Karnataka: Lokayukta raids Gadag Police Inspector's properties
Gadag (Karnataka) [India], June 24 (ANI): Lokayukta officials conducted extensive raids on seven properties linked to a DB Patil Circle Police Inspector (CPI) of Gadag Town Police Station, following allegations of acquiring assets disproportionate to his known income.
The operation, led by Lokayukta CPI Parashuram Kavatagi, targeted locations in Gadag, Bagalkot, Jamkhandi, and Kerur.
According to Lokayukta officials, the operation was part of an investigation into complaints of disproportionate assets and potential misuse of official position. A team of Lokayukta officials, led by CPI Parashuram Kavatagi and supervised by DySP Pushpalatha and officer P S Patil, meticulously examined documents, cash holdings, and property records during the raid.
Inch-by-inch inspections were conducted to identify any unaccounted wealth or financial irregularities. Authorities confirmed that the operation was based on credible inputs regarding suspicious asset accumulation by the officer.
In a related action, Lokayukta officials also raided the residence of an Assistant Government Officer (AGO) in Shivamogga. The officer was booked under Shivamogga Crime No. 9/25. His premises were similarly searched for evidence of disproportionate assets.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Karnataka Lokayukta conducted raids at several locations across the state, including offices of BBMP, Chikkamagaluru Town Municipality, and Anekal Town Municipality.
The locations being raided are in Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Anekal, Gadag, Dharwad and Kalaburagi.
According to officials, the raids targeted the Assistant Engineer at BBMP Govindrajnagar; the associate Research Director of organic Farming; the accounts Officer at the town Municipality, Anekal; the chief officer at the town municipality, the Town Police Inspector at Gadag; the engineer at the Malaprabha Project in Dharwad; the former Engineer at RDPR, Kalburgi and PDO, Kalburgi.
A raid was also conducted at the residence of the Chief Engineer, Belagavi.

Those who did this are from the TMC. We are CPI(M) supporters. My whole family votes for the CPI(M).' The incident sparked widespread outrage, with all major Opposition parties accusing chief minister Mamata Banerjee's party of fostering a culture of violence. The CPI(M) was quick to allege political motive, claiming that the victim's family had links to one of its party workers. At a media conference, he presented detailed polling data from Kaliganj to support his claim. According to Adhikari, Kaliganj has approximately 110,000 Hindu voters, of which 66 per cent—or 72,600—cast their votes. The BJP, he said, received 52,710 of these votes, implying the party had secured a remarkable 72.6 per cent of the total Hindu votes noted that out of the 106 Hindu-majority booths in Kaliganj, the BJP had won in 105. In these booths, 60,175 votes were cast, with the BJP receiving 39,213. 'This is surely a beginning. What the Hindus of Kaliganj have done is exceptional. If a similar Hindu consolidation can be engineered in 2026 [assembly polls], TMC candidates can be defeated in at least 220 (of the total 294) seats,' he TMC rubbished Adhikari's claims. In multiple statements, the party claimed Hindu voters accounted for 42-44 per cent of Kaliganj's population, which did not take the number to around 110,000. "Quicker the ceasefire is done, the better it is," says J-K CM Omar Abdullah on Israel-Iran ceasefire
Gulmarg (Jammu and Kashmir), [India], June 24 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that 'the quicker the ceasefire is done, the better it is,' after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Abdullah expressed relief over the move, highlighting the heavy destruction caused during the 11-day conflict. He also expressed concern for Indian students stranded due to the crisis and hoped their evacuation would be completed soon. Speaking to the reporters, Omar Abdullah said, 'The quicker the ceasefire is done, the better it is. It has been 11 days. There has been massive destruction in these 11 days. We would want the ceasefire to come into effect at the earliest, and it continues to be in effect. A major cause of concern for us was that our students had to be brought back. Flights faced difficulties because the airspace was shut. But we hope that a large batch of students would come back today, and perhaps after that the evacuation process would be complete.' The conflict between Israel and Iran started on June 13 when the former launched a massive airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear sites, codenamed 'Operation Rising Lion'. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) initiated a large-scale drone and missile campaign called 'Operation True Promise 3', targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centres. Tensions escalated further after the US conducted precision airstrikes early Sunday morning on three key Iranian nuclear facilities under 'Operation Midnight Hammer.' Iran retaliated by launching multiple missiles at US military installations in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar--the largest US military base in the region. Abdullah further added that there was no local involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. He said all the attackers were from outside, and two locals arrested by the NIA were possibly forced to help them. He added that the investigation is ongoing and a chargesheet will be filed soon. 'The biggest thing is that there was no local involvement. Those who shot bullets and killed 26 people were all from outside. Now, under an investigation by the NIA, two people have been arrested who helped these people. NIA has perhaps also said that these people were forced to help. They provided food and other things, but they were forced to do so. Let the investigation go on. NIA will then file a chargesheet,' Abdullah added. Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had gathered a substantial body of evidence regarding the identities of terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack case, stated a release. The evidence gathered includes eyewitness accounts from victims, video footage, technical evidence, and sketches released by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Maoist carrying bounty of Rs 5 lakh arrested in Jharkhand's Gumla
GUMLA: A Maoist, carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, was arrested in Jharkhand's Gumla district, police said on Tuesday. Identified as Firoz Ansari, he was a sub-zonal commander of Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of CPI (Maoist), police added. Gumla SP Haris Bin Zaman said a rifle, around 350 live cartridges, three smartphones and a bag were recovered from his possession. "We received specific intelligence that JJMP chief Ravindra Yadav was moving with his squad in the forests of Ghaghra village under Bihsunpur police station limits. Based on this, a team was formed and dispatched to the area," he said. Upon seeing the security forces, the JJMP members attempted to flee. "One person was caught while trying to escape. During interrogation, he identified himself as Firoz Ansari, sub-zonal commander of JJMP," the SP added. Ansari was wanted in 11 criminal cases lodged across multiple districts, including Latehar, Lohardaga, and Gumla, police said.
