Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray thinks Carson Beck needs to grow up, mature
Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray does not like how Miami Hurricanes and former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has handled everything since he suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Georgia's SEC championship win over Texas.
Since Beck's injury, he was reportedly not around the team much in preparation for the Sugar Bowl and then entered the 2025 NFL draft. Beck later changed his mind, which was probably the right decision, and elected to return for another year of college football. However, he entered the transfer portal and eventually signed with the Miami Hurricanes.
Beck has often been in the headlines this offseason for non-football reasons. He had luxury cars stolen and some drama with his ex-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder. These are not necessarily detrimental things, but they are distractions at the very least and raise questions if Beck is completely focused on football.
"I think he's handled it pretty poorly to be honest," said Murray after being asked about Beck's offseason since he got injured in the SEC championship. "I don't like all the distractions. I don't like what I've heard from the locker room. That at times he was not one of the guys in the locker room. That (Beck) was more concerned with making TikToks, being with his celebrity girlfriend."
Georgia's projected starting quarterback in 2025, Gunner Stockton, is very well respected by his teammates and is quite humble.
Beck, who is still returning to 100% from his elbow injury, has less than three months to prepare for the 2025 college football season. Beck will have to ready play an elite team in Week 1 because Miami opens the season with Notre Dame.
"Obviously the drama in the offseason with said girlfriend and everything else is like... if I'm an NFL GM or coach or offensive coordinator, I need my quarterback locked in," added Murray. Quarterbacks are the most important position in football and are expected to be leaders. It will be interesting to see how NFL teams evaluate Beck in the 2026 NFL draft.
"But I think that there's still more growing up that Carson (Beck) needs to go through and maturing to know what it means to be a professional. And being a professional quarterback doesn't mean that you drive, you know, a G-Wagon and a Lamborghini and have a celebrity girlfriend," said Murray. "Like that's not what it means to be an NFL quarterback."

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson skipped the Cincinnati Bengals' minicamp this past week amid a contract dispute. Subsequently, Hendrickson was named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl, earned first-team All-Pro honors and finished as runner-up in NFL defensive player of the year voting. Hendrickson has 77 sacks in his eight NFL seasons, averaging 13 over the past three years. Only Garrett has more during that span. He also has 220 tackles and 77 tackles for loss for his career. Cincinnati is also in a contract dispute with rookie Shemar Stewart, one of four first-round selections who have not reached an agreement with their respective teams. As a result, he left minicamp last Thursday.

Calvin Ridley is still a solid enough receiver, and Tony Pollard still managed 1,000 yards on last year's terrible team. The options behind them aren't as exciting, but you've got to admit this isn't an awful starting point. It's interesting that with such a low ranking, there wasn't much negative to say about the Titans' offensive weapons. There are no big names outside of Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard, but they are all very capable players. Rookies Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, and Xavier Restrepo are already turning heads, and it wouldn't be surprising to see one or more of them take a starting spot before the season ends. Add to that the lack of talk about Tyjae Spears and what he brings to the table, that he held down the ground game while Tony Pollard battled injury in 2024. He has his own injury issues, but he's a multi-faceted player who can be used to disguise plays of all kinds. So, while FOX Sports ranks the Titans' supporting cast near the bottom of the league, it's mostly because it's an untested group in a new regime. How they perform this season will show us where things truly stand.
