nines for the occasion, as each year the royal family flocks to Ascot to witness the action. It was announced, however, that the Princess of Wales has pulled out of Royal Ascot as she continues her cancer recovery. It is understood the Princess of Wales 'is disappointed' not to go but 'has to find the right balance' on returning to full time duty. Kate, 43, was previously listed by Royal Ascot as arriving in the carriage procession with Prince William - who is still attending. She attended Trooping the Colour and Order of the Garter in recent days plus a visit to V&A East Storehouse last week. While Kate has skipped Ascot, her mum Carole Middleton is in attendance, with daughter-in-law Alizée Thevenet, who is married to Kate's brother James. A number of celebrities have been seen at the Berkshire racecourse, including Made In Chelsea alum Georgia Toffolo, who was back for a second day. Today she wore a cream CHATS by maxi dress and a red Awon Golding Millinery hat. Women must wear a dress or skirt falling just above the knee or longer, with shoulder straps a minimum width of 1 inch and hats are compulsory. The Queen Anne Enclosure offers a more relaxed dress code, while the Windsor Enclosure is the most relaxed, with no formal dress code but smart attire is encouraged. Royal Ascot was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne who, when riding out from Windsor Castle, came across a piece of land 'ideal for horses to gallop at full stretch' and thus Ascot Racecourse was born. 24 Lady Victoria Hervey also opted for a floral dress at the racecourse Credit: Getty 24 Guests appeared in high spirits as they arrived at Royal Ascot Credit: PA The first Royal Meeting took place at Ascot in 1768 and it is now Britain's most popular race meeting, welcoming in excess of 250,000 racegoers across five days. Each morning the gates open at 10.30am each day, ready for the anticipated first race which kicks off at 2.30pm. There are then seven races throughout the day, the last of which commencing at 6.10pm. And, of course, 2pm on each day of racing is the royal procession. As well as the racing, there's also lots of other things for the lucky guests to enjoy. It's predicted that the fine dining curated by 350 chefs will serve up 220,000 hand-crafted afternoon tea cakes, 7,300 Angus steaks and 3,000 kilos of salmon over the five days. What's more, the Royal Meeting will also serve 220,000 finger sandwiches and 10,000 punnets of mixed berries. In the Queen Anne Enclosure, guests are able to tuck into mouthwatering steaks at 1768 Grill by Argentinian restaurant Gaucho. On the drinks front, 65,000 bottles of Champagne and 100,000 bottles of wine are expected to be consumed. In 2023, approximately 400 helicopters and 1,000 limousines descended on Royal Ascot, with an average of 60,000 racegoers each day. /ascot

Katie Price's boozy Ibiza nights out with Chloe Ferry after bankruptcy admission

Katie Price has been making the most of her trip to Ibiza, partying at the popular Ocean Beach resort with the likes of Conor McGregor and Wayne Lineker in her downtime Katie Price has certainly ensured all eyes would be on her while lapping up the sun in Ibiza. The former model, who recently explained she's almost bankrupt again, has been enjoying every aspect of the party island, including the huge nightclubs and stunning villas the resort has to offer. The former model turned TV personality, 47, has been documenting her wild trip with her followers on platforms including Instagram and Snapchat as she hit up the major clubs on the White Isle. So far, Katie has visited clubs including Pacha and Ocean Beach, where she was seen posing with Wayne Lineker. ‌ But while she's only been on the island a "couple of days", the star has certainly ensured she made the most of her trip and enjoyed a well-deserved girls' night with Geordie Shore stars Chloe Ferry and Abbie Holborn. But while most club-goers in Ibiza mingle amongst the sold-out crowds, Katie and her pals had the perfect spot – in a private booth alongside the DJ. ‌ In true Pricey style, the former model struck up a series of poses for her social media posts while enjoying the live music and atmosphere in the super club. Poking fun at her playful personality, Katie and Chloe created a viral social media video about their friendship, joking: "Maturity leaving our bodies when we see each other," as #thatPOWER by and Justin Bieber played in the background. The pair posed for a series of snaps with one another, showcasing their glistening tans from their lavish getaway. Katie looked sensational in a figure-hugging brown jumpsuit, which highlighted her slimmed-down physique. Her now signature glossy raven locks were scraped back into a high ponytail, showcasing her chiselled cheekbones. Her surgically enhanced breasts stood out in the tiny outfit, which left very little to the imagination as it revealed her huge torso tattoo. Meanwhile, reality star Chloe exuded glamour in a barely-there white lace outfit, which struggled to contain her own surgically enhanced breasts. Chloe posed up a storm in the lace number while wearing her caramel tresses in loose waves, cascading freely over her shoulder and down her chest. Katie, who has previously been declared bankrupt twice and was recently accused of not paying £12.5k worth of debts back a month ago, poked fun at her financial woes while enjoying her holiday. ‌ The glamour model and her friend headed out for an eye-wateringly expensive meal while on the island and it appears that she was in a playful mood. Documenting her trip, she said: "We came to slay!!! OMG, that spaghetti nearly bankrupted me again!" But while she's been enjoying herself, some fans have expressed their concern for Katie after she stripped down to a bikini as she enhanced her tan. Never one to shy away from showing off some skin, Katie showcased her slim waist in the bikini snap as she tied her black hair up in a messy bun and covered her makeup-free complexion with a pair of oversized sunglasses. But fans couldn't help but express their concern, with one writing: "Soo soo sad to see Katie like this.. I hope she goes and gets the help she needs.. she isn't well at all." Another said: "Katie you don't look well. I hope everything is okay. Please stop complimenting her." However, one fan disagreed with those airing concerns, as they responded: "Katie's fine people are so judgmental just chill she's happy enjoying her summer."

Rod Stewart opens up on huge cost of playing Glastonbury as he reveals festival bosses' major rule

He's performing as this year's Legends slot act, joining a long list of iconic acts who've taken on the prestigious role OOH LA LA Rod Stewart opens up on huge cost of playing Glastonbury as he reveals festival bosses' major rule Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SIR Rod Stewart has lifted the lid on exactly how much he is getting paid to play at Glastonbury this year - as well as how much money he'll lose. The rock icon, 80, is set to return to Worthy Farm for the first time in decades, having last performed on the Pyramid Stage 23 years ago. In a new interview, the Maggie May singer opened up about the cost of making his Glasto comeback. Sir Rod has been touring in the United States, a post that has meant his crew, staging, and equipment are all currently on the other side of the Atlantic. And the logistics of transporting everything back for the UK festival won't come cheap. He claimed he would receive £120,000 from festival bosses but it will set him back £300,000 to take to the stage early in the evening on Sunday, June 29. Speaking to Radio Times, Sir Rod said: "It was about eight months ago when I was asked to do it, maybe a little longer. But it didn't fit with my schedule because I've got to bring everybody back from America. "It's going to cost me £300,000 to do it and they only pay you about 120,000 quid. So it's going to cost me." Despite the financial hit, Sir Rod is clearly not fazed by the expense. For him, the chance to take on the Glastonbury Legends slot is well worth the price. He added that it 'doesn't matter' if he ends up out of pocket. Chart-topping Scots DJ dies suddenly as devastated music stars pay tributes Sir Rod also revealed that he will only play for one hour and 15 minutes. He said that he "begged" festival bosses for an extra 15 minutes as he usually performs for two hours but his request was knocked back. This year's Glastonbury headliners include The 1975, Neil Young, Olivia Rodrigo, Charli XCX, Doechii, The Prodigy and Alanis Morissette. Sir Rod was recently forced to cancel six more shows from his US tour after coming down with the flu. In a post on Instagram last week, the hitmaker announced that he will now be cancelling four US tour dates and rescheduling two others, all of which were meant to take place over the next eight days. He wrote: "So sorry my friends. I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. "I'll be back on stage and will see you soon." The Grammy-winner signed off with a heartbroken emoji. His next slide confirmed the four cancelled dates are three performances at the Colosseum Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, and one at Lake Tahoe Amphitheater at Caeser's Republic in Stateline, Nevada. He is rescheduling two dates at casinos in California. Sir Rod has also axed a number of dates at his Colosseum residency over the last week, with his scheduled June 2nd and June 5th performances. The multiple cancellations come after he was put on vocal rest between performances last month. His string of performances come after Sir Rod noted he was planning to stop large-scale world tours at the end of this year. However, he vowed to keep performing, just at more intimate venues.
