Thirsty Mr Bonehead goes to Oxford, but where's Rebus?

Oasis aficionados will be aware that Liam and Noel are not the only members of the band; there's another bloke who goes by the colourful moniker 'Bonehead'.
With such a name, you would assume he isn't an especially erudite fellow, though you'd be wrong.
For while in Edinburgh, Mr. Bonehead popped into that most literary of saloons, the Oxford Bar, home-from-home of crime scribe Ian Rankin.
Alas, Rankin wasn't there to greet him.
The Inspector Rebus creator says: 'So by all accounts if I'd spent my free afternoon at the Oxford Bar, rather than the flicks, I'd probably have bumped into a thirsty Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs. Nice that he found my oasis though…'
Hard to swallow
Oasis may have skipped Glasgow, but Spiderman has been all over the joint, like acne on a teen forehead.
It's almost impossible to dodge the New York superhero, who's been filming his next blockbuster in the city.
Andy Cornfield was in a newsagents near Central Station and asked the salesperson if Spidey had been in.
'Oh aye,' replied the till jockey. 'He bought a macaroon.'
'You're kidding me on,' said Andy.
'How d'you guess?' asked the newsagent.
'Well,' said Andy, 'Spidey needs to squeeze into his snug spider-suit every morning. That'll never happen if he stuffs his face with macaroon.'
Wheely frustrating
Because the arachnid fellow has been filming in Glasgow, the traffic was all snarled up.
Linda Mumford and her husband attempted to reach the city centre by car, which proved a frustratingly ponderous pursuit.
Grimacing behind the steering wheel, Linda's hubby snarled: 'This traffic jam is slower than evolution.'
Nappy noise machine
Grumpy hubbies, continued.
Jenny McLeod was on a bus with her chap when a nearby baby started yawling.
'That's the problem with babies,' winced hubby, 'they're just bagpipes in nappies.'
Not awash with dosh
Financially flummoxed Don Murphy says: 'I don't understand why the bank is upset I can't repay my loan. Surely they guessed I had no cash when I asked to borrow some…'
Pop your clogs
A morbid though amusing thought from Steve Munro: 'Before I die I'll eat an entire pack of un-popped popcorn. Should make the cremation a bit more interesting…'

Watch as Celtic legend Neil Lennon spotted dancing and singing along to Oasis as he laps up Murrayfield concert

Neil Lennon celebrates Dunfermline's goal Credit: Kenny Ramsay Former Celtic captain and boss Lennon, 54, was spotted rocking a pair of shades and an Oasis T-shirt as he made his way to the home of Scottish rugby on Tuesday night. Lenny was one of the lucky 70,000 punters to have snapped-up one of the gold dust tickets to see the last of the band's three sold out performances in Edinburgh this month. The Hoops great has spoken before about how huge a fan of Oasis' he is - and has seen them SEVERAL times. He also named his son after the band's brothers, Liam and Noel. Lennon once said: "I've seen Oasis 13 or 14 times, including at Maine Road, which is one of the best gigs I've ever been at. "I've met them a few times – Liam is a lot smarter than he makes out, and Noel just cracks you up every time he opens his mouth. "I named my son after them as well. He's called Gallagher." Given how huge a fan he is, it's little surprise that he headed along to Murrayfield to catch the big reunion tour in action. And it's fair to say he was absolutely LOVING it. Another fan in attendance captured a video of a thrilled Lenny singing and dancing along as Oasis belt out Cigarettes & Alcohol. Neil Lennon telling Hearts fans to dry their eyes after Dunfermline equaliser Clutching a bucket hat, Lennon sings along word for word. Lennon certainly seemed to be enjoying the gig more than one time he went to see Oasis in 1996. He'd gone to that particular concert with Northern Ireland teammate Steve Lomas, who was the Manchester City captain at that time. And things took a turn when the two players ended up getting PHYSICAL - with Lennon chucked out. Lennon revealed in an interview: "The gig was amazing, as all Oasis gigs were in those days. Happy Mondays were on before them, so you can imagine the carnage. "So, I'd gone with Steve Lomas who was the City captain at the time and a couple of other Leicester players and Irish players. "With his bit of pull, Lomas got the group access backstage where they all got to schmooze with the band and other high-profile names. "The only problem it seemed was that 'nobody was talking to Steve'. "Steve gets a bit itchy when he's had a bit to drink and he starts looking at me in a funny way. "So, I'm talking to 'Bonehead', who is the bassist with the band, and his Grandfather about Gaelic football, and I see out of the corner of my eye that Lomas is still looking at me. "So I says, 'what's wrong with you?' Next thing, bang, he stuck the head on me." Lomas' status as the Man City captain at the time spared him the same fate as Lennon and he was NOT thrown out of the venue. Lennon's Dunfermline side have started the Championship season with four points from their openin two matches. An opening day 0-0 draw at Morton was followed by a 2-0 win over Airdrieonians in their first home game on Saturday just gone. Next up, it's a clash with fierce rivals Raith Rovers on Friday night. Susan Boyle sends message to Liam Gallagher after his special shout out to her at Murrayfield

Susan Boyle has taken to Instagram to respond to Liam's comments. Scots singing legend Susan Boyle sent a special message to Liam Gallagher after he dedicated one of Oasis' famous tracks to her at Murrayfield. The Oasis frontman, 52, gave BGT legend SuBo a shoutout at their final gig in Edinburgh on Tuesday evening. ‌ Liam was about to start their hit Stand By Me as he took to the mic and said: "This one's for Susan Boyle." Susan, 63, was quick to respond to his touching tribute as she took to Instagram in an Oasis top and her best bucket hat. ‌ The hat featured a picture of Gallagher with the title of his solo hit song and album "Why me? Why not?" Posing for the camera with two thumbs up, Susan grinned from ear to ear on her social media page. ‌ She gushed: "Thanks so much for the dedication Liam Gallagher. You've made this old girl's day." She even made a reference to The Poznan, a football celebration that has been taken on by music fans, and sees them turn their backs to the stage, place their arms around each other and jump up and down. It first started in the Polish City it is named after but became a favourite of Manchester City fans, which is the club Liam and Noel both support. Oasis fans jumped on the trend and now do it when the band performs their classic tune Cigarettes and Alcohol. ‌ Susan hinted she would also be heading to London to see Oasis when they return for their final sold out UK dates at Wembley Stadium in London. She added: "Hope to see you and the rest of Oasis at Wembley in September for a wee bit of Poznań. Big love to you all." Oasis finished their incredible three night run at Murrayfield on Tuesday evening after playing gigs on August 8, 9 and 12. ‌ Around 210,000 fans flocked to Murrayfield to see the Gallagher brothers perform in Scotland for the first time in 16 years. Their comeback in the Capital saw Oasis beat their previous ground-shaking record at Murrayfield as they set a new peak score for the most SEISMIC performance the venue has ever seen. While Gallagher had kind words for Susan, he had a very different opinion of Edinburgh Council. ‌ At each of Oasis' Scottish gigs, he took a savage swipe at local authority chiefs. Liam was left fuming at council bosses after they branded Oasis fans as 'drunk, lairy, fat, and old' in secret safety briefings. ‌ Officials claimed that the concert-goers would be mainly 'rowdy' 'middle-aged men' who 'take up more room' and will drink to 'medium to high intoxication'. Liam called out snooty Edinburgh council officials over their remarks on several occasions. Their next stop on the UK leg of their tour is Dublin where they will perform two nights at Croke park this weekend.
