Priyansh, Prabhsimran, Suryavanshi will be in contention for World Cup spot: Robin Uthappa
New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): Former top-order batter Robin Uthappa believes three uncapped explosive stars Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Vaibhav Suryavanshi will 'definitely' be in contention for a spot in India's T20 World Cup title defence at home next year.
Different franchises unearthed new talents in the recently concluded 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While some were identified as ones for the future, some knocked on the door for an immediate spot in India's T20I fold.
Punjab Kings' opening pair Priyansh and Prabhsimran dazzled with their aggressive intent throughout the tournament. Apart from the young duo, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who opened for Rajasthan Royals (RR), grabbed the headlines with his record-shattering blitzkrieg blended with caution and aggression.
With the rise of the young trio, India will face a massive challenge in figuring out the best top order for next year's marquee event. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have spent a year away from the format. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have formed a new opening pair in their absence.
For Uthappa, India should invest its time in the remaining T20Is to identify the best possible squad for its title defence and fully fit players to boost their hopes in the tournament.
'Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, all of them will definitely be in contention for a World Cup spot. It's about using the remaining T20s before the tournament to figure out the best 15-man squad. You already have Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all Test players who can also thrive in T20s,' Uthappa said at the launch of the Australian Summer of Cricket 2025-26.
'Then there's Sanju Samson. So it's going to be a challenge figuring out who makes the cut. Fitness will play a key role -- you want a fully fit squad going into a World Cup, and I'm sure that's something the selectors and management will be closely monitoring,' he added.
During his impressive run, Prabhsimran racked up 549 runs in 17 matches at 32.29 while striking over 160 with four fifties and a best score of 91. The 24-year-old finished as the eighth-highest run-getter in the tournament.
His opening partner, who earned a reputation for his exploits in the Delhi Premier League, finished the season with 475 runs in 17 innings at 27.94 while maintaining a strike rate of 179.24, including a solitary century and two fifties. Suryavanshi, who came in towards the latter half of the tournament, garnered 252 runs in seven matches at 36.00, with a rollicking strike rate of above 206. (ANI)

Actions taken without establishing individual responsibility would be seen as scapegoating rather than principled accountability and may have a demoralising effect on the entire police force, while undermining institutional integrity.' 'In the spirit of constructive engagement, the Indian Police Foundation offers to support the Government by conducting a Post-Incident Review and Analysis. This would be a non-adversarial, independent exercise, not intended for fault-finding, but focused on identifying systemic gaps, good practices, and actionable lessons to guide police operations and training. The IPF has in its membership a distinguished team of former DGPs, former civil servants, senior police leaders, forensic scientists, public safety experts, and academics who can undertake this exercise with neutrality, sensitivity, and professionalism,' the letter added. A day after the Bengaluru stampede, the state government had suspended Bengaluru Commissioner of Police B Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar H Tekkannavar, ACP (Cubbon Park sub-division) C Balakrishna, and police inspector Girish A K on Thursday. Besides the Opposition, social media users have also flooded the government with requests to reinstate Dayananda.

Bengaluru stampede: IPS officer moves Central Administrative Tribunal challenging suspension
BENGALURU: Senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was among the five officers suspended in connection with the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, has moved the Central Administrative Tribunal challenging his suspension, official sources said on Monday. Vikash, who was the Additional Commissioner of Police (West), moved the tribunal last week, they said. The tribunal is likely to hear the matter in the days ahead, sources said. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on June 5 ordered the suspension of five officers, including those of the Circle Police Inspector of the Cubbon Park Police station A K Girish and Assistant Commissioner of Police C Balakrishna, Deputy Commissioner of Police of central division Shekhar H Tekkannavar, and Commissioner of Police Bengaluru city Dayananda. Defending the police suspensions, Siddaramaiah on Friday said prima facie those who have not fulfilled their responsibility properly have been suspended. The suspension order said, "It is found that there has been on the face of it substantial dereliction of duty by these officers." The stampede occurred on June 4 in front of the stadium, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's IPL victory celebrations. Eleven people have died and over 50 people were injured in the incident.

Delhi, Kolkata swap Test matches as BCCI announces changes to India's home cricket season
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced multiple changes to the home international schedule, including for South Africa and West Indies' tours set to take place in October, November and December. While no official reason has been given for the changes, the announcement comes after concerns were raised about pollution levels in Delhi in November, when South Africa were scheduled to play a Test match there. Delhi will now play host to the second Test against the West Indies that is scheduled to start on October 14 while South Africa's first Test will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata from November 14 to 18. Kolkata was initially scheduled to host the second West Indies Test. According to PTI, BCCI's Cricket Operations team collated the AQI data over the past few years and decided that venue swap is a viable option. While venues have been changed, the dates for the season remain the same. India's home season starts with two Tests against West Indies, starting October 2 in Ahmedabad, followed by the Delhi Test. They then play a full three format series against South Africa starting with two Tests, followed by three ODIs and five T20 Internationals across various Indian venues. While Kolkata hosts the opening Test, Guwahati's Barsapara Stadium will host a red ball international for the first time with the second match scheduled to be played there from November 22 to 26. The ODIs will be held at Ranchi (November 30), Raipur (December 3) and Visakhapatnam (December 6). The five T20Is will be held at Cuttack (December 9), New Chandigarh (December 11), Dharamsala (December 14), Lucknow (December 17) and Ahmedabad (December 19). The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) had earlier expressed ts inability to host the women's ODI series against Australia starting September 14 at the Chepauk Stadium. The first two matches of will now be played in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) and the third match in New Delhi. The series serves as a pre-cursor to the 50-over World Cup which will be hosted by India starting September 30.
