Horror as man is found dead in Thai internet cafe
A 42-year-old man has been found dead at an internet cafe in eastern Thailand after spending the night gaming alone.
Jirakrit Ruangsri, a regular at the Chonburi cafe, arrived on Saturday evening with snacks and soft drinks, settling in for what appeared to be a routine night of online gaming and movie watching.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Jirakrit was seen resting with his head on his arm, and staff assumed he had simply fallen asleep. But when the cafe manager arrived around 6am and tried to wake him, it became clear that something was wrong.
Emergency services were called with police arriving at the scene just after 7am.
Jirakrit was found unresponsive, slumped over in a gaming chair in front of a powered-off computer.
Police Captain Itsaraphong Suwannajak of the Laem Chabang district station said: 'The deceased is estimated to have been dead for more than six hours because his body was already stiff. No signs of assault were found.
'Police inspected his motorcycle and found multiple appointment slips from Chonburi Hospital under his name. They were appointments to discuss heart surgery.'
A preliminary search revealed no suspicious items were found in his possession. On his desk was a bottle of water, a can of soft drink, snacks, herbal inhalers, and a set of motorcycle keys.
His backpack contained clothing, medications and hospital documents indicating he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition, including upcoming surgery at Chonburi Hospital.
Cafe employee Pongamorn Donprai, 25, said Jirakrit visited the cafe almost daily to relax.
'That night, he came in, sat down and spent around two hours alone watching movies and listening to music, while playing a game,' he said.
'At around midnight, I saw that he had fallen asleep, so I went to wake him up. He was still breathing and I thought he was just tired so I let him rest.
'But when the manager arrived to clean at around 6am, we saw him lying facedown. He wouldn't wake up no matter how much we shook him. It turned out he was already dead.'
Staff said Jirakrit often chatted with them about his life and revealed that he had been suffering from heart disease. He was described as friendly and generous, occasionally bringing them gifts.
Jirakrit's body was taken to Laem Chabang hospital for a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.

The use of restraints will be examined in a major inquiry sparked by the death of a man who became unresponsive during a police arrest. Gaurav Kundi, 42, died in hospital on Friday, two weeks after the early hours incident on May 29 at the Adelaide suburb of Royston Park. The matter is being treated as a death in custody, sparking a string of investigations. The major crime investigation branch will launch a probe to be referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, with a report prepared for the coroner. "And I can confirm that his head was not forced into the police vehicle ... nor was his head forced into the ground during the incident." None of the officers involved in the arrest have been stood down from duty. "There is nothing at this point in time that would warrant that determination," Commissioner Stevens said. "If information comes to light during any of the processes that indicates otherwise then that would be something that would be reconsidered at that time." He could not give a timeframe on how long the multiple probes would take but urged the public to keep an "open mind". "Police are required to step into a variety of situations and often make decisions with limited information and with limited time to fully assess the circumstances," he said. "It never looks good when force is used against a member of the community. "I would just caution people to maintain an open mind until all of the information is collected." Commissioner Stevens said Mr Kundi's family was being updated and supported, with some flying to Adelaide. The Consulate General of India has been advised of Mr Kundi's death and would be updated, he said. Foreign Minister Penny Wong said she would not comment on the matter until the investigations had concluded. "More broadly what I would say to the Indian community here in Australia, and the broader Indian community, this is an investigation that will be done properly and be assured of our friendship," she told reporters on Friday.

Toormina man Clancy Pengelly charged with importing and unlicensed firearms

Police allege they have seized five litres of imported liquid ketamine, two gel blasters and other prohibited substances in a suburban raid on the Mid-North-Coast. Clancy James Pengelly, 40, was arrested in the suburban sting and charged with importing the border controlled substance and being in possession of the firearms without a license as well as drug offences. In documents before Coffs Harbour Local Court, police alleged they attended an address at Platts Close, Toormina, near Coffs Harbour, and uncovered the ketamine they allege was imported between March 13 and 16. Clancy James Pengelly of Toormina attended Coffs Harbour court on Tuesday as the police case against him proceeds. The documents show that on the morning of March 21, police also seized 15.51gm of ketamine, along with two gel blaster firearms, 2.86gm of cocaine and a quantity of MDMA. Pengelly faced court on Tuesday charged with import a border controlled, drug, possess an unauthorised firearm, five counts of possess a prohibited drug, and two counts of supply a prohibited drug in relation the cocaine and MDMA .
