CBSE mandates CCTV cameras in schools to ensure physical, emotional safety
The board made the announcement on Monday, July 21, citing the physical and emotional safety and wellbeing of students as a reason for tightening its surveillance laws.
"The school should instal high resolution CCTV cameras with audio visual facility at all the entry and exit points of the school, lobbies, corridors, staircases, all the classrooms, labs, library, canteen area, store room, playground and other common areas except toilets and washrooms with real time audio-visual recording," read the notice.
The installed CCTV cameras must have a storage device with the capacity of holding footage of at least 15 days. This will ensure that a backup of a minimum 15 days is preserved, which may be accessed by the authorities, if required.
Meanwhile, clause 1(X) of the NCPCR's Manual on safety and security of children in Schools states, "CCTV in schools needs to be monitored and maintained regularly."
The board explained the move is to ensure safety from abuse of any kind, violence, psycho-social issues, natural or man made disasters, fire, and transportation.
Emotional problems and stress in children, that may have risen due to bullying, may not always be easily detected by teachers or parents, according to the board, pointing towards the need for better monitoring of such incidents.
"Bullying can cause victimised students to suffer from lower self-esteem and daily stress about their wellbeing."
"Children of our country have constitutional guarantee of the fundamental rights to live with dignity and to have access to education in an environment that is safe, protective and conducive for their growth and development. Everyone in school has a role to play in ensuring good safety, healthy and secure environment within the school; be it teachers, special needs assistants, visitors and contractors and students themselves."

Body of Indian woman found dead in Sharjah repatriated, daughter laid to rest in Dubai
Nearly two weeks after an Indian mother and her one-year-and-five-months old daughter were found dead in their Sharjah apartment, the woman's body has been repatriated to India, while the child has been laid to rest in Dubai. The social worker associated with the body repatriation said that the mother's body was flown to Trivandrum on Tuesday evening via an Air India Express flight that departed from Dubai at 5.30pm. 'The body had been in the mortuary since July 9. Her grieving mother, who arrived in the UAE on a visit visa to accompany her daughter's remains, and her brother, who was already in the country, travelled back with the body,' said Nihas Hashim, the social worker associated with body repatriation. 'Family members in Kerala will receive the remains for final rites in their hometown,' added Hashim. The daughter was cremated at the Sonapur New Cemetery in Dubai, said the social worker. The repatriation and funeral arrangements were coordinated by social worker Hashim and Salam Pappinaserry, CEO of YAB Legal Services, in collaboration with the Indian Consulate in Dubai and the Sharjah Indian Association. 'It took time to complete the legal and procedural formalities, but we are thankful that we could bring some closure to the grieving family,' said Hashim. The woman and her daughter were found dead in their apartment, and a handwritten note was allegedly recovered from the scene. The mother of the deceased filed a case at the Kandura Police Station in Kerala against the husband and his family for alleged domestic abuse. Hashim said that the Consulate General of India in Dubai extended full support to the family and were working closely with us and the legal advisors to expedite the formalities.

Ahmedabad airport receives bomb threat, security force sweeps premises: Indian media
The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the Indian city of Ahmedabad received a bomb threat on Tuesday, July 22. The Crime Branch received a threatening email, ANI reported, citing Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police. Security forces conducted a search immediately, and nothing suspicious has been found so far, police added. A spokesperson from the airport said, "Following the receipt of a threatening email on 22 July 2025, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, activated the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee, and the threat was assessed as non-specific." "CISF's Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted comprehensive checks in line with standard security protocols. After a thorough sweep of the premises, no suspicious object or activity was found. Airport operations have continued without disruption," the spokesperson added. On June 29, a similar hoax threat email was received by the Ahmedabad airport, followed by another such threat after nine days. The email mentioned that an IED bomb was hidden in the bathroom pipeline, according to the Indian media. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport came into spotlight last month after the devastating Air India plane crash. The Boeing 787 aircraft crashed moments after taking off from this airport, killing 241 out of 242 passengers onboard, along with additional casualties on the ground.
