Anna University sexual assault case: SIT probe into ‘FIR leak case' still under way
CHENNAI: While the lone accused in the AU rape case was convicted on Wednesday, the three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Madras HC continues to investigate the case of 'leak' of the FIR pertaining to the case, for which a separate FIR was filed, sources said.
The SIT was mandated by the Madras HC to probe both cases.
Sources said the team will soon file a report on the FIR leak case and a formal statement will be issued regarding it.
The investigation by the SIT regarding the case evoked criticism after multiple journalists, who downloaded the FIR from the CCTNS portal where it was available for a brief period of time without disclosing sensitive details, said they were harassed by the team.
Journalists said they were forced to hand over their personal mobile phones without notice, giving the investigation team unbridled access to personal and professional information.
The investigation team later stopped this method of investigation after the Madras HC directed the SIT not to harass journalists.

The TOI reported on Jan 5 that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) mentioned in its report that Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Babu Lal Katara, who was arrested in the same case, allegedly handed over six sets of the 2021 SI exam question papers to commission colleague Ramu Ram Raika. These were later leaked to Dadhich also, who allegedly circulated them for profit nearly a month before the exam. Investigators believe that Katara's association with Dadhich during the former's posting in Udaipur facilitated the leak. The investigation has revealed a broader conspiracy than initially suspected. Earlier findings suggested that RPSC member Katara leaked the papers only to benefit his colleague Raika's children—Devesh and Shobha—both of whom were arrested while undergoing SI training in Jaipur. However, recent developments indicate a commercial operation where question papers reached Dadhich and the same were sold to multiple candidates. Dadhich's role emerged last year following the arrest of trainee sub-inspectors identified as Renu, Surendra Bagadia and Surjeet, who got the exam paper beforehand. However, when the police arrested the trio, Dadhich went underground.

SIT formed for 7.3 crore NREGA scam in Bharuch
Surat: After Dahod and other districts in Gujarat, a scam in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) scheme has been uncovered in Bharuch district. An official of the Bharuch district rural development agency (DRDA), Pratik Chaudhary, filed an FIR at Bharuch A Division police station against two firms that are registered in Veraval, and the govt officials concerned, for a scam worth Rs 7.30 crore. Bharuch SP Mayur Chavda formed a special investigation team (SIT) under DySP Dr Anil Sisara to probe the matter. The persons accused are the proprietors of the two firms, Piyush Nukani of Murlidhar Enterprise, and Jodha Sabhad of Jalaram Enterprise; and govt servants in three talukas — Jambusar, Amod and Hansot. The FIR alleges that the accused produced inflated bills to carry out a Rs 7.30 crore scam in works under the scheme at more than 56 villages. It states that the accused did not use quarry spoil as specified in the tender or the metal that they had mentioned in the bills. Teams formed by the district development officer (DDO) first checked 11 works to confirm the scam. Teams later found that the same scam took place in 56 villages of Hansot, Jambusar and Amod. In most cases, the accused produced forged bills to get paid. They did not use the materials specified by the govt in the standard operating procedure (SOP). Both firms conspired with the govt officials to perpetrate the scam. Both firms were only responsible for supplying material. They conspired with the officials to get money meant for unemployed people from the NREGA scheme. They did not employ these unemployed persons as required by the scheme and completed road projects and other works to illegally obtain govt funds. This scam had been going on in these three talukas of Bharuch since January 2023. The FIR was filed on May 30, after which an SIT was formed on June 4 under the supervision of Dr Anil Sisara. The SIT included 11 policemen, including an inspector, sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector, and constables. The SIT has started its work and has taken statements from 30 people so far. The SIT has also called govt officials and employees for their statements. Officials are likely to visit all 56 villages where the scam took place.

Cousins Qualify For Medical Entrance A Year Apart. Forms Had Same Photo
A Munnabhai MBBS in the making? Two cousins, two years apart ace the tough medical entrance examination or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and secure admissions. Five years later, it now appears that their admission forms had different names but carried the same picture: of a man in a windowpane blue check shirt. In May this year, the Rajasthan police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) received a written complaint alleging that in the NEET Exam 2020, a clear case of impersonation took place where a doctor who made it to AIIMS Jodhpur actually got there fraudulently by making his cousin sit for the exam instead of him. The SIT has now transferred the case to the Jaipur city police, who say they have a strong suspicion the allegations are true The police have two score cards in front of them, one with Roll no 390361794. This belongs to Ajit Gora and has a photograph of the candidate in a blue check shirt. His result was declared on June 5, 2019, where he scored 578 out of 720 and got an all-India rank of 13718. He is currently studying medicine at a medical college in Bharatpur. The other score card of the NEET exam a year later belongs to Sachin Gora, his cousin, with the Roll No 3901001410. This result was declared on October 16, 2020. He scored 667 out of 720 with a rank of 1443. He is currently studying medicine at AIIMS Jodhpur. What triggered the investigation is that the photographs on both the score cards are of the same person in the same shirt. It appears to be a clear case of impersonation, police sources told NDTV. Both the candidates, Sachin and Ajeet, are being questioned by the police. Sachin was picked up late on Wednesday night from his AIIMS hostel room by a team of the Jaipur police. On the basis of the complaint by Bhinwaram Gaura, who knows both the candidates, the police registered an FIR on May 15 against the two of them. Cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy are the charges levelled against them. They have also been charged under an act passed by the Rajasthan government to prevent use of unfair means in exams. The whistleblower who filed the complaint against the candidates says he wants action against people who become doctors like this and do a great disservice to society by taking away seats meant for deserving candidates. Lawyer for the complainant, Jagdish Kuldeep, told NDTV the police should also investigate if there is a bigger racket behind it.
