Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray thinks Carson Beck needs to grow up, mature
Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray does not like how Miami Hurricanes and former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has handled everything since he suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Georgia's SEC championship win over Texas.
Since Beck's injury, he was reportedly not around the team much in preparation for the Sugar Bowl and then entered the 2025 NFL draft. Beck later changed his mind, which was probably the right decision, and elected to return for another year of college football. However, he entered the transfer portal and eventually signed with the Miami Hurricanes.
Beck has often been in the headlines this offseason for non-football reasons. He had luxury cars stolen and some drama with his ex-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder. These are not necessarily detrimental things, but they are distractions at the very least and raise questions if Beck is completely focused on football.
"I think he's handled it pretty poorly to be honest," said Murray after being asked about Beck's offseason since he got injured in the SEC championship. "I don't like all the distractions. I don't like what I've heard from the locker room. That at times he was not one of the guys in the locker room. That (Beck) was more concerned with making TikToks, being with his celebrity girlfriend."
Georgia's projected starting quarterback in 2025, Gunner Stockton, is very well respected by his teammates and is quite humble.
Beck, who is still returning to 100% from his elbow injury, has less than three months to prepare for the 2025 college football season. Beck will have to ready play an elite team in Week 1 because Miami opens the season with Notre Dame.
"Obviously the drama in the offseason with said girlfriend and everything else is like... if I'm an NFL GM or coach or offensive coordinator, I need my quarterback locked in," added Murray. Quarterbacks are the most important position in football and are expected to be leaders. It will be interesting to see how NFL teams evaluate Beck in the 2026 NFL draft.
"But I think that there's still more growing up that Carson (Beck) needs to go through and maturing to know what it means to be a professional. And being a professional quarterback doesn't mean that you drive, you know, a G-Wagon and a Lamborghini and have a celebrity girlfriend," said Murray. "Like that's not what it means to be an NFL quarterback."

Bengals, Trey Hendrickson reportedly resume contract negotiations after edge rusher skipped minicamp

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson skipped the Cincinnati Bengals' minicamp this past week amid a contract dispute. The eight-year veteran is looking for an extension with his contract set to expire after this season. Hendrickson, 30, is set to be paid a base salary of $15.8 million but insists that he will not play this season under his current deal. He's seeking a long-term agreement that would put him among the NFL's highest-paid pass rushers. Advertisement However, not attending minicamp may have moved the negotiation process forward. Hendrickson and the Bengals have resumed discussions on a new contract, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports. How much of a gap exists between the two sides has not been reported. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is currently the league's highest-paid pass-rusher after agreeing in March to a four-year extension that pays him an average annual salary of $40 million. Hendrickson's teammate Ja'Marr Chase is the NFL's highest-paid non-quarterback with a new contract that will pay him $40.25 million per season. Hendrickson isn't the only pass rusher looking for a new contract. Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons and Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt are also looking to top the pay scale at their position. One major issue is that neither player likely wants to be the first to sign, possibly reset the market and then watch a peer overtake him as the NFL's highest-paid pass rusher. Advertisement The Bengals' defensive end has registered 17.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons. That total led the NFL last season. (He finished behind Watt's 19 sacks in 2023.) Subsequently, Hendrickson was named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl, earned first-team All-Pro honors and finished as runner-up in NFL defensive player of the year voting. Hendrickson has 77 sacks in his eight NFL seasons, averaging 13 over the past three years. Only Garrett has more during that span. He also has 220 tackles and 77 tackles for loss for his career. Cincinnati is also in a contract dispute with rookie Shemar Stewart, one of four first-round selections who have not reached an agreement with their respective teams. As a result, he left minicamp last Thursday.

Tennessee Titans' supporting cast ranked among NFL's worst

Tennessee Titans' supporting cast ranked among NFL's worst Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Bogonzi was tasked with rebuilding an organization that has struggled to remain relevant. Since moving to Tennessee from Houston, the Titans have made 10 postseason appearances, including a Super Bowl appearance in 1999 when they lost to the St. Louis Rams. Borgonzi is the next guy tabbed to take this franchise to the next level, but first, the rebuild. To that end, the Titans made many impactful moves during the offseason. They bolstered the offensive line during free agency and added other offensive weapons through the 2025 NFL draft. One of those weapons is Cam Ward, the rookie standout from Miami who is expected to start for the Titans in Week 1. But how did Borgonzi do with Ward's supporting cast? FOX Sports ranks the Titans' supporting cast near the bottom of the league at 29th overall. It feels like a big deal that Cam Ward is going to start his NFL career behind an offensive line that should give him a chance. Maybe the Titans overpaid for a couple pieces there, but it still looks like it's going to be a much better unit than what you'd expect from the team picking first in the draft. Calvin Ridley is still a solid enough receiver, and Tony Pollard still managed 1,000 yards on last year's terrible team. The options behind them aren't as exciting, but you've got to admit this isn't an awful starting point. It's interesting that with such a low ranking, there wasn't much negative to say about the Titans' offensive weapons. There are no big names outside of Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard, but they are all very capable players. Rookies Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, and Xavier Restrepo are already turning heads, and it wouldn't be surprising to see one or more of them take a starting spot before the season ends. Add to that the lack of talk about Tyjae Spears and what he brings to the table, that he held down the ground game while Tony Pollard battled injury in 2024. He has his own injury issues, but he's a multi-faceted player who can be used to disguise plays of all kinds. So, while FOX Sports ranks the Titans' supporting cast near the bottom of the league, it's mostly because it's an untested group in a new regime. How they perform this season will show us where things truly stand.

Two former Clemson stars named X-Factors for their teams for the 2025 NFL season

Two former Clemson stars named X-Factors for their teams for the 2025 NFL season Pro Football Focus recently highlighted an X-factor for every NFL team heading into the 2025 season, and two former Clemson standouts made the list: wide receiver Mike Williams (Los Angeles Chargers) and defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (Las Vegas Raiders). Williams rejoined the Chargers this offseason on a one-year deal worth up to $6 million, returning to the franchise that drafted him No. 7 overall in 2017. The 6-foot-4 wideout had a tough 2023 campaign, missing most of the year with a torn ACL. He signed with the Jets in early 2024 before being traded to the Steelers, where he totaled 21 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown across 18 games between the two teams. Still, Williams has built an impressive résumé over his career, posting 330 receptions, 5,104 yards and 32 touchdowns. His 15.5-yard career average ranks second among players with at least 250 catches since 2017. 'Williams is back with the Chargers after an uninspiring season with the Jets and Steelers,' PFF's Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman wrote. 'Now that he's back in Los Angeles, he'll look to revive his career and be a reliable No. 2 option behind Ladd McConkey.' On the defensive side, Wilkins enters 2025 looking to rebound from a season-ending foot injury that cut his first year with the Raiders short. After five highly productive seasons in Miami, he signed a four-year, $110 million contract with Las Vegas last offseason, becoming the league's second-highest paid defensive tackle. The former first-round pick appeared in just five games before undergoing surgery for a Jones fracture, registering 17 tackles, two sacks, and six quarterback hits in that span. 'If he can bounce back and show why he was worth that money, it would take pressure off Maxx Crosby and improve a unit that earned the league's sixth-worst PFF pass-rush grade in 2024,' the outlet noted. Both Williams and Wilkins will be looking to return to form this fall — and their performances could go a long way in shaping their respective teams' success in 2025 Contact us @Clemson_Wire on X, and like our page on Facebook for ongoing coverage of Clemson Tigers news and notes, plus opinions.
