Ryder Cup to return to Spain in 2031
The news was announced by the European Tour Group on Tuesday.

It will only be the fourth time the tournament will have been played in continental Europe after Paris (2018) and Rome (2023) followed Valderrama as hosts.
This year's Ryder Cup takes place at Bethpage Black in New York in September. Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland will be the venue in 2027 and Hazeltine, near Minnesota in 2029.
Guy Kinnings, chief executive of the European Tour Group, said: 'Today's announcement not only recognises Camiral as one of Europe's leading venues, but also the considerable contribution Spanish golf has made to the proud history of the Ryder Cup.
'The Ryder Cup has grown significantly since Spain last hosted it in 1997. It is one of the world's leading sporting events, which brings significant economic benefits and global exposure to a host region and country, so we could not be happier to be taking it to Costa Brava and Barcelona for the first time, and to Spain for the second time.'
Eleven Spaniards have represented Europe throughout the competition's history and Seve Ballesteros famously captained the team to victory over the United States at Valderrama.

Camiral, which is close to Girona and around an hour's travel from Barcelona, has also been confirmed as the host of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship on the DP World Tour from 2028-30.
Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, president of Spain's national sports council, said: 'The Government of Spain welcomes the selection of Camiral as the host venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup – a global sporting event that will showcase our country to millions of viewers around the world.
'The Ryder Cup is not only one of the most prestigious competitions on the international sporting calendar, but also an exceptional platform to demonstrate Spain's ability to successfully host major 21st-century events, combining world-class infrastructure, unparalleled natural environment and a globally renowned tourism, cultural and culinary offering.'
Juan Guerrero-Burgos, president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, said: 'It is an honour for Spain to host the Ryder Cup for the second time in history.
'The previous experience at Valderrama in 1997 was extraordinary. The economic impact, media coverage and more importantly, the legacy to our sport, tourism and awareness of golf in our country were unbelievable.'

The England specialist changed her run during her penalty celebration to get past the goalkeeper she had just beaten." It comes after Kelly made a b-line for the England supporters in the corner, but that was described as "cocky" and uncalled-for. Kelly came off the bench for the Euros final and produced some historic contributions. Before scoring her penalty she assisted Alessia Russo's 57th-minute equaliser that cancelled out Mariona Caldentey's opener for Spain. Kelly had missed a penalty in the semi-final win over Italy, scoring the rebound, and was adamant history wouldn't repeat itself. She said: "I was adamant I wasn't missing two on the bounce. I was cool, I was composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. I don't miss penalties twice." The 27-year-old feared her England hopes were disappearing as she struggled for form and minutes whilst at Manchester City. Kelly eventually signed for Arsenal on loan in January, and made her move permanent in July, which saw her get back to her best and land some career milestones. "If that's a story to tell someone maybe experiencing something the same - tough times don't last," she said. "Just around the corner was a Champions League final, won that, and now a Euros final, won that." Kelly hailed the influence of her manager, Sarina Wiegman, as she said: "She gave me hope when I probably didn't have any. She gave me an opportunity to represent my country again." Ex-Rangers coach reflects on ‘amazing' return to club as he's spotted back at Ibrox for first time since sacking

Russell Martin's side welcomed English Championship outfit Middlesbrough to Govan for their final friendly clash of the summer. The Gers boss was able to give a number of squad players minutes but they failed to really stake a claim as they fell 2-0 down. Goals from Danilo and Findlay Curtis levelled things up as the entertaining clash finished 2-2. It's a new era for Boro too with Rob Edwards now in charge. The former Luton boss, whose name was linked to the Rangers vacancy at one point in time, has replaced Michael Carrick as boss. Alongside Edwards in the dugout at Ibrox on Saturday was a familiar face. Harry Watling previously worked as first team coach at Rangers and is now an assistant at Boro. Watling, 35, was a key part of Michael Beale's staff at the Light Blues during his rather ill-fated spell as boss. He'd previously worked with him at QPR. Russell Martin opens up after he got sent off by John Beaton in pre-season friendly vs 'Boro When Beale was sacked as manager in October 2023, his entire coaching staff was also dismissed, including Watling. That decision came after a horror start to the 2023/24 season. After leaving Ibrox, Watling landed the managerial role at Ebbsfleet United in September in 2024 but departed after only three months after one win in 13. He returned to football last month when he landed the key role alongside Edwards at Boro. Saturday's friendly clash offered Watling the first chance to return to Ibrox since his dismissal. And it's fair to say he enjoyed it. On Instagram, Watling said: "It was amazing to go back to Ibrox for the first time again yesterday. "A huge shout-out to the 8,000 @theboroofficial fans who made it electric. "So nice to see some old faces too from staff to players. "Thank you to everyone for making it such a warm welcome back. "Excited to begin another huge season." Middlesbrough face local rivals Hartlepool away from home in a friendly this Wednesday before taking on Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna at home on Saturday. The real stuff starts for them the following weekend with a home clash against Swansea to open the Championship season. For Rangers, the real stuff has of course already started. The Gers head to Athens to take on Panathinaikos in the second leg of their Champions League second round qualifier on Wednesday.
