The inconsistency of the pass rush in Atlanta has been the butt of jokes for awhile now, but CBS Sports predicts that to change with one rookie winning DPOY.

The Falcons had the second-fewest sacks in the NFL last year and have been inconsistent at putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks since John Abraham patrolled the edge. I'm sorry, Vic Beasley, but stats do not lie.

CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso named rookie edge rusher James Pearce Jr. his pick to win Defensive Rookie of the Year honors at season's end. Atlanta would listen to the fans this year and be aggressive in finding that next great edge rusher to wreak havoc on opposing QBs.
The team traded back into the first round to snag Pearce Jr. after drafting Jalon Walker with the 15th pick. Some fans and officials think that Atlanta may have given up too much to get back into the first round to draft Pearce Jr, but they wanted another dynamic rusher to set the tone for the offseason in addressing pressing needs. They would give up a 2026 first-round selection in doing so.

According to PFF, Atlanta would also finish third worst in pass-rushing defense. With the glaring needs on the defensive side of the football, Chris Trapasso was very high on Pearce Jr. coming into this year's draft.
"With Pearce as my No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 class, I'm not backing away from that before any games are played,' said Trapasso of CBS Sports. 'Pearce is a sizable, athletic, refined, and deceptively powerful outside rusher who demolished the SEC the past two seasons with a cumulative pressure rate over 21%. I've written that statistic like 50 times the past four months, and I'm still astonished by it.'
'His situation in Atlanta couldn't be more conducive to DROY hype,' Trapasso said. 'Atlanta has finished 32nd in sacks twice (2015, 2021) and 31st a ridiculous five times (2013, 2014, 2019, 2022, and 2024) over the past decade. Any uptick in team pass-rushing production will be viewed as a ginormous win for the Falcons.'

Yet he's participated in practices through OTAs and attended mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. He told reporters that he wants to stay with the team long term. Last offseason, Miller underwent shoulder surgery and needed time to work his way into form. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed five sacks in the first two weeks of the regular season but only gave up two more for the remainder of the campaign. Even without any All-Pro or Pro Bowl accolades, Miller is a quality left tackle, and the Raiders should reward him with a new deal. Advertisement Currently the 13th highest-paid left tackle set to make $18 million this year, he could command over $22 million annually with at least $50 million in guarantees. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images After Davante Adams took an escape route out of Las Vegas, Jakobi Meyers took over the lead wideout role to complement rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who led the team in most receiving categories last season. He caught 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. Still the lead playmaker in a relatively young receiver room, Meyers is an underpaid lead wideout. Set to make $11 million this year, he's 29th among wide receivers in annual salary. During OTAs, Meyers chose to keep contract talks between himself and the organization. Advertisement 'Yeah, I want to be here, for sure,' he said to reporters. 'But that's all I could really say on it right now. That's business between us and the top floor. So, I'm just going to hold that one down for now.' Meyers' contract situation should be a priority in Las Vegas. He has no guaranteed money in the final year of his deal. He could command $15-20 million annually following his most productive campaign. Kicker Daniel Carlson Daniel Carlson may celebrate a new deal with fellow special-teams player AJ Cole if the Raiders want to pay their kicker before he enters free agency in 2026. In a contract year, Carlson can force the conversation with a holdout to speed up the process. Advertisement Carlson's conversion rate on field goals has declined since he made 94.3 percent of his attempts in 2020. Despite that, Las Vegas Review-Journal's Vincent Bonsignore believes Carlson could be in line for an extension. In 2024, Carlson converted on 85 percent of his field goals, though four of his six misses were from 50-plus yards. Based on that context, the Raiders may believe that his conversion rate will trend in the right direction with an offense that can move the ball more efficiently than their recent units.
