Justin Fields showing no ill affects from his dislocated toe

New York Post7 days ago
Thursday, Justin Fields was carted off the practice field.
Immediately, panic swept through the tormented Jets fan base, worried their starting quarterback was lost on the second day of training camp.
Initially, he was concerned, too. His phone blew up. But, tests revealed it was only a dislocated toe on his right foot.
'God was looking out that day,' Fields said Tuesday, in his first comments since what turned out to be a minor injury.
For the next few weeks, Fields will wear a protective plastic shield on the outside of his cleats to protect the toe.
It didn't seem to hinder him in practice. He used his legs on a few occasions, as he practiced fully.
The toe, Fields said, is 'working its way back to 100 percent.'
Fields missed only one practice, important considering he is on a new team with a new coaching staff.

'This is the time when you get those reps,' Fields said. 'You get those new installation plays in, so I think this time is very valuable in terms of getting repetitions, getting on the same page with your guys, especially when you're learning new concepts and stuff like that.
'So, definitely, I didn't want to miss much time, and that's why I was so eager to get back on the field and wanting to keep going.'
The Jets are bringing back a familiar face.
The team signed veteran kicker Nick Folk on Tuesday to solidify a position that has looked shaky early in training camp.

Folk, 40, kicked for the Jets between 2010-16, making some huge kicks for the team — none bigger than a 32-yard game winner in their 2010 AFC wild-card playoff victory over the Colts.
Chuck Vine, Folk's longtime friend and adviser, gave The Post this statement from Folk: 'It means a lot to be back with the Jets. This place shaped my career and holds a lot of great memories. But I'm not here to reminisce. I'm here to compete, lead and do my job at the highest level.'
'He is a very established kicker in this league,' head coach Aaron Glenn said. 'When you go back and you look at his stats from the last couple of years, they've been above board. … I'm happy that he chose us to be a part of what we're trying to do.

The Jets began training camp with rookies Caden Davis and Harrison Mevis on the roster.
Both have been unimpressive in camp.
The team waived Davis on Tuesday to make room for Folk, who only missed one field goal attempt in each of the past two seasons for Tennessee.
He went 21-for-22 last year and 29-for-30 in 2023 with the Titans.

Ben Shelton and Alex de Minaur are like oil and vinegar. While Shelton's game is built on his powerful serve, athleticism, and an improving all-around game, de Minaur earns his keep through his relentlessness, speed, and shot-making. They are a perfect metaphor for what makes tennis such a wonderful sport. They couldn't be more different as players, but here they are meeting for the first time in their careers, ranked No. 7 and No. 8 in the world. Shelton, who is the slightly higher-ranked competitor, is actually the underdog on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Masters in Toronto. The odds are pretty tight by tennis standards – de Minaur is -175 to win the match – and are likely influenced by the amount of time Shelton has spent on the court compared to his Aussie counterpart. Shelton has won in three sets in back-to-back matches, spending exactly five hours on court between the two contests. De Minaur, who is coming off a title at ATP Washington, benefited from a walkover in the Round of 32 before dispatching Frances Tiafoe in his previous match. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect De Minaur is always a dangerous player because of his tireless work ethic, but it becomes even trickier to beat him when he's got a full tank. The good news for Shelton is that his game is predicated on keeping things moving and using his serve to win quick, cheap points. That should mute de Minaur's edge in fitness quite a bit. NFL training camp 2025 news, live updates: Justin Fields, Jets offense struggling to get up to speed so far

[Top training camp stories | NFL team feeds | NFL training camp live blog] All 32 NFL teams have reported to training camp, and there's no shortage of intrigue and storylines so far. The New York Jets are hoping to be one of the NFL's most interesting offenses with Justin Fields under center, and there's still plenty of time to make that happen. Recent returns at training camp, however, haven't been strong. At practice Tuesday, a promising drive in 11-on-11s ended with a Fields interception, per SNYTV's Connor Hughes. That followed some struggles in 7-on-7s for Fields, and his total numbers the last three practices before Tuesday were reportedly 8 of 32 with an interception. [Subscribe to Yahoo Fantasy Plus and unlock Instant Mock Drafts today] The usual caveats apply here. It's early in camp, when defenses are universally ahead of offenses. Fields is in his first season under head coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. The Jets are still trying to sort out what personnel to use with which packages, and play to their strengths. It's all very routine at this time of year. That said, the Jets are counting on Fields to help move the franchise in the right direction starting this season. While he'll likely never be confused with a pure passer, those numbers need to improve for the Jets' offense to be effective. Top NFL training camp stories Browns release first depth chart: The Cleveland Browns released their first depth chart of the preseason Monday, and the quarterback order is as expected. Veteran Joe Flacco is listed as the starter, and fellow veteran Kenny Pickett is listed at No. 2. Rookie Dillon Gabriel, whom the Browns selected in the third round of April's draft, is No. 3. And fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders, whose slide to the fifth round was the story of the NFL Draft, is listed at No. 4. Cleveland's first preseason game is Friday at Carolina. Micah Parsons continues hold-in: On Monday at Cowboys camp, Micah Parsons spoke at length with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to the side of defensive line drills during periods of individual work. He then spent most of team drills with Cowboys vice president of player personnel Will McClay, watching at ground level from the sideline while team owner and general manager Jerry Jones watched from an adjacent temporary tower. It's all indicative of how Parsons isn't simply holding in to avoid daily fines amid lagging contract negotiations, he's communicating with team leadership during the process. Travis Hunter, OROY DROY? What kind of impact could Travis Hunter have on both sides of the ball during his rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars? If you ask head coach Liam Coen, a historic one. Appearing on "The Rich Eisen Show" on Monday, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen agreed with the host that Hunter, who was selected No. 2 overall in April's NFL Draft, could win both NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year as a wide receiver and cornerback. "I do think it's possible," Coen said. "He is committed to driving, not just himself, but his teammates as well. I think his teammates ... these guys are challenging him every single day. He doesn't get a free pass because he was the second overall pick and he's Travis Hunter." Patriots DC has health scare: New England defensive coordinator Terrell Williams had a health scare in the middle of team practice on Monday, when he fell onto the grass on the sidelines, according to reporters covering training camp. Medical staff quickly acted, went to aid Williams and rolled out a stretcher to help carry him off the field. The coach was able to get up on his own, per TMZ. Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald later reported that Williams collapsed due to dehydration, but was "fine" and receiving treatment. Jets' Mason Taylor out at least a week with high ankle sprain; Tyrod Taylor dealing with knee injury

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor has a high ankle sprain that will keep him sidelined for at least a week. Taylor, a second-round pick out of LSU, had been one of the bright spots on offense for the Jets during the first few weeks of training camp. The son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor didn't practice Monday or Tuesday after a day off Sunday. High ankle sprains often take several weeks to heal. But Coach Aaron Glenn, who announced the nature of the injury after practice Tuesday, doesn't believe Taylor's progress will be hampered by missing some practice time this summer. 'He's a damn good player,' Glenn said. 'He has the pedigree of being an NFL player because of his dad. I think he's going to be just fine. I'm not worried about that player at all.' Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor has a knee injury that is being evaluated. The 36-year-old Taylor is expected to back up starter Justin Fields this season. 'Listen, we all know he's an older player and obviously when you get to that point, there's some wear and tear,' Glenn said. 'So we wanted to make sure we get it taken care of so he can be ready for us when the season starts.' Glenn added that the knee issue isn't expected to keep Taylor sidelined for long. 'I don't see it as a long-term (thing),' the coach said. 'But I don't want to just stamp that right now, but I am sure it is not.' It was a busy day for the trainers, who had to handle a few other injuries at practice as the Jets prepare for their preseason opener at Green Bay on Saturday. Defensive tackle Byron Cowart injured an ankle during individual drills and rode the cart in the passenger seat from the field into the facility. Rookie cornerback Azareye'h Thomas injured his right shoulder when he fell on it while trying to break up a pass. Thomas was a third-round pick out of Florida State and is expected to have a role this season. Edge rusher Will McDonald had back spasms during individual drills and sat out the rest of practice. The Jets are already without Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (calf), left guard John Simpson (back) and special teams ace Kris Boyd (shoulder). Rookie safety Malachi Moore is being worked slowly back into practice as he recovers from an oblique injury. He was a fourth-rounder out of Alabama. ___ AP NFL:
