In a sport built on moments of sudden, violent brilliance, Jose Ochoa delivered the kind of highlight that changes careers, and perhaps the flyweight landscape, forever. On a night when all eyes at UFC Atlanta were fixed on local favorite Cody Durden's homecoming, it was the Peruvian prospect who stole the show, scoring a brutal second-round knockout that left the State Farm Arena crowd in stunned silence and announced his arrival as a new force in the UFC.

Ochoa, just 24 years old and coming off a tough debut loss, entered the Octagon as the underdog against Durden, a seasoned veteran with the crowd and experience on his side. But from the opening bell, it was clear Ochoa had learned from his first UFC setback. He fought with the urgency and composure of a man who knew this was his moment to seize.
Durden, a relentless wrestler and Atlanta native, came out aggressive, looking to impose his will and give his supporters a reason to cheer. He pressed forward, mixing his wrestling with sharp combinations, and tried to bully Ochoa against the fence. But Ochoa's defense held, and his counters began to find a home as the first round wore on. By the end of the opening frame, it was clear that Ochoa's speed and power were going to be a problem.
The Knockout That Stunned The Atlanta Crowd
The second round began with Durden pushing the pace, but with Ochoa's confidence growing he landed a left uppercut that stopped Durden in his tracks. A follow-up left hand sent the hometown hero crashing to the canvas, and Ochoa pounced, raining down punches until the referee waved it off. The official time was just 11 seconds into round two. Ochoa leapt to his feet, roaring in triumph as the crowd processed the shocking turn of events.
For Ochoa, the victory was more than just his first UFC win; it was a statement. After the heartbreak of a debut loss, he returned with fire and focus, refusing to let the pressure of the moment overwhelm him.

The numbers tell the story of a fighter on the rise. Ochoa, now 8-1 as a professional, boasts seven finishes, six by knockout, and displayed the kind of power and poise that could make him a real threat in the flyweight division. His youth, athleticism, and willingness to learn from adversity mark him as one to watch.
For Durden, the loss is a crushing blow, especially in front of a supportive Atlanta crowd. But the veteran's toughness and willingness to fight anyone, anywhere, will keep him in the UFC mix. As for Ochoa, this is just the beginning. The flyweight division has a new name to fear, and after UFC Atlanta, Jose Ochoa's star is only getting brighter.
What's Next for Jose Ochoa?
With his first UFC victory secured emphatically, the question now turns to what's next for Jose Ochoa. The flyweight division has quietly become one of the most exciting in the UFC, with a blend of established veterans and hungry new blood. Ochoa's performance in Atlanta not only puts him on the map, but also opens the door to intriguing matchups with a host of talented contenders.

Ochoa's team has already hinted at a quick return, capitalizing on the momentum and his clean bill of health following the knockout. Names like Charles Johnson, Tagir Ulanbekov, or even a clash with fellow prospect Tatsuro Taira could make sense for his next outing. Each would provide a different stylistic challenge and a chance for Ochoa to showcase his evolving skill set further.
Beyond the matchmaking, Ochoa's story resonates with fans in North and South America. His journey from humble beginnings in Lima to the bright lights of the UFC is a testament to perseverance and belief. The Peruvian MMA scene, long overshadowed by its Brazilian and Argentine neighbors, now has a new hero to rally behind. Social media was ablaze with messages of support from Peru and beyond, with many hailing Ochoa as the country's next big sporting star.
For Ochoa, the challenge will be to stay grounded, continue improving, and not let the hype distract from the work ahead. But if his performance in Atlanta is any indication, Jose Ochoa is ready for the spotlight—and ready to shake up the UFC flyweight division. The future is bright, and the world is watching.
Don't be surprised if Ochoa's knockout of Durden is the viral moment that propels him into the UFC's next wave of flyweight contenders. The Peruvian prospect didn't just win, he made a statement, and the rest of the division should be on notice.

UFC on ESPN 69 desk analyst team rip Rodolfo Bellato for 'Oscar performance' after foul

UFC on ESPN 69 desk analyst team rip Rodolfo Bellato for 'Oscar performance' after foul The UFC on ESPN 69 desk analyst team of Anthony Smith, Stephen Thompson and Dan Hellie did not buy Rodolfo Bellato's reaction to Paul Craig's illegal upkick. The final preliminary bout of UFC on ESPN 69 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta produced a strange outcome. In the final seconds of the opening round, Bellato (12-2-1 MMA, 1-0-1 UFC) attempted to land heavy ground and pound on Craig (17-9-1 MMA, 9-9-1 UFC) to leave a lasting impression for the judges. However, Bellato fell to a knee, and Craig connected with an illegal upkick, resulting in a no contest. Bellato immediately looked toward the referee and threw his hands up as he was falling backward. Once Bellato hit the canvas, he remained motionless for a few seconds as if he was knocked out, before jumping back awake, seemingly believing the fight was still going on as the referee tried to get him to relax. Smith wasn't buying it. "Listen, guys: I'm going to be hard on Bellato: As the upkick happens, he looks to the referee to see if the referee realized that was illegal," Smith said on the UFC post-fight show. "... You see his eyes come to the referee to protest, and then realizes, 'Maybe I can get a free win.' Lays there, pretends he's unconscious, jolts back awake, allegedly. The referee comes over. That is a man that is awake. Pretends to grapple the referee as if he's unconscious, trying to get a cheap win. I've been doing this a long time, and I know what it looks like when somebody is faking it." Hellie added, "This is WWE level stuff." "Wonderboy" Thompson labeled Bellato's reaction as an "Oscar performance." While his desk partners only offered short one-liners, Smith, who famously refused to take an easy way out when Jon Jones landed an illegal knee during their title fight at UFC 235, wasn't finished going in on the Brazilian light heavyweight and the situation as a whole. "I feel really bad for Paul Craig," Smith said. "We're laughing about it and joking because it is so silly what happened here with Rodolfo Bellato and Paul Craig, but Paul Craig, although he did break the rules – we have to acknowledge that he did break the rules. It wasn't intentional, but that's a fight that seemingly could have continued. I'm not gonna pretend I'm in his head and I know how bad it actually did hurt, he definitely was not unconscious and hurt as bad as he was pretending, that's for sure."

Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray thinks Carson Beck needs to grow up, mature

Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray thinks Carson Beck needs to grow up, mature Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray does not like how Miami Hurricanes and former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has handled everything since he suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Georgia's SEC championship win over Texas. Since Beck's injury, he was reportedly not around the team much in preparation for the Sugar Bowl and then entered the 2025 NFL draft. Beck later changed his mind, which was probably the right decision, and elected to return for another year of college football. However, he entered the transfer portal and eventually signed with the Miami Hurricanes. Beck has often been in the headlines this offseason for non-football reasons. He had luxury cars stolen and some drama with his ex-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder. These are not necessarily detrimental things, but they are distractions at the very least and raise questions if Beck is completely focused on football. "I think he's handled it pretty poorly to be honest," said Murray after being asked about Beck's offseason since he got injured in the SEC championship. "I don't like all the distractions. I don't like what I've heard from the locker room. That at times he was not one of the guys in the locker room. That (Beck) was more concerned with making TikToks, being with his celebrity girlfriend." Georgia's projected starting quarterback in 2025, Gunner Stockton, is very well respected by his teammates and is quite humble. Beck, who is still returning to 100% from his elbow injury, has less than three months to prepare for the 2025 college football season. Beck will have to ready play an elite team in Week 1 because Miami opens the season with Notre Dame. "Obviously the drama in the offseason with said girlfriend and everything else is like... if I'm an NFL GM or coach or offensive coordinator, I need my quarterback locked in," added Murray. Quarterbacks are the most important position in football and are expected to be leaders. It will be interesting to see how NFL teams evaluate Beck in the 2026 NFL draft. "But I think that there's still more growing up that Carson (Beck) needs to go through and maturing to know what it means to be a professional. And being a professional quarterback doesn't mean that you drive, you know, a G-Wagon and a Lamborghini and have a celebrity girlfriend," said Murray. "Like that's not what it means to be an NFL quarterback." Aaron Murray on Carson Beck Follow UGAWire on Instagram!

Usman ‘For Sure' Gets The Next Title Shot?!?!?

He's back! Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman completely dominated Joaquin Buckley, winning a unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Atlanta last night (Sat., June 14, 2025) from inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Advertisement Before the fight, Usman suggested and planted a seed that a matchup with former Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev would be a 'blockbuster' event. Following his dominant performance, he's doubling down, arguing his win warrants a title shot. 'Let's be honest, I'm the biggest name in the division, and this is about entertainment- the UFC is an entertainment company,' Usman told reporters during the UFC Atlanta post-fight press conference (watch here). 'If you want to make the biggest fight, it's going to be [me] vs. the winner of JDM and Islam. If Islam pulls that one out, former pound-for-pound vs. current pound-for-pound, who doesn't pay for that?' A reporter straight up asked him if his win over Buckley earned him an immediate title shot. 'Oh yeah, for sure,' Usman said. 'I mean, you don't feel like that? Who else?' Advertisement While 'The Nigerian Nightmare' makes a strong case, and the UFC often favors former champions for title shots, other welterweight contenders, like Shavkat Rakhmonov and Sean Brady, are equally deserving. He was asked about a potential fight with Belal Muhammad because of their bad blood, and he didn't even acknowledge him, and seemed not to 'Remember the Name.'
