Commanders QB Jayden Daniels climbs in 2025 QB Tiers list
While Daniels didn't do it alone, he was the catalyst. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft burst onto the scene in the Commanders' shocking Week 3 win at Cincinnati on Monday Night Football. His touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin to clinch the victory with around two minutes remaining was one of the best throws of the season.
And yes, there's also the Hail Mary, too.
Daniels would set franchise and NFL records throughout his first professional season, so it's no surprise he's earned respect as one of the top passers heading into 2025.
Mike Sando of The Athletic released his annual NFL QB Tiers list for 2025 and ranked Daniels as No. 6, the first quarterback in Tier 2.
Here's part of what Sando wrote about Daniels:
No second-year QB has made a higher Tiers debut than Daniels. His 1.71 average and 17 top-tier votes break the records C.J. Stroud set last year. Stroud had eclipsed 2021 Justin Herbert.
"What I respect most is it never seems too big for him," a defensive coordinator said of Daniels. "He would stand in the pocket and deliver the ball. Once we saw him running around, it was, 'OK, he is going to be a problem.'"
Daniels became the only rookie starting quarterback in the Super Bowl era to reach a conference championship game without a top defense (Washington ranked 24th in defensive EPA per play, per TruMedia).
"He's a 2 with the arrow up," another defensive coordinator said. "He can run, he can throw with accuracy and he's really calm — the s--- ain't too big for him, and it's easy to see when you are playing him. He doesn't get flustered."
A sophomore slump has been mentioned for Daniels by several people when discussing 2025. That's a good talking point for the offseason, and it's not out of the question. It's tough to say it will not happen. But there are so many reasons to believe Daniels is different. Washington got stronger around Daniels, trading for Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and using a first-round pick on offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. The Commanders also traded for wide receiver Deebo Samuel to pair with Terry McLaurin, and re-signed Zach Ertz.

Packers sign former top-100 pick
On Monday, the Green Bay Packers brought in three running backs, Tyrion Davis-Price, Micah Bernard and Kylin James, for workouts. The Packers made the decision to add Davis-Price, who is in practice in Green Bay on Tuesday, amid some injury questions at the position. Emanuel Wilson and MarShawn Lloyd only returned to practice on Monday from prior injuries, which means they might not be fully recovered in time for the joint practice or preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts this week. On top of that, Jalen White was injured in the Packers' preseason opener against the New York Jets, and Israel Abanikanda injured his hamstring in practice on Monday. So, Green Bay's only fully-healthy running backs right now are Josh Jacobs, who the team is hoping to rest in this week's preseason game, Chris Brooks, Amar Johnson and now Davis-Price. Hence, the signing. Davis-Price is a very interesting prospect. During the draft process, he was considered to be a borderline draftable player. Instead, the San Francisco 49ers took him in the top-100 selections of the 2023 draft, only to trade for Christian McCaffrey in October of Davis-Price's rookie year. The LSU product, who was the number two back on the national title team and then developed into a two-year starter after that, has played eight total regular-season games over three seasons with the 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. He's turned 43 carries into 127 yards (3.0 yards per carry) and hasn't scored a touchdown yet. He also has not caught a ball at the NFL level. Despite going into his fourth professional season, though, Davis-Price is only 24 years old. Depending on the status of Wilson, Lloyd and Abanikanda, we could see a lot from Davis-Price against the Colts on Saturday.

Monday at Seahawks Training Camp- Darnold, defensive tackles Bohanna, Pili stepping up
Monday marked Day 16 of training camp for the Seattle Seahawks. The News Tribune's Gregg Bell shared thoughts live from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Twitter as practice wrapped up just before 3 p.m. Bell mentions that new quarterback Sam Darnold hasn't thrown an interception in practice in an entire week and looks comfortable in Klint Kubiak's new offensive system. Seahawks fans will be eager to get their first look at the former 3rd overall pick in game action the final two preseason contests, but the more Darnold has the offense humming in practice, the less he'll need to show it to the rest of the world before a massive revenge game opportunity against the San Francisco 49ers on September 7th. Bell also asked Head Coach Mike Macdonald about Quinton Bohanna and Brandon Pili, two young nose tackles who played well in the Seahawks preseason opener after veteran Johnathan Hankins' injury. Macdonald mentioned that they both "have really taken ownership of the trajectory of their career by taking care of their bodies." While the goal of a nose tackle seems as simple as clogging as much space as possible, doing it effectively and consistently is so hard that there's really only a couple good ones at a time. PFF recognizes this. RDEF is one of their rarest Grades to score high in- only 2 of 67 interior defensive lineman who played over 50% of their team's snaps in 2024 scored over 80.0. The mean of the data set, Seattle's own Jarran Reed, scored just 58.2. Nose tackles serve as specific a role as any defensive player, but the Seahawks have been desperate to stop the run the last three seasons, with their team RDEF Grades ranking painfully average at 17th, 23rd and 18th after ranking 3rd in 2021. However, it took center-stage last season. The Seahawks 3-0 start was ruined as injuries decimated the defensive line before Week 4's game visiting the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. They gave up 5.6 yards per carry and two touchdowns to Jahmyr Gibbs as the lack of depth was exposed. The New York Giants saw this and punished Seattle again in Week 5, who had a short week and was still banged up on the defensive front. The Giants funneled Tyrone Tracy to a 129-yard breakout where he averaged 7.2 yards per carry. Just six days after being 3-0 with a chance to make a statement in primetime, the Seahawks were 3-2 and plagued with injuries they couldn't control. The defensive line wasn't poorly constructed, it was just injured for a few weeks- and the Seahawks moved from 3-0 to 3-2 because of it. Having more options with size at the position in Bohanna (6'4' 327 coming out of college) and Pili (6'2 ⅞' 316) shores the depth up in case of emergency, giving Macdonald a solid Plan B when injuries hit. Finally, having better-fitting personnel will be a breath of fresh air for the rest of the defensive line. Byron Murphy and Reed, a pair of true 3-technique defensive ends, were forced to play there out of need last year. When Murphy was hurt they were shuffling through practice squad players in the Week 4 and 5 losses while they were undefeated prior. With Bohanna and Pili, Seattle can finally breathe a sigh of relief at a position they've craved depth in for years.

Pair of Florida Gators named to 2025 Bednarik Award preseason watch list
The Maxwell Football Club recently released its preseason watch list for the 2025 Chuck Bednarik Award, which included a pair of Florida football players. Defensive tackle Caleb Banks, along with edge defender Tyreak Sapp, were both named to the prestigious projection of college football's most outstanding defensive players. Last year, Banks played in 12 games — starting in 10 — totalling 21 tackles, 10 of which were solo tackles and seven tackles-for-loss, while also recording 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and recovered one fumble. So far this preseason, he has also earned a mention on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, which is awarded to the best defensive player in college football. Sapp played in all 13 games with nine starts in 2024, leading the team with seven sacks, 13 tackles-for-loss and two forced fumbles while also earning the highest PFF grade among all qualified Florida players with 90.4 — ranking him eighth highest among all FBS edge rushers and fifth highest among all SEC edge rushers. That was the highest ranking of any Florida defender since Jonathan Greenard in 2019, who posted a PFF ranking of 90.5.
