Kerby Joseph lands in top 75 of NFL Players list

USA Today2 days ago
As the NFL continues its unveiling of the Top 100 Players of 2025, one of the best safeties in the league had his name revealed Friday.
Lions safety Kerby Joseph, who is already getting accolades as one of the best safeties by media, coaches and scouts, earned his flowers from his peers, appearing on the list at No. 71.
Joseph, who signed a four-year, $86 million contract extension this offseason, led the league with nine interceptions in 2024, earning All-Pro honors. The contract extension made him the highest-paid safety in the NFL, based on the average value of his extension at $21.5 million. The previous high was $21.025 million per year for Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr.
Joseph was not ranked in the top 100 last season. He is the second Lion to appear on the list. Tight end Sam LaPorta came in at No. 94. Joseph is also the second safety revealed thus far. At No. 92 was Atlanta Falcons safety Jessie Bates.

49ers' Jauan Jennings gets trade update during contract dispute

The 49ers can't afford to lose another wide receiver. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported last week that Jennings, who is in the final year of his contract, wants an extension or to move on to a new team. As training camp gets started it appears San Francisco will be keeping the wide receiver around. Vic Tafur of The Athletic reported that a Jennings trade is "unlikely" according to a league source. There's a couple reasons for this. The first, and most important, is that the 49ers' wide receiver situation is one of the worst in the league. Brandon Aiyuk just received his new contract but suffered a torn MCL and ACL in October that's put his status in jeopardy to start the season. Deebo Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders. Second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall is recovering from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him to start training camp. That leaves Jennings, who led all 49ers' receivers with a career-high 77 catches, 975 yards, and six touchdowns last year. He appears to have some leverage with the lack of wide receivers available but the 49ers don't have the capital to give him a massive extension. After handing out big contracts to Aiyuk and Brock Purdy, San Francisco has had to cut key players to make the money work. So with no plans to trade him and a lack of financial flexibility, where does that leave John Lynch and the 49ers' front office? Could a player of Jennings' caliber warrant a holdout during training camp? It's drama that San Francisco was hoping to avoid after dealing with Aiyuk's holdout last offseason. Unfortunately for them, it's as tumultuous as it was a year ago. MORE: Seahawks make NFL history with rookie contract to build new 'Legion of Boom' under Mike MacDonald

2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: P Blake Gillikin

The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team. Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook. Next up is punter Blake Gillikin. Blake Gillikin background, 2024 season Gillikin enters his sixth NFL season and third with the Cardinals. He was a rookie free agent in 2020 out of Penn State and signed with the New Orleans Saints. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve and then was their punter for the next two seasons. In 2023, he did not make the Saints' roster out of camp and was released. He signed with the Cardinals in October after Nolan Cooney, who had won the job out of camp, beating out Matt Haack in training camp, struggled to start the season. Gillikin punted the final 13 games, averaging a franchise-record 50.6 yards per punt. He re-signed in the offseason on a two-year deal. Last season, he punted in the first 13 games before injuring his ankle, which sent him to injured reserve and ended his season. He averaged 49.7 yards per kick with a career-high 44.2-yard net average and only one touchback. Nineteen of his punts (50%) were downed inside the 20-yard line, the highest rate of his career. Blake Gillikin 2025 contract details, cap hit He is in the final year of the two-year, $3.7 million deal he signed in 2024. In 2025, he will make $1.8 million in salary with no guarantees. His cap hit will be $2.1 million. Questions he faces, roster outlook He has been both very good and very consistent for the Cardinals since he signed in 2023. He punted better each year. Can he maintain that, and will that ankle injury linger? As for the roster, the Cardinals didn't bring in any other punters to compete in the offseason, so the job is his, unless things go sideways. The punter's job is never 100% secure. But as long as he continues to play at the level he has, he has a spot on the roster and could earn a contract extension. 2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: K Chad Ryland

We will preview every player on the Cardinals roster leading up to training camp. This is about K Chad Ryland. Next up is kicker Chad Ryland. Chad Ryland background, 2024 season Ryland enters his third NFL season and second with the Cardinals. He was drafted in the fourth round in 2023 by the New England Patriots, but he struggled as a rookie, making only 16-of-25 field goals. He was cut after the 2024 preseason and and was unsigned until the Cardinals added him to the practice squad when Matt Prater injured his knee. He ended up finishing the year as the Cardinals' kicker, showing leg strength, accuracy and the ability make big kicks, as he made game-winning field goals in the final two minutes in three games of a four-game stretch. He finished the season making 28-of-32 field goals (87.5%) and 26-of-27 extra points. Chad Ryland 2025 contract details, cap hit When Ryland was signed from the practice squad, he signed a deal through 2025. He will make $1.03 million in salary and that will be his cap hit. After the season, he will be a restricted free agent. Questions he faces, roster outlook The Cardinals did not bring in any other kicker to compete with him this offseason, so his job is as secure as it can be for the moment. Considering his uneven rookie season, the question will be whether or not he can maintain the consistency he had in 2024. He is a lock to be the Cardinals' kicker, at least until he isn't. Especially with no guarantees in his contract, he could be easily replaced if things go sideways.
