379 houses built under Punargeham project in Alappuzha
As many as 379 houses have been constructed under the Punargeham project of the State government in Alappuzha. Officials of the Fisheries department say 310 families have so far shifted to their new houses.
Earlier, 1,212 families have informed their willingness to move from the coastline to safer places. As many as 750 beneficiaries in the district had identified land for building individual houses and completed land registration procedures.
Meanwhile, the construction of an apartment complex under Punargeham for coastal residents at Mannumpuram, near Purakkad, is also inching closer to completion. As many as 204 fisher families would be relocated to the housing complex once it is ready.
The facility constructed by the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation on 3.48 acres of land has 17 blocks, each having 12 flat units. Each 491 sq ft flat unit has two bedrooms, living/dining area, kitchen and toilet. Besides, roads, drinking water, electricity, waste management systems, and compound walls are being readied.
The government launched Punargeham to provide housing for all fisher families residing in areas vulnerable to coastal erosion (within 50 metres of the coastline) in nine coastal districts of the State. The government provides beneficiary families an amount of ₹10 lakh each including ₹6 lakh for buying land and ₹4 lakh for constructing houses. The amount is disbursed in instalments.

Rajasthan State employee who was detained earlier arrested for espionage
The Rajasthan Police's intelligence unit has arrested a State government employee on charges of spying for Pakistan. He had been under surveillance for suspicious activities for an extended period. The accused, Shakur Khan, was earlier detained on May 28 and subjected to an intensive interrogation by multiple agencies. Khan, 49, working as an assistant administrative officer (AAO) at the district employment office in Jaisalmer, was allegedly passing sensitive and strategic information to his handlers in Pakistan. He obtained Pakistani visas on several occasions and travelled to Pakistan without reporting to higher authorities. Inspector General of Police (Security) Vishnu Kant said here on Tuesday that Khan was in regular contact with some individuals working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, especially Ahsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish, and Sohail Qamar. Danish was declared persona non grata by the Union government last month and was asked to leave India immediately. 'During his visits to Pakistan, Khan came in contact with the agents of the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI). He collected sensitive information after returning to India and transmitted it to his Pakistani handlers through WhatsApp and other social media platforms,' Mr. Kant said in a statement. Khan had access to sensitive documents while working in the border district of Jaisalmer. Since the matter constituted a serious security breach, a case was registered under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and Khan was arrested, Mr. Kant said. A court in Jaipur, where Khan was produced under strict security on Tuesday, remanded him to police custody for seven days. Pakistani contacts As per the first information report, Khan had several Pakistani phone numbers saved in his three mobile phones, which have been seized and sent for technical analysis. He allegedly shared strategically important videos and images with his handlers on these numbers, but this material had been deleted. A native of Mangliyon Ki Dhani hamlet in Jaisalmer district's Badoda Gaon village, Khan served as a personal assistant to former Minister Saleh Mohammed during the previous Congress regime. Khan's association with Mr. Mohammed has led to a political controversy since his detention. Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra said being a personal assistant to a Minister did not constitute a valid ground to implicate the Minister or his family in a crime. 'We have nothing to do with any criminal or anti-national activity. If the police have received some inputs, they should investigate and take action against the accused,' Mr. Dotasra said.

Home delivery ration hit elderly hard in Pathikonda division
Devanakonda: Despite clear guidelines from the State Government regarding doorstep delivery of ration to the elderly and differently-abled beneficiaries, the implementation at the ground level remains far from satisfactory in several mandals under the Pathikonda Division. Allegations have emerged that dealers in Tuggali, Maddikera, Jonnagiri, and Devanakonda mandals are not adhering to these crucial directives. The government has initiated a prestigious programme aimed at streamlining ration distribution through authorized fair price shops. The programme was formally launched in the division by Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Bharat Nayak and Mandal Revenue Officers (MROs) recently, beginning from Sunday. However, in Devanakonda mandal, several elderly citizens and differently-abled individuals continue to face significant hardships in accessing their entitled ration. to the government's norms, these vulnerable groups are to receive ration directly at their doorstep. Contrary to this, they are being forced to physically visit the ration shops, where they often wait for hours in discomfort, some even collapsing while waiting due to their frailty. Adding to the woes, technical glitches such as persistent server issues are causing considerable delays in the distribution process. Beneficiaries have expressed frustration over the long wait times and the lack of basic arrangements at ration shops. Furthermore, several cardholders have raised serious complaints about irregularities in the quantity of rice being supplied. Allegedly, dealers are using tin boxes to measure rice instead of weighing it properly, which leads to beneficiaries receiving less than their entitled share. There are also concerns that rice bags supplied from government godowns contain less than the standard weight, exacerbating the problem. When questioned, some dealers reportedly attributed the shortfall to underweight bags being dispatched from the civil supplies godown. Revenue officials have acknowledged these concerns and promised corrective action. Beneficiaries are now urging the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure that ration is distributed fairly and that home delivery services are effectively implemented for the elderly and the disabled. There is a growing demand from the public for stricter monitoring and accountability in the Public Distribution System (PDS), especially for those who are most dependent on government welfare. It remains to be seen how swiftly the administration responds to these pressing issues and restores the faith of beneficiaries in the ration distribution mechanism.
