UniHawk's Learning Lab blends education, exploration and experience to support career planning
Building on the success of UniHawk's study abroad counselling for students in the GCC region, A Learning Lab was established to provide a complementary suite of professional discovery and development initiatives that go beyond traditional academics. The platform adopts a progressive approach that incorporates socialisation, externalisation, combination, and internalisation, to unlock their latent potential and guide them towards their goals.
On the agenda for the forthcoming season is a new wave of the prestigious Harvard Youth Lead the Change (YLC) Conference, which started in Dubai in 2022 and will be staged for the first time in Oman and Bahrain this July. Led by students from the Ivy League college, the event develops participants' leadership, empathy, and problem-solving skills through a program of presentations, workshops, case-studies, and project-based exercises that empower students to recognize their own strengths and define their career goals.
Building on the success of the Harvard YLC, A Learning Lab has curated the Harvard Business and Leadership Bootcamp, which is set to take place in Dubai in June and in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh in early July. The programme is designed to help students explore various career paths, build essential skills like leadership, analytical reasoning, and risk analysis, and gain hands-on experience. For aspiring technology leaders, the Cambridge Tech Lead Bootcamp will be hosted in Qatar, Jeddah and Kuwait in July, providing an interactive program that blends leadership principles with cutting-edge AI, data-driven decision-making, and agile methodologies to prepare participants for real-world challenges.
Alongside the leadership development programs, A Learning Lab has pioneered a range of virtual courses, where high school students can explore specific career paths such as business consulting, medicine, law and entrepreneurship. Building on these courses, A Learning Lab also offers students the opportunity to step into the real-world practice of these professions, with seven virtual shadowing programmes delivered in collaboration with leading UK businesses and organisations. The platform also enables students to go beyond their comfort zone to get first-hand global experiences through overseas tours to explore top universities, engage in community service, and immerse themselves in diverse cultures.
Speaking about the value of engaging in different experiences to help with career planning, Varun Jain, founder of UniHawk and A Learning Lab, said, "We know from our years of counselling young people that it is never too soon for high school students to start preparing for university. The opportunity to explore different career paths through courses and work shadowing helps to empower them to identify their interests early on, so they can start to prepare their route into higher education. Through the various youth development conferences, which we have staged for the past three years, we have seen how students can build their confidence, discard any self-doubt, and develop the skills to succeed. We are delighted to be bringing these programs to new locations across the GCC this Summer, to give more students the opportunity to benefit from this transformational experience."

The 3 rd conference on peace and development for the horn of Africa opens at Four Points hotel, Kampala
The Conference in an initiative of the People's Republic of China and brings together regional countries in the Horn of Africa—Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. He reiterated China's commitment to actively engage with regional countries in various initiatives that promote peace and development. He said China will continue to strengthen cooperation with Africa in areas such as military assistance and trade, counter-terrorism, landmines eradication and military personnel training to jointly maintain security and stability in the region. Mr. Xue Bing said China's engagement with the region on peace and development will be anchored on three pillars: first, the need to uphold dialogue for peace and safeguard universal security; secondly, the need to explore the potential for cooperation and realize common prosperity; and third, the need to deepen exchange of experience in governance and safeguard international justice and fairness. Recognizing the role of economic cooperation in promoting peace and development, China is ready to negotiate and sign the Agreement on China-Africa Economic Partnership for Shared Development. China will also expand the zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent tariff lines to 53 African countries. China will also encourage more Chinese Enterprises to invest in the region, increase the added value of their products and localization to boost economies and create jobs. During the Conference, delegates will review the achievements of FOCAC and discuss related issues such as connectivity and infrastructure; development cooperation and industrial development; climate resilience and food security' as well as multilateralism and global governance. The weekend's season finale of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship marked the opening of the new 25,000sqm purpose-built space, built by McLaren Construction, expanding the venue's existing world-class facilities by a further 25% – totalling 125,000sqm (1.3m sqft). Developed due to growing demand from the UK, Europe and North America, the expansion forms part of a wider £350 million investment programme from ADNEC Group in London's business tourism economy, and forms part of Excel's mission to become the best event destination in the world. Offering stunning views of London's skyline, the new facilities include an expanded International Convention Centre – allowing Excel and London to compete for a some of the largest congresses in Europe – together with ultra-modern exhibition halls, conference spaces and meeting rooms. Built to leading BREEAM sustainability standards, the expansion includes new public green spaces, an enhanced waterfront for pedestrians and cyclists and, like the entirety of Excel, uses 100% renewable energy. In addition, the construction process saved more than 11,000kg of CO2e by using Cemfree, an ultra-low carbon masonry mortar. China proposes global AI co-operation organisation
China proposed a new global artificial intelligence co-operation organisation amid a patchwork of regulations among countries, as Beijing's competition with the US over the critical technology heats up. Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Saturday called for an international framework to regulate AI as its governance is fragmented, he said at the opening of the annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. 'Global AI governance is still fragmented. Countries have great differences, particularly in terms of areas such as regulatory concepts, institutional rules,' Mr Li said. 'We should strengthen co-ordination to form a global AI governance framework that has broad consensus as soon as possible.' China's proposal comes just days after US President Donald Trump unveiled a three-pillar strategy that his administration refers to as America's AI Action Plan, after much anticipation from US technology companies. Accelerating artificial intelligence innovation, building AI infrastructure in the US and leading in AI diplomacy are the strategy's three main planks. The plan to export US AI technologies, for example through international data centre initiatives, may help the US to gain influence as other countries seek to join the race to provide computational power for AI. Hypothetically, it could also give the US a competitive edge over China, which also aims to be a dominant AI player. Beijing and Washington are locked in a rivalry with AI shaping up as a key battleground between the world's two biggest economies. An 'exclusive game' During the three-day World Artificial Intelligence Conference on Saturday, Mr Li said that AI could become an 'exclusive game' for a few nations and companies. 'Currently, key resources and capabilities are concentrated in a few countries and a few enterprises. If we engage in technological monopoly, controls and restrictions, AI will become an exclusive game for a small number of countries and enterprises,' Mr Li said. Going forward, China will seek to propel AI development in the Global South, Mr Li said, according to a Bloomberg report. China said it is considering Shanghai as the headquarters of the proposed global AI co-operation centre. Ma Zhaoxu, China's Vice Foreign Minister, told a gathering of representatives from more than 30 countries, including Russia, South Africa, Qatar, South Korea and Germany, that China wanted the organisation to promote pragmatic co-operation in AI and was considering putting its headquarters in Shanghai, Reuters reported. China's AI and semi-conductor sectors are showing strong growth, despite US export controls, according to a June report by Jefferies, an investment banking and capital market firm based in New York. Huawei debuts AI computing system At the same conference on Saturday, China's Huawei Technologies showed off an AI computing system, as the technology giant aims to capture market share in the country's growing AI sector. The CloudMatrix 384 system made its first public debut at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. Semiconductor research group SemiAnalysis in April called it "China's Answer to Nvidia GB200 NVL72", the US chipmaker's most advanced system-level product currently available in the market. "This solution competes directly with the GB200 NVL72, and in some metrics is more advanced than Nvidia's rack scale solution. The engineering advantage is at the system level, not just at the chip level, with innovation at the networking, optics, and software layers," SemiAnalysis said in its April report.
