When Youre Given Responsibility...: Yuvraj Singh Gives Verdict On Shubman Gills Performance, Reveals Defining Moment For India On England Tour
In his first assignment as Test captain, Shubman led India to a memorable 2-2 draw in England. Not only captaincy, Gill was also in red-hot form with the bat, scoring 754 runs in 10 innings across five matches. His standout performances included four centuries, with a career-best 269 at Edgbaston, where he also scored 161 in the second innings, powering India to a historic 336-run victory.
Yuvraj hailed his protege Shubman and highlighted how the ICC Men's Player of the Month for July 2025 brushed aside the doubts regarding his overseas batting record, leading the team from the front.
"There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It's just unbelievable that when you're given responsibility, how you take it," Yuvraj told ICC Digital on the sidelines of the '50 Days To Go' Women's ODI World Cup event.
"So, very proud of them. I certainly feel it's a win for us, although it's a drawn series, because it's a young team. And it's not easy to go and play well in England and prove yourself," he added.

Yuvraj Singh Reveals Defining Moment For India On England Tour
The 43-year-old also showered praise on all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar for a gutsy, marathon stand to draw the fourth Test in Manchester. He feels that the drawn Test in Manchester was the defining moment for India on England tour.
"The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test series. I've never seen, in a very long time, Washington and Jadeja got hundreds and drew a Test match," said Yuvraj.
"That speaks volumes. Obviously Jadeja has been there for a long time. But I think Washington Sundar, as a youngster coming into the team, I think it was incredible to do what he did," he added.
Yuvraj further mentioned that India's resilient display through the five-Test series in the absence of seasoned veterans in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made it even more remarkable.
"I think it's just fantastic because I felt when you have a young team going to England, it's a lot of pressure. You're filling the boots of somebody like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, it's not easy. I think the guys took it head-on," he said.
The drawn series In England saw Gill and Co share the maiden Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

The 38-year-old Rohit, who has not played any competitive cricket since the 2025 IPL season, dethroned Babar Azam while moving a place up even as the Pakistani slipped to No. 3 after a string of low scores in the recently-concluded ODI series against the West Indies in the Caribbean. With 756 rating points Rohit sits just behind India's Test captain Shubman Gill (784), who has retained the No. 1 position in the rankings. Former captain Virat Kohli held the fourth position with 736 points. Both Rohit and Kohli had announced their retirement from the Test format before the Indian team's tour of England but have expressed their willingness to carry on in the 50-over game. India currently boast five players in the top 15 of the men's ODI batting rankings, with Shreyas Iyer in eighth place and KL Rahul in 15th position.

Healy's fireworks overshadowed by final-over India A victory
Brisbane, Aug 15 (UNI) Alyssa Healy took a firm step on her path back from injury, clubbing India A to all parts of a ground named after her uncle Ian, before putting in her second long stint behind the stumps in three days. Yet the Australia captain's strong return from foot and knee issues took a back seat on Friday to her opponents' own comeback story, theirs from what appeared a doomed run chase to seizing a narrow victory that sealed a one-day series win over Australia A. The required run-rate was spiraling towards seven-an-over when India A's last recognised top-order bat, Radha Yadav, was dismissed for 60 to leave her side 7-193 with 11 overs remaining in their pursuit of Australia A's 9-265. It took a stirring 68-run stand between the visitors' numbers eight and nine, Tanuja Kanwer (50 off 57) and Prema Rawat (32no from 33), to pull off the two-wicket triumph. That was no mean feat given senior quicks Darcie Brown (who took 0-49 in her first match since March) and Kim Garth (1-33) opened the bowling, the pair among a cohort of national team players using the Queensland series for match practice. Needing five runs off the last over, Kanwer was out to Ella Hayward's first delivery, but Rawat held her nerve to seize victory with a ball to spare. Yastika Bhatia (66 off 71) and Radha Yadav (60 off 78) had laid the groundwork in the run-chase. It overshadowed somewhat Healy ramping up her return by pummelling a bruising 91 from just 87 balls in Brisbane, an early warning ahead of the ODI World Cup she will lead Australia at in October. "They've got a really spin-heavy attack and we're going to have to play a lot of that … throughout the World Cup as well, a lot of the middle overs will be spin-biased," said Healy. Yuvraj Sandhu storms to third title of season at Mysuru Open 2025
Mysuru (Karnataka) [India], August 15 (ANI): Yuvraj Sandhu stamped his authority at the Mysuru Open 2025 on Friday by registering a thumping eight-shot win to clinch his third title of the season that also helped him consolidate his lead in the PGTI Order of Merit, according to a release from Mysuru Open. Yuvraj (61-65-62-61), who hails from Chandigarh, emerged wire-to-wire winner after an exceptional final round of nine-under 61, matching his tournament low from round one, which saw him end the week with an astounding total of 31-under 249 in his very first appearance at the pristine Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club (JWGC). The 28-year-old Sandhu, an international winner, picked up the winner's cheque worth INR 15 lakh that took his season's earnings to INR 73,67,200, giving him a substantial lead of over INR 12 lakh in the PGTI Order of Merit. The champion took home the elegant new trophy depicting the majestic Mysore Palace, Mysuru's biggest landmark. As the preferred lie rule was in application through the week due to the rains preceding the event, Yuvraj's tournament total, the lowest ever on the PGTI, will not register as a PGTI record. Bangladesh's Jamal Hossain (62-65-64-66) came in second at a total of 23-under 257 following his effort of 66 in the final round. Delhi's Arjun Prasad (66-62-64-66) secured third place at 22-under 258 after shooting a last round of 66. As a result, Arjun, one of the most consistent performers this season with eight top-10s to his credit, moved up from third to second place in the PGTI's money list with season's earnings of INR 61,12,549. Yuvraj Sandhu, the leader from round one till the end, began the last day with a healthy three-shot lead. Sandhu went on to strengthen his position at the top early on day four with five birdies on the front nine. His drive on the Par-4 third hole found the green while he chipped in and produced a great chip for a tap-in on the next two holes. On the back-nine, Yuvraj continued his march towards the title by adding four more birdies courtesy a couple of terrific tee shots and his second chip-in of the day on the 11th. Sandhu, winner of the 2025 PGTI season's first two events, said, "Winning with a 31-under score and a huge margin to add to that is something that every professional golfer dreams of. I would like to thank my whole team for their support. I dedicate this win to my grandmother, whom we lost about two months ago, and also to my caddie, Sonu, who did an outstanding job this week. "My form through the week was, like I said before, a reflection of the grind I went through in the off-season. It feels nice when all that hard work pays off. I'm now looking forward to carrying forward this form into the season ahead. I had a side bet with my caddie that I would break my previous PGTI record of 10-under by shooting an 11-under today. Unfortunately, I couldn't achieve that today, but it was something that motivated me through the round," Sandhu said. "I would like to thank the JWGC for a great course set-up this week. The members were very encouraging as they walked with a lot of groups, and the staff did a fantastic job by keeping the course in top condition despite the rain preceding the event," he added. Jamal Hossain, who was overnight second, came up with six birdies on the day, but his early double-bogey made it hard for him to catch up with a rampaging Yuvraj.
