Bahrain prepares for historic King's Cup horse racing festival
Preparations are in full swing at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club for the 2025 His Majesty the King's Cup Horse Racing Festival, set to take place on March 6-7 at the Al Raffa racecourse.
This year's edition marks a significant milestone, introducing a new level of competition and excitement by attracting top-tier horses from Bahrain and beyond. Notably, it will be the first time in Bahrain's history that horse races are held during the nights of the holy month of Ramadan.
The festival will feature 16 races over two days, including His Majesty's Cup for imported, local, and Arabian horses. Among the contenders is Phantom Flight of Victorious Stable, aiming for a season double after winning the Crown Prince Cup. He will face strong competition from Zagato of Mohammedia Stable, a former winner in 2022, and Sovereign Spirit of Al Affo Stable, who finished second in the Crown Prince Cup.
International participation includes UAE's Godolphin Stables, fielding King of Conquest in pursuit of a second King's Cup title after Warren Point's previous triumph. Meanwhile, Ireland's Snellin will also compete.
The festival will conclude the Bahrain International Horse Racing Championship, now in its fourth year, with top-performing horses from previous rounds vying for final honors.
Free tickets will be available to fans via the Bahrainturfclub. com website, and the event will feature public prize draws and a best-dressed competition, adding a festive atmosphere to Bahrain's premier horse racing event.

Formula 1 and the FIA have announced the calendar for the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship, which will see the introduction of a new venue, new teams and new regulations for the next generation of F1 cars that will run on 100% advanced sustainable fuels. Commencing in Australia on 6-8 March, the calendar, which was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, will feature 24 races, with the season finale in Abu Dhabi on 4-6 December. In 2026, Ramadan will be throughout February and March, meaning the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix will once again be held in April. The 2026 calendar sees further improvements to the geographical flow of races, including the Canadian Grand Prix now following Miami in an earlier slot from 22-24 May, delivering significant freight efficiencies as some equipment can move directly from one to the other. This change creates a consolidated European leg of the season across the summer months, beginning in Monaco from 5-7 June, and finishing in Spain, where Madrid will make its Formula 1 calendar debut from 11-13 September. The Championship then returns to Asia with the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix, ahead of a triple header in the Americas, before Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi once again close out the season. The cup's new 'golden edition' couldn't have asked for a better first champion—Muharraq have been the team to beat all year. His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representing His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, presented the trophy to Muharraq's squad, who've had a brilliant campaign. The match was a good battle, with sets at 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, and 25-23. Mahmood Al Afia ran the show for Muharraq, setting up strong attacks from Jakob, Nasser Anan, and Sayed Hashim Isa.
