Meghan Markle's 'outrageous list of demands' that led to her 'falling out with Vogue editor'

Daily Record26-05-2025

Meghan Markle was reportedly set to appear on the cover of British Vogue's September 2022 issue - but a string of alleged demands meant she fell out with the then-editor, Edward Enninful
Meghan Markle's purported extravagant requests have reportedly caused a rift with a notable friend – costing her a coveted spot on the iconic Vogue front cover.
Allegations have surfaced claiming that the Duchess of Sussex exerted immense pressure on Edward Enninful, then-editor of Vogue UK, over a potential feature in the prestigious September 2022 UK Vogue issue, leading to a disagreement between them.

It is said Meghan, 43, had been collaborating with Edward on a piece for the esteemed fashion publication, which was to include her speech at the One Young World Summit in Manchester and "involved extensive features across the magazine and its digital editions".

However, the duchess, who has allegedly been labelled 'Duchess Difficult' by her US staff, supposedly insisted on having the global cover of Vogue - securing front-page spots on both US and UK editions simultaneously - even reaching out to Anna Wintour to try to sway her decision.
She purportedly pestered Enninful with six stipulations, according to an insider talking to Page Six, reports the Mirror.
"Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue," they disclosed. "Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé."
Despite this, Evangelista was already slated for the September 2022 cover, and it is believed that Enninful remained firm on featuring her.
This stance is reported to have led Meghan to cancel the planned collaboration, culminating in their falling out, as per the source's claim to the publication.

It is reported that she insisted on a call with US Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the real-life inspiration for the film The Devil Wears Prada. In a scheduled Zoom conversation, she is understood to have tried to convince Anna to consider her ideas.
However, it seems Anna had already committed to Serena Williams - one of Netflix star Meghan's closes A-list friends who attended her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry - as the cover star for that edition and reportedly declined Meghan's proposals in a courteous manner.

"Anna wasn't interested," divulged an inside source. "Meghan asked for a Zoom with her to reconsider, and Anna did it to be polite."
Enninful had invited Meghan to front the Forces for Change issue in 2019, but she opted to guest-edit the publication instead. Adele remains the sole celebrity to grace both the UK and US Vogue covers simultaneously, in November 2021.

According to information obtained by the Daily Mail, Enninful was left "furious" after Meghan decided against participating when she wasn't offered the British Vogue cover feature.
"The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations," shared one insider.
"He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month. Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Condé Nast."

The source added: "The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online - but she turned it down."
The insider also suggested that Meghan and Enninful, who parted ways with the magazine in February, are no longer in communication. However, according to Page Six's source, they still maintain a "warm and respectful" rapport, often sending each other birthday greetings and flowers despite their disagreement.

Meghan has reportedly fallen out with several of her friends and family in the years since her first blind date with Harry in 2016. Their fractured relationship with Meghan's in-laws, King Charles and Queen Camilla, has been widely reported, while the couple haven't spoken to Harry's brother Prince William or his wife Kate Middleton in years.
Additionally, it is believed that Meghan's friendship with Jessica Mulroney - whose children took part in the royal wedding - began to unravel when Mulroney faced criticism for her remarks on white privilege during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.
And there have been claims of tension between Meghan and tennis champion Serena Williams when the two were spotted having lunch together in March, prior to the launch of Meghan's new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

Meghan told of the difficulties of building her firm and 'how many tears' she has shed behind the scenes, on a bonus episode of her podcast featuring Beyonce's mother Tina Knowles. The duchess said of the April launch of her As Ever products including jam and herbal tea that the 'scarcity mentality at the beginning might be a hook for people', comparing it to 'a sneaker drop'. But she feared it might be 'annoying' for customers, adding: 'I don't want you to eat that jam once every six months. I want that to be on your shelf all the time.' Meghan said: 'So for me at the moment, with As Ever, it was great. We planned for a year we get and then everything sells out in 45 minutes. 'Yes, amazing, great news. Then what do you do? And then you say 'Ok, we planned as best as we could. Are we going to replenish and sell out again in an hour? Or is that annoying as a customer? 'I'm looking at it saying 'Just pause. That happened. Let's wait until we are completely stable and we have everything we need'.' She added how people 'see all the flashy stuff and they see the product. But that end game… those behind the scenes moments, how many tears I've shed'. Beyonce and Meghan hug at the Lion King premiere (Niklas Halle'n/PA Meghan replied: 'That is a testament. I mean, even on Suits, I was on Suits for seven years, and I remember so many other actresses, especially if you're in that grind, they said 'You are going to fry your hair', and everyone was recommending that I should start wearing wigs. 'I never ended up doing it. By the way, if I was in that industry longer, I understand why you need to protect your hair in that way.' The pair also discussed mutual friend Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry, who gave the Sussexes use of his LA home as a base when they first moved to the US in 2020, with Knowles saying: 'Tyler talks about you all… He loves you.' Meghan described him as 'the most extraordinary soundboard'. The duchess said she 'loved seeing Yvette there' – seemingly referring to Beyonce's publicist Yvette Noel-Schure – and said: 'I wrote her a letter after I went to B's concert a couple of years ago. She said the kindest things and I just wanted her to know how much it meant to me.' The podcast was recorded before Harry and Meghan had a night out at Beyonce's Cowboy Carter tour, with Knowles describing how the star was 'on fire' and telling Meghan 'Y'all gotta come'. Meghan, who said she had been trying to decide which date to attend, replied: 'Oh my gosh. I can't wait.' Last month, the duchess shared pictures of herself and Harry at one of the shows in LA, writing on Instagram: 'About last night… Thank you @beyonce and team for an amazing concert (and a very fun date night)! All love.' Meghan first publicly met Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z in London at the premiere of Disney's 2019 remake of The Lion King, which featured the singer's music and her voice as the character Nala. In the Sussexes' Netflix documentary, Meghan was shown reading a message from Beyonce which praised the duchess's 'bravery and vulnerability' and told her she 'was selected to break generational curses that need to be healed'.
