BABYMETAL is a Japanese band that blends heavy metal with J-pop idol music. The three original members of the band, consisting of Su-metal, Moametal, and Yuimetal, created a unique style known as 'kawaii metal.' They gained global attention with viral hits like 'Gimme Chocolate!!' and 'Karate', showcasing intense choreography and energetic performances.
They have performed with legends like Metallica, Guns N' Roses, and Rob Halford of Judas Priest. In 2016, they became the first Japanese band to headline Wembley Arena in London. Airbnb experiences themed after K-pop boy band Seventeen to be rolled out
Airbnb collaborates with K-pop group Seventeen as Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky emphasises Seoul as a strategic market. Photo: Handout In short-term lodging, experience could matter just as much or more than the spaces themselves, which is why a collaboration with a K-pop boy band such as Seventeen is beneficial, said Airbnb co-founder and chief executive Brian Chesky. The collaboration included replicating the set of Seventeen's music video Love, Money, Fame (2024) into real-life accommodation, allowing Carats – as Seventeen fans are dubbed – to experience a unique stay. The props from the music video were also used to furnish the Seventeen-inspired Airbnb room. At a press conference in Seoul on June 4, the vacation rental website's head honcho recalled working with the South Korean group in 2024, a project he said had proved to be hugely popular with not only Seventeen fans, but also Airbnb travellers as a whole, because of the unique experience it offered. 'We plan to roll out Seventeen-themed Airbnb programmes in major cities,' Chesky said at the press conference, without identifying where. This followed a meet-and-greet event for 60 Seventeen fans where the K-pop act were one-day-only special Airbnb hosts, in celebration of their 10th anniversary. Seventeen Airbnb Experience, as the fan gathering was called, was a demonstration of Airbnb Originals, a celebrity-hosted exclusive experience that is part of Airbnb Experiences. Airbnb Originals was launched in May to focus on unique activities run by local hosts. The programme is to help travellers experience their local surroundings with local hosts, according to Chesky. 'The biggest asset in people's lives is really not their home – it's their time. What if people could share not only their space, but their time with someone else?' he asked. The latest trip to Seoul by the Airbnb CEO is part of his global tour to promote Airbnb Experiences. He has made stops in Paris, Berlin, Milan and Tokyo, and emphasised that Seoul is a strategic market he finds deeply inspirational. According to Airbnb South Korea, bookings on the platform in the country in 2024 soared 20% from the previous year. The make-up of international visitors to South Korea is increasingly becoming diverse, the company added without elaboration. – The Korea Herald/Asia News Network

(Video) Mandopop Icon Jay Chou Mobbed By Fans While Sightseeing In Japan
It can be hard to travel comfortably when you're as popular as Jay Chou (周杰伦). The Mandopop icon has been travelling around Japan recently, but unfortunately, his trip hasn't been the most peaceful. Jay and his wife, Hannah Quinlivan (昆凌), recently visited Kyoto for work. While the couple were there, they took the opportunity to do some sightseeing. Joining the pair are Jay Chou's staff members and Japanese singer-actor Tomohisa Yamashita (山下 智久), who is a good friend of the Taiwanese singer. Together, the group went around the city, visiting popular tourist spots, including local temples and shrines. Given the popularity of the Mandopop and J-pop icons, a crowd will begin to form wherever the two go. Some fans even started following the stars and mobbing them as they walked down the streets of Kyoto. Unfortunately, the mobbing got so intense that Jay's makeup artist tripped and broke his leg. The 46-year-old singer went on Instagram to share the news and urged fans to maintain a safe distance in public to avoid another accident. According to reports, the makeup artist broke two bones and had to get a cast for his leg. Thankfully, it seemed he's recovering well despite the incident and is even cracking jokes about his fall. Jay also tried to make fun of the situation, jokingly asking fans if they had a photo of his makeup artist tripping. His odd request amused fans, who noted that it highlights their close friendship. Jay also didn't seem too pressed by the fans in Kyoto because he even stopped to take photos of some of them. In some videos, the star also appeared calm despite being surrounded by people. However, the mobbing did get a little crazy, and the crowds even gathered in front of a local restaurant where Jay and Yamashita Tomohisa were dining. Police officers were even called to the scene to maintain order. Many netizens have reacted to the situation, mostly praising Jay for remaining calm amidst the chaos. However, some urged the public not to crowd the star and allow him to enjoy his trip. What are your thoughts on this?
