Hamilton County, Cincinnati Bengals reach preliminary agreement on stadium improvements

CINCINNATI (AP) — Hamilton County and the Cincinnati Bengals have reached a preliminary agreement for $185 million in improvements to Paycor Stadium for the 2026 season.
Hamilton County commissioners will vote on the agreement on April 29. The team and county agreed to a memorandum of understanding Monday night and it was discussed during a county commission meeting on Tuesday.
The agreement would be the first step toward both parties agreeing toward a new lease and up to $830 million in stadium renovations.
The Bengals have called Paycor Stadium home since 2000. It was originally named Paul Brown Stadium until the team sold the naming rights in August 2022.
The first phase would cover upgrades to the club lounges, stadium suites and concessions. The Bengals would pay $120 million for those improvements with some of the money coming from a loan under the NFL's G-5 program.
The county would pay $64.5 million for fixes to escalators, elevators, the electrical grid, glass refurbishment and fixes to the stadium scoreboard control room.
Both sides have until June 30 to agree to a new lease or approve the first of five two-year extensions. The Bengals' original lease expires on June 30, 2026.
Bengals Executive Vice President Katie Blackburn told reporters during the recent NFL meetings 'we could, I guess, go wherever we wanted after this year if we didn't pick up the option. ... We are having discussions, and so we're hopeful that the county is thinking about it a lot too and wants to get it addressed in a way that would be beneficial to both of us.'
Hamilton County has asked the state of Ohio for $350 million for stadium improvements. The request comes as state lawmakers are also considering the Cleveland Browns request for funding toward construction of a new domed stadium in the suburb of Brook Park, which is about 15 miles (24.14 kilometers) south of Cleveland.

Aaron Rodgers on picking Pittsburgh: "It starts with Mike Tomlin"

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers made his Steelers debut on Tuesday, during the first day of the team's mandatory minicamp. After practice, he met with Pittsburgh reporters for the first time. The first question posted by the team on social media was this: Why was Pittsburgh the right fit for him? 'I think it starts with Mike Tomlin,' Rodgers told reporters. 'I've been a fan of his for a long time. There's a few iconic franchises in the NFL. I played for one of them for 18 years. This is another one of those. There's something special about — obviously this area, so many great quarterbacks are from Pittsburgh. 'I feel like Pittsburgh has been a part of my career from the beginning, playing for Mike McCarthy for 13 years, having Tom Clements — or Tommy Clements, depending on how old you are — as my quarterback coach forever, Tom Capers, Kevin Greene, Darren Perry, Ben McAdoo, Frank Cignetti, Luke Getsy. I don't want to forget anybody, but a lot of 'Yinzers' in my life.' There will be more than a few Yinzers in his life going forward. He becomes the most important resident of the Steel City. And he arrives at a time when many are skeptical. Many will likely stay skeptical until Rodgers plays and wins some games with the third team of his career. Especially since the last two years with the non-iconic Jets were less than iconic for Rodgers.

Stefon Diggs won't discuss the contents of his bag on the boat

Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs met with reporters on Tuesday, for the first time since his notorious pink powder club boat video. Not surprisingly, Diggs had not much to say. Via Mike Reiss of here's what Diggs said about the video and his standing with coach Mike Vrabel: 'I want to be as candid with you as possible but I kind of have a thing where I don't talk about my personal life with people I don't know personally. . . . I had a conversation with Vrabel obviously and I'll echo everything he said, hoping everybody is making good decisions. And I had a conversation with people in the building as well. So everything else is everything else. The particulars are all internal.' He then was asked about the most important particular: What was in the bag? 'Obviously it's a conversation that's happening internal, which I can't have too much of a conversation about it,' Diggs said. 'I've been in this league 10 years. You can format your question many different ways, I'm obviously going to answer it the same way.' Diggs has no reason to confirm that the contents of the bag were something other Pixy Sticks or Fun Dip. If he admits the contents were what common sense would suggest them to be, he would be more likely to be placed in the NFL's substance-abuse program based on behavior. For all anyone knows (since the league has declined comment on the situation) Diggs already has been placed in the program, based on the video. Given the revisions to the policy, which make it extremely difficult to get suspended, it's highly unlikely we'll ever know that the video triggered any consequences under the substance-abuse program — unless Diggs were to talk about it. Based on his responses to Tuesday's questions, it's safe to say he won't.
