Garda crackdown on Dublin drug gangs sees dozens of electric motorbikes seized

More info Gardai have seized almost 40 electric motorbikes in a crackdown against the vehicles being used for drug dealing in Dublin. The raids, as part of a day of action targeting the criminal activity, targeted locations in Dublin 10 and Dublin 24. The effort is in a bid to tackle crimes including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences. Overall gardai seized 39 electric bikes, 15 helmets and nine batteries, with an estimated value of over €130,000. One bank account, with an operational balance of over €99,000, was frozen under money laundering legislation. A garda spokesman said: "In December 2023, Operation Meacan commenced in the DMR South and is led by the Divisional Serious Crime Unit with support from the Community Engagement Unit and Community Policing Unit based in Tallaght, and the Divisional Roads Policing Unit. "The aim of Operation Meacan is to tackle the use of electric motorbikes which are being used for criminal activity including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences. During yesterday's Day of Action, in an operation led by members attached to the Tallaght Fraud Unit and Tallaght Crime Unit, search warrants were executed at a number of locations in Dublin 10 and Dublin 24." Gardaí seize 39 e-bikes in day of action in Dublin
Thirty-nine electric bikes have been seized by gardaí in Dublin as part of an operation targeting the suspected use of the bikes in criminal activity. During a day of action yesterday, gardaí executed search warrants in a number of locations in the Dublin 10 and Dublin 24 areas. Fifteen helmets and nine batteries were also seized during the operation alongside the 39 bikes, with the total value of the seized goods estimated at over €130,000. Additionally, a bank account, with an operational balance of over €99,000, was frozen under money laundering legislation. Gardaí said Operation Meacan, which commenced in December 2023, aims to tackle the use of electric motorbikes in criminal activity including including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, drug related intimidation and other serious offences. The garda operation is led by the Divisional Serious Crime Unit with support from the Community Engagement Unit and Community Policing Unit based in Tallaght, alongside the Divisional Roads Policing Unit. Yesterday's day of action was led by garda members attached to the Tallaght Fraud Unit and Tallaght Crime Unit, gardaí said.
