Gardai have seized almost 40 electric motorbikes in a crackdown against the vehicles being used for drug dealing in Dublin.
The raids, as part of a day of action targeting the criminal activity, targeted locations in Dublin 10 and Dublin 24. The effort is in a bid to tackle crimes including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences.
Overall gardai seized 39 electric bikes, 15 helmets and nine batteries, with an estimated value of over €130,000. One bank account, with an operational balance of over €99,000, was frozen under money laundering legislation.
A garda spokesman said: "In December 2023, Operation Meacan commenced in the DMR South and is led by the Divisional Serious Crime Unit with support from the Community Engagement Unit and Community Policing Unit based in Tallaght, and the Divisional Roads Policing Unit.
"The aim of Operation Meacan is to tackle the use of electric motorbikes which are being used for criminal activity including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences. During yesterday's Day of Action, in an operation led by members attached to the Tallaght Fraud Unit and Tallaght Crime Unit, search warrants were executed at a number of locations in Dublin 10 and Dublin 24."

Millionaire arrested over Annie McCarrick murder released without charge

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A millionaire businessman who was arrested in connection with the disappearance and murder of Annie McCarrick in March 1993 has been released without charge. The man, in his 60s, was arrested on Thursday June 12 and was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Sources told The Irish Mirror that the man, who is now a respectable businessman and owns several properties with combined values of more than €1 million, has long been a suspect in the case of American student Annie McCarrick, who disappeared from south Dublin in March 1993. It was the first arrest in the long running probe into her disappearance – and comes two years after the case was upgraded from a missing person's case to a full blown murder inquiry. Sources have also told us that the man had an infatuation with Ms McCarrick. He has been interviewed by gardai at least twice. But that was as a witness – and now he is being questioned as a murder suspect. Officers from Irishtown Garda Station in south central Dublin – where the Annie McCarrick investigation is based – early yesterday morning sealed off a house in Clondalkin in south west Dublin that they suspect may be connected to the American woman's murder. (Image: A gardai spokesperson said on Friday afternoon: "Gardaí continue to investigate the disappearance and murder of Annie McCarrick in March 1993. "The male aged in his 60s who was arrested on the morning of 12th June, 2025 and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 has been released without charge. "The searches in relation to this investigation remain ongoing and are being supported by a cadaver dog from an external agency. "Searches will continue over the weekend." Officers began using specialist search equipment at the house yesterday afternoon – but gardai were keen to stress that the current occupants of the property were not connected in any way with Ms McCarrick – or the investigation. "The current residents of this home are not connected in any way with Annie McCarrick or her disappearance," gardai said in a statement. We have also established that gardai have spent much of the last two years interviewing dozens of people who worked with Ms McCarrick – or knew her personally. They have been building a case against the suspect – and even went to France to interview a key associate. Dublin prison officers seize over €37k in drugs and phones in smuggling bust

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Officers at a prison in Dublin seized a number of illegal contraband items after successfully intercepting two smuggling attempts this week. Authorities at Wheatfield Prison nabbed €37,400 worth of illegal drugs, tablets, mobile phones, and more. The first seizure came on June 7 when officers from the Operational Support Group saw a person attempting to throw packages over the prison walls. On swiftly recovering the packages, staff found cannabis resin, tablets, mobile devices, chargers, and SIM cards in the parcels. Separately, prison employees stopped a drone from attempting to deliver contraband into the exercise yarn. The parcel fell short of its intended target. It contained tablets, cannabis hard, powder, fob phones, and chargers. The total estimated prison value of the seized contraband is €37,400. A spokesperson for the Irish Prison Service said: "This on-going operation of preventing contraband into prisons aligns with the objectives outlined in the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between An Garda Siochana and the Irish Prison Service, which reinforces inter-agency collaboration in tackling drug trafficking, enhancing prison security, and combating organised crime. The agreement strengthens intelligence-sharing and joint enforcement efforts to disrupt criminal networks operating within and around the prison system. "The Irish Prison Service is committed to preventing the access of contraband into prisons and continues to be a high priority. The Irish Prison Service is committed to continuing to invest in new technologies and measures to support our efforts to keep contraband out of prisons." Dublin firefighter Terence Crosbie claims he 'felt like getting sick' after cops told of alleged attack

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Dublin firefighter Terence Crosbie claimed he "felt like getting sick" after police told him a woman alleged he attacked her in a Boston hotel over St Patrick's weekend in 2024. Crosbie, 39, is charged with raping a woman at the Omni Parker House Hotel in Boston on March 15, 2024. Crosbie has pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape and has been behind bars at Suffolk County Jail since his arrest last year while awaiting trial in Suffolk Superior Court. His trial heard he was interviewed at the Omni Parker House hotel the day after the alleged incident occurred. In an audio recording played for the court on Tuesday, Crosbie said: "What is the investigation about? If I'm being accused of something I'd like to know." The court heard Crosbie's first interview with detectives took place after a woman, now 29, attended Massachusetts General Hospital and said she was sexually assaulted at the Omni Parker House earlier that morning. In the recording, Crosbie detailed his movements. He said he visited Boston Irish pubs such as Thr Dubliner and The Black Rose before making his way back to the hotel, where he was sharing a room with Liam O'Brien. Crosbie said that he was first back to the room, but when O'Brien returned to the room with a woman he had been talking to at the Black Rose, he left to give them some privacy. He claimed he had waited on a chair beside the elevators, and after a while, returned to the room. Crosbie said the room was pitch black and he used his phone flashlight to find his way to his bed, which he claimed was empty. He said he removed his outer clothing and got into bed. He said several minutes later, he heard the woman "rummaging around" for her things and leaving the room. In the recorded interview, Crosbie said he "didn't say hello, didn't say goodbye," to the woman. Detective Michael Mc Donough asked him: "Would you be surprised if she said differently?". Crosbie replied: "Absolutely I would." In another audio recording, Crosbie asked if he could take a walk outside for some fresh air before continuing the interview. He told the detective that he "felt like getting sick". After the audio was played, Detective Michael Mc Donough took to the stand and said he and another detective returned to the Omni Parker House later that day after reaching a standard of probable cause to arrest Crosbie. However, they discovered the Crosbie was not at the hotel. Detectives were notified that Crosbie had booked an airline ticket on a flight from Boston to Dublin at 7:10 that evening. Crosbie was removed from the boarded plane and taken into custody. The trial continues.
