The Great Indian Kapil Show Drops From Netflix's Global Top 10 As Viewership Dips
Netflix's The Great Indian Kapil Show season 3 was launched with major celebrity guests but has seen a steady drop in viewership, indicating waning audience interest.
Kapil Sharma made a big move to streaming in 2024 with The Great Indian Kapil Show debuting on Netflix. After years of dominating weekend television on Colors and Sony, the shift was expected to draw in wider audiences and bring his signature comedy format to a new digital audience. The show kicked off with plenty of buzz, but by its third season, numbers are showing a dip.
In its latest run, The Great Indian Kapil Show has aired five episodes so far. The first three made it to Netflix's Global Top 10 Non-English Shows, but the last two episodes have dropped off the chart. The early momentum seems to have slowed.
The opening episode of Season 3 featured Salman Khan and recorded 1.6 million views and 1.9 million hours viewed. Netflix calculates views by dividing total hours watched by the show's runtime, meaning these aren't unique viewers. The second episode, featuring the cast of Metro In Dino, had a combined 2 million views across its first two weeks—but this included cumulative views for both the first and second episodes. Netflix did not share specific numbers for the second episode alone.
By the third week, the episode featuring cricketers Gautam Gambhir, Yuzvendra Chahal and Rishabh Pant saw further decline. Netflix stated the total cumulative views for all three episodes had dropped to 1.2 million. That downward trend has continued, with the last two episodes now missing from the platform's global charts altogether. For context, the final entry on the most recent global non-English Top 10 list pulled in 1.4 million views in two weeks.
Familiar Pattern from Past Seasons
This isn't the first time the show has seen a strong start followed by a fall in numbers. Season 2 began well, but after four episodes, viewership slipped. The episode featuring Kareena and Karisma Kapoor marked a turning point, as total views across the first four episodes during week four dipped to 900k, despite 4.2 million hours watched.
Season 1 saw something similar. The fourth episode, featuring Vicky and Sunny Kaushal, resulted in a drop to 1.2 million cumulative views across four episodes, with 3.9 million viewing hours.
What's Next for Kapil Sharma's Show?
Despite the viewership dip, The Great Indian Kapil Show still remains one of Netflix India's most talked-about titles. But the slipping presence in the global charts may push the platform and the creators to reassess how the show connects with a streaming-first audience.
The upcoming episode will feature content creators Raj Shamani, Saurabh Dwivedi, Kamiya Jani, and Samdish Bhatia. Whether the guest line-up can reignite interest and pull the show back into the global rankings remains to be seen.

Saiyaara OTT release set for Netflix; Diwali debut on the cards
After a record-breaking run at the box office, the romantic drama Saiyaara, featuring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, is now gearing up for its digital premiere on Netflix. According to a report by News18, the film — already crowned the highest-grossing love story in Indian cinema — is expected to arrive on OTT around Diwali. While an official release date has yet to be confirmed, sources suggest that Netflix and the film's producers are eyeing the festive season for its streaming debut. Originally planned to drop a few months after its theatrical release, the film's overwhelming success — grossing ₹ 478 crore globally in just over two weeks — has led to an extended cinema run. The final OTT release date will reportedly depend on how long the film continues to perform well in theatres. If everything goes as planned, Saiyaara could brighten up viewers' screens during Diwali celebrations. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara tells the story of Krish Kapoor, a troubled musician, and Vaani Batra, a reserved poet. The film explores themes of love, heartbreak, and emotional healing. ETimes rated the film 3 out of 5 stars, praising Ahaan Panday's debut performance. 'He effortlessly blends raw swagger with vulnerability,' the review noted, especially in a powerful final scene where he echoes the intensity of cricketer Virat Kohli. Aneet Padda also received positive reviews for her expressive performance, particularly in a standout scene set in a recording studio, where she reflects on the lasting impact of emotions in music as compared to fleeting trends. With steady theatre attendance and positive word-of-mouth, Saiyaara is expected to continue its strong box office run in the coming weeks. Adding to the excitement, a viral video shows Ranbir Kapoor asking paparazzi, 'Saiyaara dekhi kya?' — sending fans into a frenzy on social media. All eyes are now on Netflix's Diwali line-up, with Saiyaara poised to be one of the season's biggest streaming events.
