When the Cityzens suffered an off year last season it finally appeared time for Arsenal to ascend to the throne - until Arne Slot's Liverpool came out of nowhere to relegate the Gunners to another runner-up finish.
Salah and Van Dijk will be hoping for more of the same this year, although Rice is holding out hope that this is Arsenal's time.

Arsenal set to hijack Tottenham's move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze
ARSENAL ARE set to hijack north London rivals Tottenham's pursuit of Eberechi Eze as they await news on Kai Havertz's knee injury. As late as Tuesday, Spurs appeared to be in the driving seat for the forward, with talks progressing over a deal for the 27-year-old. Advertisement However, the PA news agency understands the Gunners are now exploring a move, with reports suggesting the England international prefers a switch to Mikel Arteta's side. Their interest has accelerated after Havertz was forced off in Sunday's victory over Manchester United, although sources insist it is still too early to give a prognosis on the Germany international. Eze, whose £68 million (€78.5 million) release clause expired on Friday, played 84 minutes of the weekend draw at Chelsea and trained on Wednesday ahead of Palace's Conference League play-off at home to Fredrikstad, with head coach Oliver Glasner insisting he and captain Marc Guehi, a target for Liverpool, would start the European tie. 'Before Chelsea, I think many of you were surprised that Marc and Ebs started and played almost the whole game,' he said. 'Most of you will be surprised that they will start again tomorrow because of all the rumours. But again, they are committed.' Eze was released by Arsenal as a 13-year-old.

Newcastle make concrete 40m bid for Brentford star amid Isak saga twist
Newcastle have come back with a beefed-up offer of £40million in total for Brentford's Yoane Wissa, as they ramp up their hunt for attacking reinforcements amidst the Alexander Isak drama. Isak, 25, continues to be an ambitious target for Liverpool ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline, with the Premier League champions already having one substantial offer for the Sweden international turned down. However, following Isak's explosive public statement on Tuesday night, it remains uncertain whether he will still be a Newcastle player beyond this month. The Magpies were already on the lookout for attackers after Callum Wilson left earlier this summer, and Wissa, 28, has emerged as a prime target following his outstanding 2024-25 season for Brentford. And after seeing an initial offer of £25m rejected last week, Newcastle have now lodged an improved proposal consisting of £35m with a further £5m in add-ons as they bid to wrap up a deal for the DR Congo star. However, The Athletic report that said proposal has promptly been rejected with Newcastle still some way short of Brentford's demands. Wissa is desperate to force a move and did not feature in their Premier League opener on Saturday. He also removed all Brentford-related content from his Instagram account over the weekend as the saga involving him and the Bees turns toxic. Even if Newcastle are successful in their pursuit of Wissa, it is unlikely that his arrival alone would lead to Isak getting the move he desires. (Image:) In a statement shared via Instagram on Tuesday night, Isak broke his silence on the saga that has dominated the narrative on Tyneside this summer, insisting "promises have been broken" and "trust has been lost" between himself and the club. Newcastle, though, issued a response of their own and are prepared to stand firm on their £150m valuation of the player. They said: "We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening. We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer. "We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. "We do not foresee those conditions being met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates."
