Updates and highlights from Jacksonville Jaguars' latest OTA practice Stay up to date with highlights and insights from the Jacksonville Jaguars' latest OTA practice.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are back on the practice field on Monday for their seventh OTA practice of Phase III. Below we have highlights and updates from the media members who are in attendance.
As the Jaguars implement a new system on offense, as Liam Coen said following the first practice, Jacksonville is still in the "learning phase" as they build towards September. Right now, the emphasis is on fundamentals, technique, and communication as the playbook gets installed.
From Week 1 to Week 2 of practices--the Jaguars are currently in Week 3--Coen saw noticeable progress.
'I thought (the day went) better than probably expected, that way in terms of bodies on the ground and practicing cleaner," Coen said after last Tuesday's practice, via Big Cat Country. "It was much cleaner than day one, let's just say. When you're just trying to come in and get it going again after a few days off, I thought it was definitely cleaner. Was it perfect? No, but I thought it was better than the previous Monday, if you will.'
The defense is undergoing its own change under new coordinator Anthony Campanile. Like any play caller, Campanile has his core principles that he will build this defense around, but this is also going to be a malleable scheme that adjusts quickly to what the opponent is doing and is built to maximize the skill sets on the roster.
Of course, scheme matters, but equally as important to Campanile is that his players have the right play style as well.
"The most important thing when you talk about defense is your play-style," said Campanile earlier this offseason. "My vision for us defensively, we want to be a tough, fast, physical, violent at the point of attack team.
"What does that mean? That means that you got guys who take pride in not getting blocked. Everybody talks about running to the ball, I don't think there's another person in the world who believes in running to the ball more than I do. But you can't run to the ball if you don't get off blocks, and that is something that's going to be celebrated in our room."

Trevor Lawrence Showing 'Dramatic Progress' in Red Zone, Exciting Coen
Trevor Lawrence Showing 'Dramatic Progress' in Red Zone, Exciting Coen originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Early OTA whispers of Trevor Lawrence being a tad off-target can officially be put to bed. After some initial fine-tuning while recovering from shoulder surgery and ingraining new footwork, the Jacksonville Jaguars' franchise quarterback is reportedly looking "much better," particularly in a critical area: the red zone. This development is music to the ears of new offensive coordinator Liam Coen. Advertisement The initial scrutiny wasn't unexpected. Any franchise QB, especially one dubbed a "generational talent" and working his way back from an injury, will have every throw dissected during Organized Team Activities. A few wayward passes? National news. But Coen, tasked with elevating this Jaguars offense, isn't sounding any alarms. In fact, he's pointing to significant strides. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (16) prepares for a snap during an NFL Nelles / USA TODAY Network "Yeah, I think he's actually done a really nice job in the red zone," Coen told reporters, addressing Lawrence's performance inside the 20. "Really, looking back to the first time that we did it, last Friday... I think he made some quick decisions. You know, everything is sped up in the red area. The timing, the rhythm, the space, it's all tighter, it's all sped up. I thought he's done a nice job with his footwork in the red zone, understanding that concept." Coen acknowledged the limitations of non-padded practices, noting, "Ultimately, like good teams are able to run the football into the end zone. And it's hard to do that in this setting. So a lot of it is kind of geared towards practicing the pass game, the timing, the rhythm, the protections, understanding when zero blitz is coming versus drop eight. So those are the things we're getting work at, and I think he's done a nice job of executing in that area so far." Advertisement This upward trajectory is crucial. Lawrence is not only rehabbing his shoulder but also actively working with Coen to refine his mechanics. This dual focus likely contributed to any early OTA inconsistencies, but the recent reports suggest the arrow is firmly pointing up. Make no mistake, 2025 is a massive year for Trevor Lawrence. After a rollercoaster few seasons marked by flashes of brilliance, frustrating inconsistency, and untimely injuries, the pressure is on to deliver sustained, high-level play. The good news? The Jaguars' front office has seemingly pushed all the right buttons this offseason. The offensive line has been significantly "beefed up," and Lawrence has an upgraded arsenal of weapons at his disposal. Add to that Coen's offensive philosophy, which is expected to feature a "renewed emphasis on running the football" – a strategy designed to take some of the load off Lawrence's shoulders. The pieces appear to be in place. Back in 2022, with a solid supporting cast, Lawrence led the Jaguars to an AFC South title and a playoff victory. The argument can be made that his current supporting cast is even better. Advertisement While the Houston Texans are the presumptive favorites in the AFC South, the progress being seen at Jaguars OTAs, particularly from their star quarterback, suggests Jacksonville could be a serious challenger. If Lawrence's red-zone sharpness translates to regular-season efficiency, the Jaguars might just exceed a lot of expectations come fall. The signs, at least in early June, are undeniably positive. Jaguars' Travis Hunter is fitting in just fine in Jacksonville
The Jacksonville Jaguars' unicorn, Travis Hunter, seems to be on his way to seamlessly make the transition from collegiate amateur to NFL superstar. Hunter has yet to even take a snap, and yet his impact has already been felt both on the practice field and all over Duval County. Just this week, Hunter went viral yet again for an insane interception at the Jaguars' OTAs, but how is Hunter handling the transition to the NFL? Advertisement Action Sports Jax's Brent Martineau sat down with Hunter and discussed what it's been like for him since being drafted and what life is like inside the building. When asked that very question, Hunter replied, 'It's going great, it's a dream come true, and just happy to be out here with the guys, just being goofy and being myself.' 'I'm enjoying being a Jag, just being here, being able to play and being in the league, living my dream like I said before,' Hunter said. For some, the pressure might be too much. The day Hunter was drafted, he instantly became the franchise's most popular player ever. For many, that pressure can be overwhelming, but for Hunter, it almost seems natural. Advertisement He's just focused on football and being the very best player he can be for Head Coach Liam Coen and the rest of the coaching staff. Speaking of Coen, Hunter said he's picking things up quickly in Coen's playbook. 'The playbook is of course harder here, but I just go about it the same way, do what I have to do to be on the football field and playing fast,' Hunter said. Hunter went on to say that he's a perfect fit for Coen's offense. 'I fit perfectly. One of the guys, going to get the ball in the right spot and do my job,' Hunter said. Even so, Hunter doesn't want to set goals for himself just yet and knows he needs to be patient with himself. Success isn't instant gratification; it takes time and effort, and he knows that. Advertisement Martineau asked about Hunter's patience, to which he replied, 'Yeah, a little bit, gotta be patient. Coaches understand they are putting a lot on our plate right now, but as a player, you want to do everything right, you want to make sure you do everything right.' [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] Luckily, it seems Hunter is fitting right in with his teammates inside the building and is already forming a bond with Jaguars' star receiver, Brian Thomas Jr. The two, combined, could form what is one of, if not the best, young receiver duos in the NFL. When asked what stands out about Thomas, Hunter said, 'His work ethic. He's going to do exactly what coach wants but he's also going to make a play every time the ball comes to him.' Advertisement [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] Together with Thomas and Coen, the Jaguars have laid the groundwork for a much-improved, explosive offense this season. It's up to quarterback Trevor Lawrence and company to take advantage of the new offensive toys and get to work. When the games come, Hunter knows his team will be ready. 'You are going to see a group of guys that love the sport and group of guys that will work hard for each other, not just for themself for the rest of the guys on the team,' he said. Steelers WR Roman Wilson has perfect four-word description of Pittsburgh's receiver room
Steelers WR Roman Wilson has perfect four-word description of Pittsburgh's receiver room The Steelers wide receiver room may not have the biggest names in 2025, but they want to succeed more than anyone — and rookie WR Roman Wilson knows this all too well. At Day 5 of OTAs, Wilson was asked to further explain what Steelers WR Robert Woods' "grimy" comments meant for the receiver room — and this was his simple but effective response (courtesy of Steelers Live): "Getting out the mud," Wilson said. "Somebody that wants it more than other people." The Steelers will truly depend on Wilson, Woods, Calvin Austin III and DK Metcalf to 'get out the mud' in 2025 — as the George Pickens trade left Pittsburgh with similar issues to those of the 2024 wide receiver woes. Another wide receiver who may fit this bill is former Jaguars WR Gabe Davis — who is set to visit Pittsburgh on Thursday.
