Horror as man is found dead in Thai internet cafe
Jirakrit Ruangsri, a regular at the Chonburi cafe, arrived on Saturday evening with snacks and soft drinks, settling in for what appeared to be a routine night of online gaming and movie watching.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Jirakrit was seen resting with his head on his arm, and staff assumed he had simply fallen asleep. But when the cafe manager arrived around 6am and tried to wake him, it became clear that something was wrong.
Emergency services were called with police arriving at the scene just after 7am.
Jirakrit was found unresponsive, slumped over in a gaming chair in front of a powered-off computer.
Police Captain Itsaraphong Suwannajak of the Laem Chabang district station said: 'The deceased is estimated to have been dead for more than six hours because his body was already stiff. No signs of assault were found.
'Police inspected his motorcycle and found multiple appointment slips from Chonburi Hospital under his name. They were appointments to discuss heart surgery.'
A preliminary search revealed no suspicious items were found in his possession. On his desk was a bottle of water, a can of soft drink, snacks, herbal inhalers, and a set of motorcycle keys.
His backpack contained clothing, medications and hospital documents indicating he had been receiving treatment for a heart condition, including upcoming surgery at Chonburi Hospital.
Cafe employee Pongamorn Donprai, 25, said Jirakrit visited the cafe almost daily to relax.
'That night, he came in, sat down and spent around two hours alone watching movies and listening to music, while playing a game,' he said.
'At around midnight, I saw that he had fallen asleep, so I went to wake him up. He was still breathing and I thought he was just tired so I let him rest.
'But when the manager arrived to clean at around 6am, we saw him lying facedown. He wouldn't wake up no matter how much we shook him. It turned out he was already dead.'
Staff said Jirakrit often chatted with them about his life and revealed that he had been suffering from heart disease. He was described as friendly and generous, occasionally bringing them gifts.
Jirakrit's body was taken to Laem Chabang hospital for a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.

Man takes own life outside Queensland childcare centre
A community is reeling after a man took his own life outside a Queensland childcare centre, where six children were awaiting pickup by their parents. Emergency services were called to a disturbance at Habitat Early Learning centre in Peregian Springs on the Sunshine Coast around 6pm on Monday. On arrival, police said they had located a 28-year-old man who had forced entry to the premises, was self-harming, and sustained serious injuries as a result. A spokesman for the childcare centre told the Courier Mail six children were inside the premises at the time, alongside five staff. 'The offender was unable to gain immediate access to the centre due to security measures including fingerprint scanners, and this allowed our staff the time to follow their safety protocols and hide everyone in a secure location,' they said. 'The offender was not known to any staff or our families. 'None of the children witnessed the offender after his initial attempts to enter the building.' Queensland Education minister John Paul Langbroek, when asked about the event at an unrelated press conference shortly after, declared it was 'a horrendous issue that I've only just been advised of'. 'I'm sure that for many of those students and teachers, it's a particularly traumatic experience they've gone through,' he said. 'I think those early childhood teachers and educators are heroes, and any counselling service that is needed will be provided, but the safety of our children is paramount.' Homicide detectives have pleaded for a mother to come forward amid concerns for her health after a newborn baby boy was found dead in a stormwater drain in Perth. A newborn baby boy found dead in a suburban stormwater drain was placed there in recent days before being discovered, police say. Two workers carrying out routine maintenance made the confronting discovery in Perth's northern suburbs on Monday afternoon. Man in custody after woman found dead in home in Cobram, Victoria
A woman has been found dead at a home in regional Victoria, where two children were inside at the time. Police were called to Christie Ave in Cobram - about 260km north of Melbourne - at about 5am on Tuesday. The body of a 32-year-old woman was found inside. Two young children - both unharmed - were also inside the home. A 45-year-old man, who police say was known to the woman, has been arrested. 'Detectives from the Homicide Squad are headed to the scene and will interview the man in relation to the woman's death,' a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
