Passenger Refuses to Give Up Window Seat to Teen on 5-Hour Flight. Mom Fights Back
Having pre-paid for his seat, a man boarded his 5-hour flight believing he wouldn't encounter any issues However, when a mother and her son showed up to sit next to him, tensions rose She asked the man if her teenage son could sit by the window, and he declinedAirplane seating has long been a point of tension among travelers. For many, scoring the coveted window seat is a small victory that makes the cramped space and long hours more bearable. Watching bustling cities disappear and clouds drift by can transform a grueling flight into something more peaceful. However, even with assigned seating, conflicts can still arise, especially when passengers request swaps for personal reasons. One Reddit user described a five-hour flight during which they had reserved a window seat months in advance. 'I love watching a view and taking a nap near the wall,' they wrote. However, once on board, a woman traveling with her teenage son approached and asked if the Reddit user would be willing to give up the window seat so her son could enjoy the view. The man politely declined and said they'd prefer to keep the seat, but his response didn't go over well. 'She immediately says, 'Wow that's just a seat, don't be difficult,'' the user recalled. Trying to keep calm, the passenger donned a smile and responded with, 'Exactly. It's my seat.' What followed was a tense five-hour flight, with the woman sitting next to the Reddit user and making her displeasure known. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. 'She let out this huge sigh, sat down next to me, and spent the entire flight elbowing into my armrest and dramatically texting with her brightness at full blast,' they wrote in the post. The post gained traction as fellow Reddit users weighed in, with many supporting the decision to keep the reserved seat. 'Anybody that pulls the 'wow it's just a seat' card, should have it pointed out that if seat choice is so inconsequential they should be perfectly happy with the one they already have,' one user wrote. Another suggested that the woman pay for the seat. 'Tell her you will be happy to move. $75/hr for duration of the flight. Cash, payable in advance,' they wrote. 'If she complains, let her know that everything costs more if you wait until the last minute to book.' The larger discussion, however, touches on a recurring issue with air travel: when personal planning clashes with the last-minute needs or preferences of other passengers. While it's not uncommon for travelers to request seat swaps for reasons ranging from medical issues to wanting to sit with family, the original poster's frustration was about the fact that he had paid extra for his seat. 'I get wanting to sit together, but how is me planning ahead suddenly me being rude?' they questioned. Read the original article on People

Hilton names Christian Charnaux chief development officer
This story was originally published on Hotel Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Hotel Dive newsletter. Hilton named Christian Charnaux chief development officer, effective July 1, the company announced Thursday. Charnaux will take over from Kevin Jacobs, who was serving as president of development in addition to CFO. Jacobs will continue in his role as CFO. Charnaux rejoins Hilton after a seven-year stint as chief growth officer at Inspire Brands, which owns Arby's, Baskin-Robbins, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin', Jimmy John's and Sonic. Previously, he was senior vice president of corporate finance at Hilton, where he held several executive roles over the course of nearly a decade. In his new role, Charnaux will report to Hilton President and CEO Chris Nassetta. 'Christian is joining at a time of incredible momentum for our business and will play a critical role in helping us accelerate our global growth agenda,' Nassetta said in a statement. 'With his experience and focus, we will continue building on our network effect — giving more guests even more places to stay for every stay occasion.' Development continues to be a strong point for Hilton, which approved 32,600 new rooms for development during the first quarter of this year, bringing its total pipeline to 503,400 rooms as of the end of Q1, according to an earnings report released in May. In a first-quarter earnings call last month, Nassetta said Hilton 'remains confident' that it will deliver net unit growth of from 6% to 7% for the full year 2025. At the NYU International Hospitality Investment Forum last week, Nassetta spoke about the company's global development plans, which he tied to the rise in middle-class consumers. 'When we come out in our wheelchairs in 20 years and [ask], 'All right, what did we all do?' It'll be a mid-market story. It isn't going to be that we opened thousands of luxury hotels,' Nassetta said. 'The real story is what's going on in the broader environment — growth in the middle class, more disposable income, desire for experiences.' Florida home to America's top beach bars as Daytona Beach spot leads the list
"No shoes, no shirt, no problem." That's the motto at the No. 1 beach bar in America. Ocean Deck Restaurant & Beach Club in Daytona Beach, Florida, recently earned that distinction from USA Today readers. It's one of three watering holes from the Sunshine State that cracked the top 10 best beach bar rankings of 2025 — along with Flora-Bama Lounge, Package & Oyster Bar in Pensacola (No. 2) and Sloppy Joe's on the Beach in Treasure Island (No. 7), both nestled off the Gulf of America. Florida's top beach bar sits near the Atlantic Ocean, attracting a mix of "really dedicated locals" and tourists who trek to Daytona Beach annually for bike week and one of NASCAR's longest-running races. What started as a hot dog stand in 1957 eventually expanded into a full-fledged restaurant and bar. After longtime owner Dick Keough retired, Connie and Matt Fuerst took over the bar in 2012. "He always said he wanted to own this place," co-owner Connie Fuerst said of her husband, a veteran of the restaurant industry. It's the only bar in the city "actually on the beach," Fuerst told Fox News Digital. "Everything else has to be on a seawall. We're grandfathered into that rule." Part of its appeal, she said, is that people are able to "come in off the beach in their swimsuits and have a drink and enjoy it." The bar also puts on beach concerts and has karaoke every weekend. Then there's the restaurant, which keeps its kitchen open until 1 a.m. – an enticing draw for the early-morning crowds. For those who decide to stop by, Fuerst recommends the Ocean Decker, "which is a huge monster of a burger." "It's got onion rings, cheese, bacon, ham, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles," she said. "It is about, I want to say, 8 inches tall, and we have to put a steak knife in it to keep it together. People love it." Hawaii – not Florida – is the state with the most beach bars in the top 10. They are all located on resort properties. California comes in just behind Florida with two bars on the list, while South Carolina's Tiki Hut at Beach House is the lone representative from the Deep South. Check out the list of the top 10 beach bars and their locations. 1. Ocean Deck Restaurant & Beach Club in Daytona Beach, Florida 2. Flora-Bama Lounge, Package & Oyster Bar in Pensacola, Florida 3.
