Hosur (Tamil Nadu), Aug 20 (PTI) Chandigarh golfer Yuvraj Sandhu produced a second-round score of four-under 67 to extend his lead to two shots at the PGTI Players Championship here on Wednesday.
PGTI Order of Merit leader and last week's winner Sandhu (63-67), the overnight leader by one shot, moved his total to 12-under 130 at the halfway stage.
Olympian and Pune golfer Udayan Mane (67-65) returned the day's lowest score of 65 to leapfrog eight spots to tied second place at 10-under 132 .
Nepal's Subash Tamang (64-68) continued in tied second place after shooting a 68 in round two at the Clover Greens Golf Course & Resort near Hosur in Tamil Nadu.
The cut was declared at one-over 143. Fifty-seven professionals and one amateur made the cut.
Bengaluru-based teenager Veer Ganapathy was the only amateur to make the cut. He was placed tied 21st at a total of three-under 139.
Sandhu, a three-time winner this season on the PGTI, had an up and down front-nine as he collected three birdies and bogeys each.
However, the 28-year-old international winner made amends on the back-nine by picking up four birdies to power ahead of the rest.
Sandhu had a good day with the wedges and drove the Par-4 15th green to set up a two putt for birdie there.
'I had a late finish in round one and the travel time back to my hotel was a lot. Then somehow, I didn't get good sleep last night. All of this took a toll on my body so I would say that I was not at my physical best today," said Sandhu.
'I had a slower start today than what I was expecting as the body took some time to recover. But I'm happy that I hung in there and still shot a decent score," he added.
Mane made a move on day two courtesy an eagle and seven birdies that came at the expense of three bogeys. He nearly had a hole-in-one on the 14th where his tee shot landed an inch from the hole.
He also drove the green on the 15th for an eagle-two and on the 13th for a birdie.
Subash Tamang, the 2023 All India Amateur champion, was placed tied second along with Mane. Tamang, searching for his maiden title, mixed six birdies with three bogeys. PTI AT AT UNG

ICC issues clarification after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli mysteriously disappear from ODI rankings

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who remain active in the ODI format after retiring from T20I and Test cricket over the last one year, were ranked second and fourth respectively in the ICC rankings earlier this month. Their sudden disappearance from the rankings list, however, was met with confusion among followers of the sport. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were among the top-five ODI batters in the world earlier this month before their names suddenly disappeared from the ICC rankings list. Reuters The International Cricket Council (ICC) issued a clarification after Indian batting stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma mysteriously disappeared from the ODI batting rankings that was released on Wednesday. The Dubai-based governing body for the sport confirmed that it was indeed a technical glitch that had resulted in the two modern-era superstars getting removed from the list. 'There was an error in our rankings tables today, but it has been rectified,' an ICC spokesperson told Hindustan Times. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Rohit and Kohli's names were later restored in the rankings, and they currently occupy the 2nd and 4th spots respectively. India Test captain Shubman Gill, recently appointed T20I vice-captain during the BCCI's Asia Cup squad announcement, leads the standings with 784 rating points while Rohit and Pakistan star Babar Azam occupy the next two spots with 756 and 739 points respectively. Kohli (736) and New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell (720) complete the top five. Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, is the fourth Indian in the top-10, occupying the 8th spot with 704 points. What the ICC's rules state on player rankings The ICC's rules state that a player can be removed from the top-100 in the rankings list if they have not played a match within the qualifying period – which stands at 12-15 months for Tests and 9-12 months for white-ball formats ODIs and T20Is. A player will also be removed from the ICC rankings if they have retired from international cricket. If they have quit a specific format then his/her name will be removed from the corresponding rankings and will continue to appear in other lists. Rohit and Kohli, however, had starred in India's triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy in March, the former as captain. With only five months having passed since the Men in Blue's victory over New Zealand in the final in Dubai, there's plenty of time before the Ro-Ko pair are officially removed from the rankings list. 'Rohit Will Retire After...': Ex-IND Batter Makes Big Claim About ODI Captain's Future

Last Updated: India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is on June 29, 2024, and quit Test cricket on May 7, 2025. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian men's ODI cricket team. Under his leadership, India finished as runners-up in the ODI World Cup 2023 and won the ICC Champions Trophy title earlier this year. In the summit clash played in Dubai on March 9, 2025, against New Zealand, Rohit played a 76-run knock in the 252-run chase. For his super show with the bat in the match Men in Blue won by four wickets, Rohit also won the Player of the Match award. In all likelihood Rohit will captain India now in the three-match ODI series against Australia as well in October 2025. But since Rohit's retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025, there have been constant talks about his exit from ODIs as well. Many former greats and experts of the game feel that Rohit might not feature in the 2027 ODI World Cup. But according to former India batter Mohammad Kaif, the next 50-over mega event, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in a couple of years' time, will be Rohit's last tournament for India. He feels that after Rohit's exit, the Indian team management will appoint Shubman Gill as the new captain. Gill is the current captain of India's Test team and vice-captain of white-ball teams (both ODIs and T20Is). 'In the last three years, Gill has scored 2,000 runs. He is the future captain. He is the Test captain, and in T20Is, he is the vice-captain. Rohit is the ODI captain. He is almost 38 and I believe will retire after the 2027 ODI World Cup. When he steps away, Gill will become the captain," Kaif said on his YouTube channel. Rohit, who has scored more than 11,000 runs in ODI cricket, is the world's No. 2 batter in the 50-over format of the game. In the 11 ODI matches played since the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rohit has registered scores of 58, 64, 35, 2, 119, 1, 41, 20, 15, 28 and 76 runs. He was India's top run-getter in all three ODI matches played against Sri Lanka in Colombo last year. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ex-Palestinian Basketball Player Dies In Israeli Strike Days After Death Of ‘Palestinian Pelé'

Last Updated: Mohammed Shaalan was killed in an Israeli strike near an aid distribution centre while attempting to secure food and medicines for his ill daughter Maryam. Former Palestinian national basketball player Mohammed Shaalan was killed in an Israeli strike near an aid distribution centre in Gaza's Khan Younis on Tuesday, according to reports. Shaalan was killed while attempting to secure food and medicine for his sick daughter, Maryam, and the rest of his family, according to Middle East Eye. Maryam reportedly suffered from kidney failure and severe blood poisoning, and Shaalan had repeatedly appealed for help in proper medical treatment. Also known as al-Zilzal – which means 'The Earthquake' – Shaalan was a popular figure in Palestinian sports, having played for several local teams including Khadamat Al-Bureij, Khadamat Al-Maghazi, and Khadamat Khan Younis, as well as representing the national team. Israeli forces have killed at least 670 Palestinian athletes since the genocide in Gaza began nearly two years ago, according to Palestinian sports officials. The UN said at least 1,857 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli strikes while seeking food since late May. Israel's offensive has killed at least 62,122 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to figures from the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has come under growing pressure at home and abroad to end the war. This came days after ' Palestinian Pele ' Suleiman al-Obeid was killed when Israeli forces targeted people waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) said in a statement. Obeid, who was born in Gaza City and played 24 international matches for the Palestine team, was married and had five children. In October 2023, Salah urged world leaders to unite and permit humanitarian aid into Gaza to prevent further loss of innocent lives. The incident received widespread attention when Liverpool star player Mohamed Salah criticised UEFA for posting a tribute to Obeid without mentioning that he died after being struck by Israeli gunfire in the Gaza Strip. 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?" he said in response to UEFA's tribute. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
