HH Sayyid Dr Kamil Fahad Al Said to honour winners of the Muscat Municipality Design Competition 2025 on Tuesday
The award ceremony will take place on the morning of Tuesday, 8 July 2025, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Shatti Al Qurum (Al Thuraya Hall). The event will be attended by a distinguished group of experts from the judging panel, as well as several CEOs of major real estate development companies in the Sultanate.
The Muscat Municipality Design Competition serves as a premier platform for the exchange of visionary ideas, with five leading international architectural design firms competing for the award. Each firm will present its concept for a multi-use civic building that harmoniously blends Omani identity with contemporary global urban design, integrating the latest sustainable technologies.
In preparation for the ceremony, Muscat Municipality has designated Monday, 7 July 2025, for the project presentation sessions. This provides a dedicated platform for the finalists to present their designs before the judging panel. The initiative reflects the Municipality's ongoing commitment to strengthening Muscat's visual identity, promoting sustainability, and encouraging architectural innovation that responds to both people and place.

By aligning renewable innovation with operational reliability, we are redefining the standards for sustainable cloud and data services, while advancing a technology landscape grounded in environmental responsibility.' The first phase of the project will see the installation of solar panels in the wadi area and atop the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) 4 building in Rusayl to capture optimal sunlight and maximize electricity generation. The generated power will be channeled directly into existing electrical panels and switchgear, providing an estimated 1.4 MW of clean energy for ODP's operations. Phase Two will extend coverage by an additional 400 kW through the installation of solar infrastructure in the facility's car parking area, further reinforcing ODP's renewable energy potential. In addition to Rusayl, ODP's upcoming state-of-the-art data center in Firq, Nizwa, has been purpose-built with solar infrastructure integrated into its very foundation. Designed to deliver a total power output of 4.4 MW and to accommodate over 500 racks, with the solar initiative the facility will, from inception, generate an estimated 350 kW of that capacity from clean, solar-powered electricity, thereby advancing ODP's long-term strategy for environmentally responsible, next-generation data services. By embedding sustainability into its development roadmap, ODP continues to solidify its standing at the forefront of the region's transition to a green, circular economy. Dubai construction inspections surge 36% in 2025 as sustainability efforts hit new milestone
Dubai Municipality has ramped up its oversight of the emirate's building sector, completing more than 25,000 field inspections in the first half of 2025 — a 36 per cent jump compared to the same period last year. The inspections covered more than 18,800 active construction sites with a combined built-up area of more than 36 million square metres, up 11 per cent year-on-year, reflecting Dubai's continued expansion in real estate and infrastructure. The Municipality reported a 96 per cent compliance rate, underscoring its push to ensure safety, quality, and sustainability in line with Dubai's ambition to be the world's smartest and most sustainable city in construction. Dubai construction inspections Between January and June, 1,669 building completion certificates were issued, up 30 per cent from 2024, adding nearly 2 million square metres of new residential, commercial, and industrial space. This included: 1,484 villas 74 multi-storey buildings 60 industrial facilities Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, said: 'Dubai Municipality places great emphasis on precise engineering oversight of construction activities, considering it a key tool to regulate the sector and elevate its standards, in line with our unwavering commitment to developing it into the world's smartest and most sustainable. Sustainability remains central to Dubai's construction strategy. In the first half of 2025, more than 1.5 million cubic metres of green concrete were used, while 16.4 million cubic metres of soil were recycled — equivalent to filling 6,500 Olympic swimming pools. The Municipality also issued 4,222 sand transport and supply permits and approved 1,126 free sand requests for Emirati citizens building private villas. These measures form part of a wider vision to streamline building procedures, enhance governance, and maintain legislative flexibility, reinforcing the emirate's appeal as a global investment hub in the construction sector.
