Ex-THE BOYZ's Ju Haknyeon sues journalist for false claims over meeting Japanese AV actress Kirara Asuka
THE BOYZ member Ju Haknyeon is currently facing harsh consequences for meeting a former p*rnstar at a club in Japan. His agency, ONE HUNDRED, unilaterally terminated his contract and removed him from the group. Adding on to his distress, a report by K-media TenAsia alleged that he engaged in pr*stitution with the AV actress Kirara Asuka. Ju Haknyeon files defamation suit against journalist
Ju Haknyeon previously probed legal action against label ONE HUNDRED for arbitrarily removing him from THE BOYZ without his consent. Following that, he filed a defamation complaint against TenAsia journalist Choi Ji Ye under South Korea's Information and Communications Network Act. The lawsuit was filed on the charges of spreading misinformation regarding his meeting with Kirara Asuka, which caused great harm to his public image.
According to the report, Ju Haknyeon initially denied allegations of misconduct but later admitted to them when presented with evidence by his agency. Consequently, ONE HUNDRED terminated Ju Haknyeon's exclusive contract, citing investigation findings leading to a breach of trust.
How did speculations of Ju Haknyeon and Kirara Asuka's alleged pr*stitution start?
The issue stemmed from Japanese outlet Shukan Bunshun obtaining photos showing Ju Haknyeon and Kirara Asuka in close proximity, displaying skinship, including hugging and the model resting her chin on his shoulder. It was during their meeting along with some acquaintances in a private bar in Tokyo's Roppongi district on May 29. Though Ju Haknyeon admitted to the meet-up, he denied engaging in any unlawful acts with her.
Besides him, Kirara Asuka also refuted the "misinformation" spread against them through a post on X (formerly Twitter). In case, they are actually proven to have engaged in paid physical intimacy, they can end up facing legal consequences. As per the South Korean law, a penalty of 3 million KRW and up to one year prison sentence can be levied on both its citizens as well as on individuals of other nationalities involved with a Korean citizen.

A bridge with no destination, until cinema stepped in
Say 'A bridge to nowhere', every old-timer in Chennai knows exactly what you mean. Overseeing the Adyar estuary, this wasn't a half bridge when it was built in 1967, initially helped fisherfolk travel from Adyar to Srinivasapuram. It was meant to be their shortcut. However, nature had the final word in 1977. A part of it collapsed into the estuary due to a strong current, never to be repaired again. It is no riddle, of course, the Broken Bridge. Since then, the structure has lived more in stories than in function. Many chilling stories surround the bridge because of its abandoned appearance and the crime rates ran high; it is often feared by the public and unwelcome too. Yet, its very emptiness and past familiarity turned it into a sought-after shooting spot for many filmmakers. Notably, the 1971 film Rickshawkaran featured a song Kadaloram Vaangiya Kaatru where MGR and Manjula dance on the standing full bridge. For a whole generation of millennials, this bridge is etched as the stage of the iconic showdown in Aayutha Ezhuthu(2004), where Michael(Suriya) and Inba ( Madhavan) square off against each other, a confrontation that escalates into a brawl, all on that narrow strip of a bridge. The bridge is a metaphor and has lent itself to every narrative in movies from newfound relationships to bitter clashes. For Uma Vangal, a filmmaker, film professor and Associate Dean, School of Media at Sai University, the broken bridge is more like a symbol of broken ties, a bridge between the present and the past. 'In terms of visual appeal, this is well constructed for confrontation, beginnings and endings. There are so many narrative purposes for this bridge, it can either be a rupture or meeting point for three different stories,' she says. In many films, the broken bridge often makes a fleeting yet memorable appearance. Song sequences like 'Oh Sona' in Vaali (1999), Aaru (2005), Yaya (2013) and others, the bridge appears for its aesthetic appeal and its image now laced in a sense of nostalgia. However, to reduce traffic congestion, GCC has initiated steps to construct a cable-stayed bridge across Adyar, connecting Srinivasapuram and Urur Kuppam to replace the broken bridge. A private consultant was roped in for designing the concept. And yet, broken bridge has become immortal in a way, through cinema.

Golf Green man loses 1.4 crore to online share-trading fraud
Kolkata: A 57-year-old Golf Green resident lost Rs 1.4 crore in nine transactions over a period of three weeks in an online share-trading scam before he realised he was being duped and lodged a police complaint. Cops have started a probe and have been able to block Rs 9 lakh in one of several hundred accounts they were tracking. They are trying to return the amount to the victim, cops said on Tuesday. According to the complaint, a former top management official with a media firm, who took early retirement three years ago and is currently working as an independent business consultant, came across an advertisement on Facebook in July that promoted opportunities for high returns through share trading. After responding to the advertisement, he was added to a WhatsApp group named after a popular nationalised bank. "In the group, members were given instructions to buy and sell shares at specific times. The group had names and photos of real-life top officials whose portfolios matched the details shared by the administrators. I ran a fair amount of research before I started investing," the man told TOI. On July 29, the complainant said, the group administrators informed members about an upcoming Initial Public Offering (IPO) of a real estate company that would be offered at a discount. Believing the claim, he invested approximately Rs 1.4 crore in different transactions between July 21 and Aug 6. The IPO was listed on the National Stock Exchange. However, the complainant alleged that his money was blocked in the process and he was unable to sell the shares or recover the amount. "The app still shows I have an earning of over Rs 4 crore. But they didn't allow me to withdraw it and asked me for more money as transaction fees — 30% of the total amount," he said. The complainant said that on realising the fraud, he tried to reach out to other group members, only to realise many of them were fake profiles planted by the fraudsters. Cops said they have located one of the administrators in western Mumbai and also came across a man in Kolkata in whose account a portion of the cheated money had landed.
