Rangers Football Club is pleased to announce that a consortium of investors, led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, has purchased a majority stake in the club, with approval from the Scottish FA.
The consortium will chart a new strategic vision for the club's future prioritising on-pitch performance and long-term financial sustainability.
The new leadership has committed to invest £20 million into the club at this time, which will be subject to shareholder approval at the General Meeting on 23 June 2025.
Cavenagh, a business leader and healthcare executive, will serve as Board Chairman. He will work closely with Paraag Marathe, who joins the Board as Vice Chairman and is the President of 49ers Enterprises, a sports investment entity also led by San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York. Cavenagh and Marathe have spent decades leading highly successful businesses and world class sports brands and as part of the Board will oversee all aspects of the club in this next chapter.
Andrew Cavenagh said: "We are deeply grateful for the trust placed in us by the Rangers Board, shareholders, staff, and supporters. This club's history and traditions speak for themselves, but history doesn't win matches. We know that the true way to honour the club's heritage will be to drive performance. Our focus is simple: elevate performance, deliver results, and bring Rangers back to where it belongs - at the top."
Paraag Marathe said: 'At 49ers Enterprises, we have built a track record of sporting and business success, but our driving motivation is our deep connection to the clubs and communities we serve. We are excited to join Andrew and our other consortium of investors in a new era for this iconic club, and we are determined to build something that supporters can be proud of for years to come.'
Reflecting the club's new leadership, Mark Taber, Andrew Clayton and Gene Schneur will join Cavenagh and Marathe as new members of the Board. Patrick Stewart, Fraser Thornton, John Halsted, and George Taylor will remain on the Board. Graeme Park, Julian Wolhardt, and Alastair Johnston are stepping down from the Board with deep thanks from the club for their contributions.
Fraser Thornton said: 'This new ownership phase represents a significant step forward for Rangers FC. The incoming shareholders bring not only funding but also deep expertise in strategic planning, infrastructure development, and sporting excellence.
'On behalf of Rangers, I also want to put on record our appreciation to the outgoing board members who have selflessly served the club. I also want to acknowledge our major shareholders whose backing has brought the club to this point, the vast majority of whom have chosen to reinvest in the club and continue with us on the next stage of the journey.'
Patrick Stewart said: 'From my earliest conversations with Paraag and Andrew, I have been excited and confident in the shared vision and what it could mean for the future of Rangers. Our focus now is on the hard work ahead, preparing thoroughly for the new season, appointing the right men's head coach, and ensuring we have the structures in place to support success on the pitch.'

New Rangers chief hopes for manager appointment 'in coming days'
New Rangers sporting director Kevin Thelwell says the appointment of a new head coach is his top priority and he hopes to confirm a deal in 'the coming days'. Thelwell, formerly director of football at Everton, officially started in his new role on Monday, days after the US takeover of Rangers was confirmed. The 51-year-old said he was aiming to move things forward quickly at the club, and that appointing a permanent successor to Philippe Clement was top of his to-do list. 'It's a great honour to be joining Rangers, particularly at such an exciting moment in the club's history,' Thelwell told Rangers' official website. 'While there has been significant work going on in the background prior to my arrival, that naturally accelerates from today, and top of the priority list will be the appointment of a new Head Coach for our men's first-team. 'That search has been progressing well, and the club and I look forward to bringing that to a conclusion in the coming days. 'This is a new chapter for Rangers, and while we recognise success won't come easy, our goal is clear: we need to win. 'My focus is on delivering that, with discipline and ambition. We'll give everything to move this club forward as quickly and sustainably as we can.' The Ibrox club also confirmed that Nils Koppen will leave his job as technical director after a handover period, with former Everton recruitment head Dan Purdy appointed as his replacement. Thelwell's first day on the job also saw him appointed to two key SFA and SPFL committees. The sporting director will sit on the Compensation Tribunal Working Group, as well as the SPFL Competitions Working Group, which is responsible for reviewing the competitive structure of the league and League Cup. The new Rangers board have wasted no time in making changes behind the scenes and the supporters already like what they see. Recruitment chief Nils Koppen has been shown the door with Dan Purdy coming in from Everton as replacement. A new boss is imminent and punters hit the Hotline predicting a bright future. Willie Mercer, Dumfries, said: 'I don't think there will be one Rangers supporter who will lament the departure of Koppen. It should instil confidence that the new board knows what they are doing. Anyone who thought that Robin Propper was a centre-half fit for the rigours of our Scottish game, he should be nowhere near the recruitment department of Rangers Football Club.' Alan Flett emailed: 'With the takeover now complete we can now start the process of getting back to where we belong, at the top of the Scottish game? For far too long Celtic have had everything their own way, but hopefully those days are over. "It's not as if we need to spend a fortune. A good manager, a commanding centre half and a proven goalscorer (not Shankland) should just about do it.' John Stewart, Newton Mearns, said: 'Looks like all the tainted titles won by Celtic for coming first in a one horse kiddy-on league since 2012 will soon be coming to an end.' Celtic fans are not impressed though and Scott McAdam, Glasgow, said: 'It will take a lot more than £20m or a fistful of fivers or a lot of Trump caps sold. "The best and the biggest team in Scotland are streets ahead and it's not changing anytime soon.' James Logan, Glasgow, said: 'I read that 'Rangers will soon be back where they belong.' Well they are exactly where they belong - second best. That's because they've only won three of the last 42 domestic trophies, they've only qualified for the Champions League once in that time and they got knocked out of the Cup by Queen's Park. There isn't a Rangers fan under 20 who can remember when they were ever at the top.' Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: 'So the new Rangers era is going to start with a £20 million investment and all Celtic fans are petrified. I almost choked on my Rice Krispies. If they think that will touch the sides on overtaking Celtic, who will spend that if not more this summer, then they're in for more disappointment. There's no doubt a bigger challenge is coming for Celtic but I don't think many fans are losing sleep just yet.' Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: 'Rangers fans are in for a big reality check, FSR rules blow all their wild fantasies out the water, the guys now in charge can run them better but they can only spend what they earn and that's a fact. 'Celtic don't get to spend any of our owners billions in personal wealth and neither will they. The sugar daddy years are over.' Gers have been linked with Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy but Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: 'Celtic tried this bringing in another veteran striker in Ian Wright and it went pear shaped. The same will be on the cards with Vardy, whose best days are behind him.' Finally, with all this takeover talk, Tam Bain, Desborough, said: 'With Aberdeen being the oil capital of Europe, is there no multi millionaire willing to invest in the Dons? Come on the big hitters in Aberdeen, let's match the Old Firm so we can challenge at the top.'

Jamie Vardy weighs up Champions League option after leaving Leicester
Jamie Vardy is set to have a number of options on the table after leaving Leicester City and at least one of those could give him a shot at Champions League football Jamie Vardy is weighing up a Rangers move which could offer him a Champions League return. It would represent a first chance of playing in European football's top club competition since 2016-17, when he took part for Leicester City. Vardy played nine Champions League games for Leicester in the season after their Premier League title win, scoring in games against Sevilla and Atletico Madrid. He is leaving the King Power Stadium this summer, though, after scoring 200 goals in 500 matches for the Foxes. The 38-year-old is likely to have a number of options on the table as a free agent. According to The Mail, Rangers are now in the mix for a player who has also attracted interest from Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League. Rangers will enter next season's Champions League in the second qualifying round after finishing second behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. They were eliminated from the same competition in the third qualifying round this term, losing to Dyamo Kyiv and dropping into the Europa League. The Glasgow club have yet to appoint a new permanent manager after Barry Ferguson's spell in interim charge. Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti are among the favourites for the post, but early contender Steven Gerrard won't be returning to Ibrox. It wouldn't be the first time Rangers have explored a move for Vardy. Their former manager Ally McCoist claimed in 2022 that they pushed for the striker when he was still at Fleetwood Town, only to be priced out of a move. "I tried to get Vardy when he was at Fleetwood, believe it or not. I couldn't get the money," McCoist told talkSPORT in 2022. "My coach John Brown watched Jamie Vardy. He had a great eye for a player, he watched him for 45 minutes and sent me a message saying: 'We need to get this lad'. That's a fact! "Clearly that wasn't to be. There are probably a few more (that we nearly signed) I could think of off the top of my head but Vardy was probably the biggest one." Former Leicester striker Gary Lineker was among those to praise Vardy after the striker confirmed his exit. "I'd like to just thank Jamie for all he's done for Leicester City Football Club," Lineker said. "He's inimitable. He can be a bit of a s***house at times on the pitch for everyone, but I always think in a brilliant way. He's been one of the game's great finishers. "He's done some incredible things. He was part of obviously the title-winning team in 2016 and then the FA Cup -winning team as well. He's been incredibly consistent and has very much been an absolute hero of all Leicester City fans. So thank you, Jamie Vardy, and good luck with whatever comes next.'
