‘Disrespectful' tourist sparks outrage after desecrating ancient Greek marble ruin for photo-op: ‘They have crossed the line'
Call him Jerk-ules. A tourist has been labeled 'disrespectful' after lifting up an ancient chunk of marble for a photo-op in Naxos, Greece, as seen in a concerning Facebook post. 'They have crossed the line,' Kiriakos Jr. Boulamatsis, a Naxos resident who took the photo, captioned the post. 'Wake up before it's too late.' Advertisement The unidentified defiler hoists the marble slab aloft while a woman snaps his picture. Facebook/Alexandros Frantzeskos The desecration reportedly occurred at the iconic Portara, a 20-foot-high marble doorway on the islet of Palatia. It's the last remnant of a temple to Apollo, which was constructed between the 6th to 7th centuries BC before the project was abandoned due to political upheaval, according to the Greek Reporter. Advertisement In the appalling pic, the shirtless bozo is seen holding up a massive slab of stone seemingly taken from the grounds surrounding the cultural landmark as a woman snaps photos of him. The gate-crasher's photo-op sparked a backlash on Facebook with one critic calling the defilement 'disrespectful in every way!' The Portara is the last remaining remnant of a temple to Apollo that was started in the 6th century B.C. but was never completed. costas1962 – Advertisement Another wrote, 'It feels like people are becoming more stupid year after year.' 'Naxos is increasingly becoming a Disneyland and the visitors probably have money, but no respect and decency,' said a third. The photo's uploader Boulamatsis, felt that the brazen act highlighted the lack of adequate protection measures at the site, which is free to visit but lacks formal security or ticketing. He called on Naxos authorities to immediately deploy security guards along with other security measures. Advertisement 'Don't wait until the season is over,' he declared. 'Do it before the month changes!' Boulamatsis also claimed that had this occurred in another country, the offender would've been 'fined and deported.' According to Naxos Mayor Dimitris Lianos, the Ministry of Culture was made aware of the incident and has since posted a guard to the gate — although it's yet unclear how long they will remain there. 'What the Municipality and the residents of the island want, and we have submitted it to the Ministry of Culture, is for an on-site restoration and promotion of this particular archaeological site,' Lianos told local media, per the Daily Mail. 'That is, for it to be maintained and operated in an organized manner, with a ticket and security, so as to ensure its protection and generate revenue that will be attributed to Culture.' In a similarly egregious desecration earlier this summer, a clumsy tourist accidentally put his hand through a priceless 300-year-old painting while posing for a picture.

Arkansas hairstylist reveals ‘eerie' encounter with Devil's Den murder suspect Andrew James McGann moments before he's arrested mid-haircut: ‘He looked soulless'
The madman accused of brutally murdering two parents in front of their children in Arkansas' Devil's Den State Park 'looked soulless' during a haircut moments before he was arrested for the killings, his hairstylist revealed. Andrew James McGann entered Lupita's Beauty Salon in Springdale, Arkansas, just before 5 p.m. on July 30, five days after the brutal murders of Cristen Amanda Brink and her husband, Clinton David Brink, in the state park. Hairstylist Adriana Ruiz Avalos was put off by McGann's presence but still began the haircut, unaware of the high-profile arrest about to take place inside her shop. Lupita's Beauty Salon 'As soon as I saw him, as I was telling him to come into my chair, I had an eerie feeling about him,' Avalos told NewsNation's 'Banfield' Thursday night. 'He looked soulless,' she claimed. 'He didn't look right.' Advertisement The hairdresser says she had never seen McGann before the haircut session and found his hair and scalp in poor condition. 'Very dry and matted,' Avalos characterized McGann's head. McGann's eyes were 'very sunken' as he sat in the chair during the haircut. The 28-year-old murder suspect allegedly asked Avalos not to cut anything off the top to keep his eyes covered as he had evaded police for nearly a week, the outlet reported. AP 5 Cristen and Clinton Brink were killed while they were with their daughters in Devil's Den State Park on July 26, 2025. Facebook / Cristen Brink Law enforcement agents tracked McGann down to the salon, pinpointing him inside because his car, a black 2022 Kia Stinger, was parked outside. McGann kept his head down and tried not to engage with the plain-clothed agents when a detective entered the shop, located 35 miles away from Devil's Den State Park. Advertisement 'He really didn't say anything until they were like, 'I believe it's your car,'' Avalos said. The hairstylist believes McGann wasn't aware of the situation until it was too late. McGann was arrested mid-haircut and was handcuffed while still wearing a barber's cape, according to surveillance video from inside the salon. The cape was removed from the suspected killer as he was escorted out of the shop. McGann is accused of murdering the Brinks while the couple were on a walk in Devil's Den State Park with their two daughters. The family of four was allegedly ambushed by a knife-wielding McGann on a remote wilderness trail on July 26. Clinton Brink fended off the attacker as his wife rushed their daughters to safety. The couple was found dead in the wilderness and their killer had fled the area. McGann was charged with two counts of capital murder and is being held without bond at the Washington County jail. He allegedly confessed to the crimes, but is expected to plead guilty. Advertisement Prosecutors said McGann — whose DNA matched blood left at the murder scene — could face the death penalty if convicted. Avalos claims the entire incident took a toll on her and was left overwhelmed. 'I'm saddened because two little girls lost their parents. And it's … a soulless act by Andrew. It's unimaginable,' she said.
