Mysuru: Cricket lovers in Mysuru can finally see their dream of watching international cricket matches come true, thanks to the efforts of Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.
The process of granting land approval for a long-stalled sports complex has received a renewed boost. The state cabinet has now approved the necessary land to be allocated for the cricket stadium in Huyilalu village of Ilavala hobli in Mysuru. Yaduveer Wadiyar, who has been continuously advocating for this project as the MP for Mysuru, expressed his satisfaction at the recent developments.
In a statement released to the press, Yaduveer Wadiyar mentioned the excitement to fulfill the dreams of Mysureans to witness international cricket matches in the cultural capital. He highlighted that the construction of a cricket ground by the Karnataka State Cricket Association had been on hold for several years, but now has been reignited.
He also noted that he had met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Mysuru District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevapppa, Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, and Chief Secretary Shalini Rajanish to push for this project. Their support was crucial in making this long-awaited dream a reality. The cabinet decision during a special meeting in Chamarajanagar to provide the required land for the stadium was welcomed as a significant achievement for Mysuru.
Yaduveer reaffirmed that the first phase of land approval has been completed, and he will ensure that land acquisition and other necessary works proceed swiftly. 'Our primary goal is to realize the dreams of Mysureans. I am committed to taking all necessary steps to make the cricket stadium a reality in our cultural capital. Let's all join hands and work towards this goal,' said the MP.

K'taka HC relief for state cricket body officials in stampede case
Bengaluru The Karnataka high court on Friday restrained the Bengaluru police from arresting the top brass of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in connection with the June 4 stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which left 11 dead and over 50 injured. Granting interim protection from arrest till June 16, Justice SR Krishna Kumar directed that no 'precipitative action' be taken against KSCA President Raghuram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, and Treasurer ES Jairam, who are among the accused in one of three FIRs registered suo motu by the Bengaluru police over the tragedy. The court however, directed the petitioners to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, and barred them from leaving its jurisdiction. The FIR, registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station in Bengaluru, names the KSCA management for alleged negligence during the crowd-control disaster that unfolded as thousands gathered to greet the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team following its first-ever IPL title win. It also charges them under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. In their petition, the KSCA officials claimed that the FIR was a 'knee-jerk, politically motivated' action spurred by public outrage and state government pressure. 'There is absolutely no wrong that can be attributed to the petitioner committee or its office bearers,' stated the plea, adding that despite offering independent compensation to victims, the KSCA was being 'subjected to undeserved misery.' The petition also took strong exception to public remarks made by chief minister Siddaramaiah, alleging that he had directed the police to arrest KSCA officials. 'The media carries commanding statements by the Hon'ble Chief Minister directing the police to arrest the accused. The police have got on their toes pursuant to the same, in utter violation of the law,' the petition read. Senior advocate Ashok Haranahalli, appearing for KSCA, argued that no criminal offence had been made out and the FIR was vitiated as it was registered by police officers who had since been suspended. He pointed out that the state government had already instituted three inquiries -- a magisterial probe, a judicial commission headed by retired Justice Michael Cunha, and a CID investigation. However, advocate general Shashi Kiran Shetty opposed the quashing plea, arguing that the investigation must be allowed to proceed. While assuring the court that the police had no immediate plans to arrest the petitioners, Shetty cautioned that arrests might become necessary depending on the outcome of the parallel inquiries. 'Whatever the allegations, the police must be allowed to proceed. We have no intention of arresting the petitioners right now, but we must file objections and the investigation should not be stalled,' he said. Shetty further questioned the timing of the petition, noting the haste with which the KSCA approached the court 'even before the ink had dried' on the FIR. Shetty informed the court that along with KSCA officials, the FIR named three employees of the event management firm DNA Entertainment and that RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale had already been arrested. On its part, the court clarified that it had no intention of interfering with or staying any of the three ongoing investigations but deemed it appropriate to grant the petitioners brief protection. 'If they are arrested, it will affect their constitutional rights,' Justice Krishna Kumar observed. 'Without prejudice, respondents (police) are directed to not take any precipitative action against P2, 3, 4 (petitioners) subject to condition that petitioner cooperates with investigation/inquiry,' the court ordered. It also took up a separate plea by RCB marketing head Sosale challenging his arrest. He was apprehended at 4:30 am on Friday from the domestic terminal of Kempegowda International Airport as he was allegedly attempting to flee to Dubai, according to the AG. Sosale's lawyer, senior advocate Sandesh Chowta, argued that the arrest was illegal and politically motivated. The court posted the matter for further hearing on Monday, June 9. The June 4 stampede occurred when crowds surged toward the stadium gates following unverified rumours that entry to the celebration event would be free. The felicitation programme had been organised by Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd, with logistical support from the KSCA. The high court is also hearing a suo motu petition seeking broader systemic accountability in the wake of the tragedy. That matter is scheduled to be heard again on June 10.

Top cop's suspension over Bengaluru stampede draws flak from ex-officers, opposition
The Karnataka government's decision to suspend Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda following the June 4 stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has drawn sharp criticism from former police officers and opposition leaders, who described the move as hasty, unjust, and politically motivated. Dayananda, who held the city's top police post until June 5, was suspended on Thursday by the state home department for alleged lapses in managing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL victory celebrations. The stampede, which took place as crowds surged outside the stadium to attend the felicitation event organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), left 11 people dead and over 50 injured. According to the official suspension order, RCB's CEO formally notified the commissioner's office on June 3 about the parade scheduled for the following day. The government said Dayananda failed to respond in writing, nor did he take adequate steps to manage the expected turnout, despite having prior knowledge. We are upset as IPS and commissioners fraternity. Mistakes are bound to happen but reactions can't follow this way,' he added. Retired IPS officer Bhaskar Rao, another former commissioner, went further in his condemnation, accusing the state's leadership of using the police as scapegoat to deflect public anger. 'The suspension of Bengaluru City police commissioner is the darkest day in the history of Karnataka Police,' Rao wrote. 'Everyone in Karnataka knows that it is the uncontrollable deputy chief minister who orchestrated the death march and is the main culprit,' he said. Taking a dig at the government, he added: 'No chief minister has become as helpless, cowardly, nervous and panicky. The government has blood on its hands and now has lost its mind too. The government is now in disaster.' Similar concerns were echoed by former commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji, who called the decision 'harsh' and questioned the selective action against police officers. 'I would like to say that this is an irresponsible government. The government should work with officials by taking them into confidence. The government should be ashamed. The chief secretary, home secretary and other secretaries are also responsible — why haven't they been suspended?' he said. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka also questioned the motives behind the suspensions, citing an internal power struggle in the ruling party. 'DCM DK Shivakumar said that the police had warned of the danger in advance and that the police were not responsible. Now the CM Siddaramaiah has suddenly suspended several senior police officers, including the Bangalore Police Commissioner,' Ashoka wrote on X. Union minister and senior Janata Dal (United) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Friday slammed the Karnataka government for the 'blunder' of suspending senior police officers following the stampede in Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy stadium, claiming that while the police had warned about any possible mishaps beforehand but the state government went against the advise to use the IPL trophy for their image. He claimed that after the incident occurred, the government blamed the police for its 'failure,' but a failure of the police also means a failure of the state government. 'Yesterday's decision taken by this government about the suspension of five senior police officers is another blunder made by this government. The entire fault lies with the government. To build their image by misusing this IPL trophy, both CM and DCM have taken their own decision, going against the advice of the police. After this incident occurred, the government blamed the police for this failure. Failure of the police also means the failure of the government only,' Kumaraswamy told reporters in New Delhi.
