India's test against Belgium, as both men & women team take on hosts
gone as per the script.
Finishing in top 3 and vying for a World Cup berth was on their minds when they left India for the European leg.
After six straight loses, the Indian Men's Hockey Team will now take on their nemesis in modern hockey Belgium, who come into the game tomorrow with 6-3 win against Spain, after they lost
1-2 in the previous tie to the same team.
They are currently placed third in the points table after the Netherlands and Australia respectively.
Meanwhile, India have slipped to the 8th position in the current pool standings and with two matches to go, the team will look to end their campaign with consolation win.
Putting things into perspective, Vice Skipper Hardik Singh said, "The results have not gone as planned and it's not that we have played badly. I think it hurts more when you play well but not convert that into desired result. This is something we will introspect on, but for now we are
focused on the last two matches here. Belgium and India have always shared a healthy rivalry
in recent times and both teams bring out the best in each other."
"Our focus will be on finishing well, ensuring tighter defence and creating chances to score," he added.
Meanwhile, the women's team will take on the hosts in Antwerp hoping to turn the tide against world no.3 Belgium.
Speaking about the upcoming game, Women's Captain Salima Tete expressed, "While we had two close matches against Australia and took Argentina to a penalty shootout in our last match, it was our 1-4 loss against Argentina in the previous match that gave us most insight into where we need to strengthen our game further and that is what we worked upon in our last match and take forward for our match against Belgium."
"Last year, during our previous encounter against the Belgium Team, we didn't give them any easy wins, and we're now taking our learnings from those matches and our recent encounters against Australia and Argentina to go all out against them again and hopefully win," she said.
The Indian Men's and Women's Team will take on Belgium in a double-header on June 21
and 22.
All the FIH Pro League 2024-25 (Men) matches will be streamed live on Jio Hotstar and
broadcast on Star Sports Select.

Mohammad Rizwan In Disbelief After Getting Out For Golden Duck
Rizwan came out to bat at No. 4 for Pakistan in the 295-run chase on Tuesday but got out on the first ball. Mohammad Rizwan came out to bat at No. 4 for Pakistan on Tuesday (August 12) against the West Indies in the third and final ODI of the ongoing three-match series, but he failed to open his account even in the series decider and got out for a first-ball duck. The captain of Pakistan's ODI side was clean bowled by fast bowler Jayden Seales, who then also picked up Babar Azam's wicket. The former Pakistani all-format captain could only manage to score nine runs from 23 balls. He was trapped in front of the wickets by Seales on the second ball of the ninth over of the run chase. Pakistani fans and team management had high expectations from Rizwan in the third ODI after the hosts rode on captain Shai Hope's unbeaten 120-run knock to post a total of 294 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs. But unlike Hope, Rizwan couldn't do anything in the match where his side needed him the most. The clip of his stunned reaction after getting clean bowled by Seales was shared by fans on X, and within no time it went viral on the internet. Mohammad Rizwan 0(1) vs West Indies | Ball By Ball Highlights #Pakistan #PAKvWI #BabarAzam — Tajamul (@Tajamul132) August 12, 2025 The star wicketkeeper-batter scored 53 runs for the Pakistani team in the series opener played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba on August 8 and got out for 16 runs in the second ODI. Hope equals Lara's record Hope entered his name in the history books by equalling Brian Lara's record of most centuries in ODIs as captain of the West Indies. Hope, who is leading the West Indies in the third ODI against Pakistan, completed his 18th ODI century in 83 balls. He has scored five centuries in the 50-over format of the game as the skipper of the two-time ODI World Cup winners. During his 17-year-long ODI career, Lara played 125 ODIs as captain of the West Indies and scored five centuries, whereas Hope has scored five centuries in just 38 matches as captain. The overall record of scoring the most ODI centuries as captain is in the name of Ricky Ponting. Ponting played 230 ODIs as captain of the Australian team and scored 22 centuries. view comments First Published: August 13, 2025, 00:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Australia ODIs In Sight, Rohit Sharma Starts Training With Former India Assistant Coach Abhishek Nayar
India ODI captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday started training at a suburban Mumbai facility with former national assistant coach Abhishek Nayar amid clamour for a "youth only" policy in the 50-over format following the success of the inexperienced Test squad in England. Rohit had taken a break from the game for a couple of months post the IPL as Indian men's team embarked on a difficult tour of England. He also announced his retirement from Test cricket ahead of the five Test series in England and is now a one format player. He was on a family holiday in England and came back last week. Rohit posted an Instagram story from a gymnasium with his close friend Nayar, who also at times doubles up as his personal coach. Nayar, who has also worked the likes of Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Rinku Singh and young KKR batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, was India's assistant coach batting till Champions Trophy, following which he was sacked. However, all those who have personally worked with Nayar have spoken about the changes he has brought in their games, including Rahul, who worked with him prior to the start of the England Test series where he scored 532 runs. The picture is an indication that Rohit is not in a mood to throw in the towel yet and would like to still believe that he would be good enough to play in the 50 over World Cup in 2027, still 26 months from now. The current national selection committee would want to ensure that a stable core is created for the 50 over set-up and with players who are available for the next two years. A school of thought in the Indian team management is that Rohit should be offered a farewell series and that should be Australia with Shubman Gill being announced as the new 50-over skipper. But how the selection committee and more so BCCI's influential office-bearers look at events is equally important. Rohit is an ODI legend with 32 hundreds, third highest in the all time list after Virat Kohli (51) and Sachin Tendulkar (49). For the record, Rohit was the 'Player of The Match' against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final. PTI KHS BS BS

Bundesliga Set For Longer Games As Germany Embraces More Added Time
Bundesliga games will take longer this season as Germany joins a drive to calculate added time more precisely. Germany's top men's league is the latest to follow a trend set by the 2022 World Cup and the English Premier League by measuring the exact time taken up by events like red cards, penalties and injuries, and adding that amount on at the end of each half. 'We currently have just under 60 minutes of net playing time (with the ball in play), which will probably increase somewhat,' said Knut Kircher, the German refereeing body's managing director of sports and communication, in comments reported Tuesday by German agency dpa. Listen to the latest songs, only on The new Bundesliga season starts Aug. 22 but the changes have already taken effect in the men's second and third tiers. There's been a backlash against some decisions.
